Visual Summary Of Today's Ludicrous Action And 7 Sigma Move In Crude
If anyone is alive after today's utterly insane trading action, congratulations. The volatility lull of the past 6 months is now over: swaption traders rejoice.
And here is what a 7 Sigma move in Crude looks like (red is +4 std devs; green is -3 std devs):

I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.
Quitter
The good old days when men were men and glue was cheap and readily available.
Gut laugh!
This movie was actually on last night. I flipped past just in time to see this very image. Uncanny.
nobody likes a quitter
now BTFD
YFI
after today I am going back on the stuff
mammon worship
Every thing's back to normal folks. Move along, nothing to see here.

appropriate yes?
Very specific.
(Note to self... add "end of world" day into my outlook calendar).
I believe the end of the world already happened around Aug 1981, but it wasn't such a big deal after all.
Yes, you are right, I noticed it and kept moving.
<HELP> for explanation
was that when the 401k programs started for the middle class or was that in 1982 ?
Xkwisetly and panefully obvious.
Where is Joe Granville these days anyway?
All I see are a bunch of squiggly lines.
(obligatory)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fn7-JZq0Yxs&playnext=1&list=PL0922E432350...
They don't seem as squiggly if you turn it 90 degrees counterclockwise.
They look better after a glass of Jack Daniels and some smoke.
Just Ms. Masters shaking off the week hands...
Are you implying that is somehow abnormal?
Your Crude chart is inverted. Tough day.. Nothing is easy.
So is silver.
tyler, just to let you know, i am still alive after todays trading action. just sayin'†
insane action? isnt this what you have been predicting? banks vs bugs fighting out?
I bought ZSL at the open, sold it at the close. Then bought AGQ and FAZ at the close.
+10% today (first up day in a while)
non-linear is where its at bitches!
You know PorShares had rev splits, right?
I can't freaking believe I missed that info. Thanks for the heads up.
yes, I noticed TZA went from 14 to 42 or something.... all these 3x etfs are really trading at around .01 pre-splits, but if u understand them, its a great vehicle for gambling w your IRAs

Same applies for ginger... thought I'd help out the sick gf with some ginger tea and digital manipulation........ law of unintended consequences, indeed
I got all three, am I in the right place?.... whats the cayenne for?
cayenne Porsche yuppy car, probably!
I dont have that.... dang! Guess I'll console myself with the other two.
Oil taking a breather,
"Market" little "up"!
Gold still little "up",
Sliver one on the Chin and counting!
Gold, soon to follow,
Oil going higher,
"Market" going lower, much lower!
Nothing really fancy here, just a "normal & it's so different" day, eh?!
Yep, major ugly correction, and then to the Moon.
36,000-40,000 by 2015.
Judging by the continued dollar weakness, there typically needs to be confidence in greenbacks for a market crash - until then the confidence will preside with the private sector assets ......unless we see a flight to gold and silver as the safety dance.

Today we saw one of the first battles between reality, fundamentals and Mr. Market vs Fed,Primary Dealer manipulation. This was evident by the point swings intra-minute that were volatile.
In the end the Ponzi masters had to resort to the only arrow in their quiver aside from free money and fraudulent accounting and that is LIES.
1. Bullard discussing QE3
2. Gadafi Rumor
and finally the manipulation via margin hikes in oil. It shows definitively they are losing. If this continues to drag on and the market loses 10% this all vaporizes the hard work and free cash pomo bonanza done by Ben in the past year and makes the manipulation and churning upwards more and more expensive. It proves they are eventually going to lose the war vs the market.
Every single day Ben hands free money to the banks and the economy does not recover the Fed loses credibility and valuable time at maintaining the status quo. More importantly 2012 is coming and in 9 months it is mud slinging time and full blown campaign mode..if the Dow does not recover all of those points (which the elites can pretend is because of Obama) then the election will not even be close.

Mark my words, oil will cease to be freely traded (if NYMEX, ICE etc can be called as such) within 4 years if not sooner.
...and don't forget Propaganda.
How's this from Bloomberg today:
Geithner Butt of Jokes No More as Obama's Money Man Now on Top of Economyhttp://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-02-24/geithner-butt-of-jokes-no-more-as-obama-s-money-man-now-on-top-of-economy.html
I know I sure feel better now.
the crones lunching, the back slapping self-congratulation, the delusions about the economy and all dripping in snake oil... another great Bloomberg art*piece of shit*icle
I read that too. Bloomberg writer fellates Geithner.
Capital spent on media is more influential than even political capital. They buy the medium and try to win the war for your opinion. Anyone worth leading is capable of changing their mind and opinion if presented with the proper facts regardless of their theology. No words have ever been more truly spoken that that of Churchill when he said:
" A Fanatic is someone who will not change their mind nor the subject"
The true danger is the people who know the facts and work against them for their own purposes using the brainwashing of the fanatics to achieve their goal or use bribery. Here in the U.S. we have such agenda.
We have the elites with their goal
The captured politicians and media anchors/producers with taking bribes to further the goals of the above.
And we have the fanatics who the media are merced out to indoctrinate to do the heavy lifting of the elites. In the end it only comes down to following the money and influence. If most in power were sworn to uphold economic and personal liberty people would be fanatical about the one thing in a civilized society they should be...and that is fanatical about freedoms for those who live within the "State of Nature".
I am sometimes haunted by Oscar Wilde's remark: "The worst vice of the fanatic is his sincerity."
Thanks for that one..i've never heard that.
I like the silver miners :)
http://thehardrightedge.com/miningequities/
Oil is going to 150$ then 200$ ....
please tell me there is a 3 X inverse silver miners ETF. im buying!
FAS. Have at it.

HA! SOOOOOOOOOOOO True..
I am as bullish on oil as anyone....the world economy crashes before we hit $150 (for an extended period). We are already in the trouble zone... Be very wary.
talk about a game with moving finish lines!
Why did silver get creamed?
See response above yours - all these markets are grossly manipulated. Yeah, hard to argue with that.
All these markets are grossly manipulated! It SUCKS!
Silver looks like it took a hit on possible hedge fund liquidation [excessive borrowing on margin] and also risk of further margin hikes..
+1 liquidity crunch
Why did silver get creamed?
There's an easy answer. Last time ZH posted the backwardation Silver did a ditto--it initially got nailed.
Ditto this time.
So, next time ZH posts "record backwardation" go short with JPM and Blythe. Then long. Simple. They needed to take it down to give the appearance there is no shortage. But it's really a game these scumsuckers can't win, which makes the whole circus amusing to say the least.
They are not hurting anyone in it for the long haul, we WIN in the end, all this will do is cause more physical hoarding.
As ong as you do not SELL, you have lost NOTHING.
Our day is coming, soon.
Maybe! But instead of a day you may only be alloted 15 minutes. At least that is what a famous artiste once said.
Sell? Hell, I backed up the truck. Picked up more shares of my fav silver miners a 8 - 10% off.
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST
INSANE DAY
Do you trade in actual dudes in London? Are they certified London Dudes? Or do you make a market, and other folks trade Dudes? Can I buy a Dude on margin? Is there a danger of the ICE changing the margin requirements? I've always wanted to know ever since I first saw your screen name.
Thought I would add to your insanity, or at least make you laugh.
Good luck.
I ain't in it, so I don't have to spin it.
Thanks, ROFLMAO!
Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana!
<HELP> for explanation
I tried. No explanation popped up.
Just an insane day.
I took a couple on the chin, but I like crazy vol :D
All these markets are grossly manipulated! It SUCKS
Righty-O. That is why you need to take delivery. It will all end badly and no one, per custom, will be on the hook for it.
JPM is shitting on the constitution and our forefathers.
Who needs arguably ill defined manipulation when you can just change the rules on the fly. Hold'em? Sorry sir, we changed the game to low ball after the last card. The longs didn't have weak hands. The game was changed in mid play. These people make Vegas look downright honorable.
Indeed eblair. I've been trying to get ZH to take up a new addition to the accroynm family here: TJCTFR. They'll just change the fucking rules...
Until there's a black market naturally.
Your project is a worthy one. CTFR may be a better one just because it is shorter.
----
Out raged gold bug: Why did the price of Gold just drop?
6 String: Cause they CTFR.
----
Doomer: I'm out of these markets, fuck it.
Trader: Why?
Doomer: Because if you are TBTF they will CTFR instead of letting a TBTF take a loss. I wanted to BTFD but they canceled all the trades. They CTFR all the damn time.
LULZ Ms C
WTF--TPTB can KMA. WWJD?
Answer: BTFD
Just keep your eyes on the $$. Its approaching code red levels. When it goes below 74, I will be going away.
can you afford a foreign holiday on a weak Dollar, you must be minted???
One would assume he's smart enough to have converted to another one by now, or real close.
7 Sigma!?! OK, which dip am I supposed to friggin' buy?
I smell rats - several big oily ones. Remember on 10 FEB, there was a rumor that King Abdullah dropped dead of a heart attack after getting off the phone with Obobo? This sent oil skyrocketing. There was hardly any mention on the news Wednesday when he he arrived back in Saudi Arabia from Morocco. Now, there is some rumor that Q-Daffy just got shot? It is fun to watch the herd move, but this is getting rediculous!
Is this really going to affect the open interest at the COMEX? Won't it make it easier for others to come in? I am not seeing how this directly helps them with their March delivery problem.
It's getting too easy to spread false rumors, what with twitter and the likes
"...war and rumors of war."
Timmy Geithner said the Fed know how to handle rising crude prices.
BINGO! We have a winner!
Tim Geithner can say as much or little as he wants.
FACT. Lybian oil production is DEAD today, tomorrow and next few weeks.
FACT. Lybias oil reserves and exploration is DEAD for the time being.
FACT. Even the Saudis can't just open a flood gate and their ports facilitate 1.5 million BPD overnight!
FACT. More pain to come!
The Saudis can smooth things out a bit, they do have an equivalent of an SPR. Part of their past claims of ramping up to 12.5 mmbpd for limited time is drawing down on their tank farms....
Sure, but the Saudis aren't stupid to sell the last oil they have for $96 when they can get $116 or more!
that's the man who submitted a fiscally insolvent budget right?
...now a 'plan' to solve high oil prices... senile dementia has hit Timmy early in life!
It's all Charlie Sheen's fault.
Now, Horatio has found the crux of the bisquit, methinks.
im pressing '<HELP> for explanation' on top screen and nothing is working..im still friggin confused!!
Pressing help is not such a good idea if you are not paying for it, just be grateful for their effort.
Tell us what u r confused about and someone may be able to help you.
Bring on the silver tankage. I'll take a pallet... or two.
I'm thinking about renting a pickup truck or two for $10 silver.
Oats, cotten, silver, and lumber are all green tomorrow. Bank it.
Buy the crater!
Buy a large fuel tank or 2 and store DIESEL.
Diesel has longer shelf life than gasoline.
are we preparing to BTFD or an asteroid attack?
Sounds like prepping for BTFD to me.
If you want to prepare for an "asteroid attack" (I like to call them unexpected meteoritic presence), you need to listen to Dr. Strangelove. Get yourself the deepest mineshaft you can find, a nuclear reactor (better yet, several) and all the nubile women you can get your hands on. A couple thousand books to read to pass the time might be useful.
I like your "unexpected meteoritic presence".
So, a LARGE asteroid would be a "L.U.M.P.", right?
That would make a BIG one a "B.U.M.P."?
Hope we never get the "M.U.M.P."s ("MASSIVE").
LOL. Brilliant Max.
Buy the ashes!!!!!
BTW I just watched the original Mad Max last night with the kids who had never seen it before.
A well managed market is conducive to maximum bonuses.
Hmm, wonder if this changes things for the march delivery? I'm going to guess no on that one. What is scary is if she can take this thing under 30, see how much physical comes off the shelf then. Good luck with that blythe.
Where's Robo?
DIS, WFMI, JWN, GE, UNP all found nice support when the dollar failed as a risk asset.
This makes a casino seem tame.
Wait until the riots hit Saudi Arabia. Only then will the real fun begin in the oil pits. Go long now while it's still [relatively] cheap...
my sentiments exactly!
the Saud King supposedly throws 36 bln $$ onto his people to keep them quiet.
now the Saudi King needs a higher oil price to make up for it.
King Abdullah will just pass it on to the consumer!
the price of freedom in the world..

Got it. Thanks.
Today was proof positive that the PigMen and the Washington Plutocrats can move any commodity at will, via:
- Paper shorting (thanks to Infinite Fiat)
- Rumor-mongering via Twitter and Facebook (thanks to Web 2.0)
- Chart painting (easiest trick in the book for the PigMen to fake out their largest clients)
- Increasing margin requirements over and over again
After today, there is no longer any need for a Don Coxe "Midnight Massacre" by employing dollar swaps.
All the Fed and Goldman Sachs has to do is startup a Facebook page and a Twitter account and start flooding the Internet with all kinds of fake news stories, like assasinations, new treaties signed, OPEC deciding to flood the market with newly pumped crude.
It matters not if it is true or not, the only thing that matters is how the highly leveraged speculators react to it.
It's nothing new. But it cannot go on forever.
Sad but true....for "real" commodities like oil, they can only do so for a limited time. And before anyone gets their panties in a knot, Silver could go to $500 an ounce and it wouldn't change a thing really (aside from most of us making a killing), oil is a different beast, it is bought to burn.
Just let Slvr, and Gld double from here, and I am outa here.
Gold is going to take one more DIP, and a nice one, (sans Black Swans), and then we are going to see it over $2k, before end of year.Maybe a lot more.

Good post, RobotTrader.
More victims of broken math. I doubt today's action was seven sigma wide if one were to measure what standard deviations are in the fourth day after the three we just had.
You have to be forgiving of a little hyperbole.
Some days you see clearly and get lucky. Sold UCO in 12.80s and SLW at 39.75.
Ok, the first one has me stumped. But the second one looks like a cat scan of Abe Lincoln, probably post mortem.
Can I haz prize?
This whole f'in day was boy cried wolf. You know what, I'm damned hungry and the full moon is coming, keep cryin' wolf because I'm coming to tear you to shreds and no one will come to you the next time around.

FCPG, hoes....
As my nanny and Woody Allen would say, "Sex, we never have sex....maybe 3-4 times per week".
...also, the nanny would say, "Thanks d'God!"...but mostly about the kids pooping on schedule.
I say, "Thanks d'God" for the volatility.
When there is a lot of what we call, 'wind'...well, then the tape, she is very easy to read.
When we are farting around in the doldrums...that ain't so easy.
Here's what Crude Order Flow looks like in real time....
From here, it is very easy to deduce what's coming.

Actually, you didn't pick the wrong time to quit smoking glue.
The title of this chart is wrong. Just because there is a +4 sd move on the upside and -3 to the downside (or inverted) doesn't mean it's a 7 sd move.
You have to draw out the entire 4 sd "band" and you will see that the price movements fits within it.
So no, oil did more of 3-4 sd move today (~1% or all samples or a bit less).
