Tyler Durden's picture

The Bernanke debate in the senate has started. Readers can watch it live on CSPAN.

The latest Bernanke tally is as follows (courtesy of Jim Bianco):

Per Dow Jones:

  • Voting “Yes”: 53 (38 Democrats, 14 Republicans, 1 Independent)
  • Voting “No”: 20 (5 Democrats, 14 Republicans, 1 Independent)
  • Officially Undecided: 21 (11 Democrats, 10 Republicans)
  • Unknown: 7 (3 Democrats, 4 Republicans)

Per Bloomberg:

  • Voting “Yes”: 51 (36 Democrats, 14 Republicans, 1 Independent)
  • Voting “No”: 22 (6 Democrats, 15 Republicans, 1 Independent)
  • Unknown/Undecided: 27 (16 Democrats, 11 Republicans)

Note Bloomberg includes Paul Kirk of MA (as a yes) and not Scott Brown.

So real liberals, that is to say socialists, recognize the damage done by a central bank.

Fascinating.  What do these real liberals propose we do instead of a central bank?

Not a liberal here, but I suggest that we return to how it was done before 1913.  The Treasury issues all currency.  If there are any libertarians reading this, I could also go for the dual currency.  Ron Paul has advocated just such a thing.  What we really don't need is the bankers' debt-money.

I think the point was, socialism fails without a central bank there to obscure the fact that the middle class must get fleeced in order for it to work. (And then it fails anyway.)

Not true. The simple idea itself that the Federal Government would be able (and should be able) to run healthcare and education. Communities organized schools effectively back in the day and would still be able to if we didn't have this "memememememememememe" mentality. Everybody needs a buck to do something (WELL almost everybody, as sad as it might be to say, only religious freaks are moral for the most part).

The town doctor did the best job possible not because of how much he got paid, but because he prided himself on taking care of people.

The school teacher didn't have to suffer having her salary cut every single time and any purchasing power inflated away.

God, this society really does need to fail.

'mememe' only survives in an artificial hothouse.

And personally cursive is close but the real bill doctrine is perfectly suitable. Just like colonial scrip.... people used fucking shells for cash back in the day, money is whatever can be traded freely and is most convenient.... however these days money is more like the god of this country, one that is empty and shallow.

Don't forget that it was Bernie Sanders who was the first to step up against Bernanke.... as pitiful as that might be, he's got it right and can't be bought out by the banks or corporations, like Kyl, like McCain, like Dodd, like Obama, like.... do I need to go on?

Wild guess; behind the scenes they are selling their vote for a promise to bail out the states, starting with Cali.

They want to get re-elected.

If we double-dip, then the arguement that "Bernanke saved us" won't hold water. The Senators are distancing themsleves.

If we truly do recover long-term, nobody will remember their no votes.

what a joke, the senators are all waiting for the confirmation to vote negative.

Republicans are making a total joke of themselves right now.

Repubs are setting up for the next election cycle. They think the Tea Baggers are going to carry them right in the front door. They might be right.

The blood is in the water now.

Both parties are a sick disgusting joke. Just two sides of the same party, the Big Government party. They will fight amongst each other for power and wealth but their goal is the same to grow the state whether it be through welfare or warfare.

77 yea, 23 nay on cloture.

Now, they will easily reconfirm him as this cloture vote bought cover for 10 more of the weasels to vote no on reappointment.

We can end the Fed anytime. We just need a plan on how we will proceed with monetary policy once it is abolished. Once again I see no consensus on how to do that. Just like I see no consensus on how to change the tax code. There are lot off good ideas and opinions but nothing concrete.

Until we do, what we have needs to stay in place.

The procedure is what we had BEFORE the Central bank concept.

Done my part.

Now, try and end the FED.

I'll wait....
