Visualizing The World's Biggest IPOs

Tyler Durden's picture

The following chart courtesy of good.is shows the world's largest ever IPOs. Not surprisingly, of the top 10, the peak activity occurred in 2006, while 2010 has been the second busiest year on record so far, courtesy of AgriBank of China and Dai-Ichi of Japan. Oddly enough, Visa 2008 IPO is the only US-based company to make the top 10 IPO list, with Japan having the most representatives (3), the same China, and Italy, Germany, US and Russia all with one company in the top ten listing. Altogether the top 10 primary stock issues have amounted to $156 billion in equity capital raised. In a world in which cost of money has become negligible, this seems like an surprisingly low number.

It would be great to see the aftermarket performance of the biggest IPOs in history.  I'm sure it's underwhelming in many cases.

Off the subject, but there is an inverted H/S developing on ESU0.  If we break 1122, we could be off to the races to 1130-1132.  Have fun watching the algos flaunt their insanity.

not sure that's going to happen with the action in the 10yr yield right now

Agree.  Low probability.

probably should go 3x long here and make a ton of cash, somehow, though.

10 year yields are low? that means the forward signal-to-noise ratio of birds flying through the thermosphere is at a record high: !!!BUY EQUITIES!!!

On subject....this is in USD.  So then, ICB is about $4B?  We buy their stock, and they buy our debt.  Sounds reasonable.

OT: http://247wallst.com/2010/08/03/small-business-despairs-despite-rumors-o...

Small business confidence takes a tumble. I don't agree with the concept of more credit needed, since there is no demand.

That visual shows the tectonic shift in the world's financial axis. Follow the money eh?

Someone up there asked a good question though. Who was "in" the money one year later? That might produce the "Ouch" version of the same visual.

And no India, again very very instructive.

We've been be-fuddled into believing we are more of a capitalist nation than we really are. Still a bunch of innately animistic farmers/herders. Being led by the nose with a bright light shining in our eyes.

I guess it only follows, since China has more potential production and human capital to over-leverage without their say-so into the next century.

Solar event tomorrow, fingers crossed.

"Oddly enough, Visa 2008 IPO is the only US-based company to make the top 10"

Gee, would the regulatory landscape in the US and the myriad related hassles and expenses have anything to do with that?

"In a world in which cost of money has become negligible, this seems like an surprisingly low number."

If your business needs money and money is cheap you go and borrow some.  You don't sell equity, especially in light of the above point.

Not surprising.  SOX is the reason.

As far as I know, the 2 NTT group companies and the 3 Chinese banks were government owned business.

May be that telling us something.....

There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration.I read and understand the entire article and I really enjoyed it to be honest.
