Those who want to watch US politics devolve into a complete farce, can do so below, as the president caves in to a person who has serially bankrupted more corporations than anyone else in history. In the meantime, this is what the whie house had to say on the issue. Those who wish to watch Donald Trumps' take on the matter can do so here.

In 2008, in response to media inquiries, the President’s campaign
requested his birth certificate from the state of Hawaii. The state sent
the campaign the President’s birth certificate, the same legal
documentation provided to all Hawaiians as proof of birth in state, and
the campaign immediately posted it on the internet. That birth certificate can be seen here (PDF).
When any citizen born in Hawaii requests their birth certificate, they
receive exactly what the President received. In fact, the document
posted on the campaign website is what Hawaiians use to get a driver’s
license from the state and the document recognized by the Federal
Government and the courts for all legal purposes. That’s because it is
the birth certificate. This is not and should not be an open question.
The President believed the distraction over his birth certificate
wasn’t good for the country. It may have been good politics and good TV,
but it was bad for the American people and distracting from the many
challenges we face as a country. Therefore, the President directed his
counsel to review the legal authority for seeking access to the long
form certificate and to request on that basis that the Hawaii State
Department of Health make an exception to release a copy of his long
form birth certificate. They granted that exception in part because of
the tremendous volume of requests they had been getting.
At a time of great consequence for this country – when we should be
debating how we win the future, reduce our deficit, deal with high gas
prices, and bring stability to the Middle East, Washington, DC, was once
again distracted by a fake issue. The President’s hope is that with
this step, we can move on to debating the bigger issues that matter to
the American people and the future of the country.
So the administration prevents distractions by caving in to them. What next: we see Obama's bed wetting record?

I don't have Illustrator installed, so have to take his word for it, which I'm happy to do. So opening that image in Photoshop, viewing full size... holy shit, holy shit... direct from the WH, a glaringly deliberate fake birth certificate!
There are so many glaring proofs that the document was being micro-edited as opposed to just a scan image overlaid on that background pattern (an action which *might* be legitimate, though I strongly doubt it.)
For one thing, why are so many random single characters on one layer and not the other? Given the mix of block letters vs handwriting, and the same kind of weird mix in both, I can't believe it's the result of some auto-text-extraction process.
But most dammingly, behold.... there are three instances of outlined 'selection areas' in the left hand layer. The 'Non' of 'None' (17a mother's occupation), part of the date stamp in fields 20 and 22. These 'selected' areas all appear in a flat lighter-than-black color in the final document.
No doubt at all. This document was 'constructed' by some fairly complex process of editing using tools like Illustrator. It's not just a simple scan, which it should be if genuine.
Why is it even converted to pdf, instead of a simple jpg or png? Is that just due to bureaucratic pdf-compulsion, or is it another case of the artist wanting to stick it to Obama, by ensuring the document edit history was retained in the file, as an Easter egg to be found by those who knew how to look?

Full disclosure: I'm not an expert, but I am very familiar with all of those softwares.
I have also looked at an online copy of another certificate (http://www.wnd.com/images/090728birthcert.gif) issued for a birth at the same hospital 3 days later---but 4 serial numbers lower!---than this one. Based on that copy, this certificate would appear to be 'real' with respect to fonts and layout ... even though it was obviously typed by a different typist, appears to have used a different date stamper, and was signed by a different Local Registrar! Go figure.
However, I'm still more interested in finding his legal status as a "natural born American" ... given that he may have taken Indonesian citizenship (and thereby lost his American citizenship) when his mother later married there, and also that his mother may not have had sufficient US residency qualification at the time of his birth for him to automatically qualify with a non-American father. The truth will out...eventually.
In the meantime, I'd like to see him impeached and/or charged with fraud, treason, racketeering, breach of trust and a variety of other offences for breaking so many election promises and bypassing the Constitution on so many occassions!

That is flatly bullshit. Don't think you can mumble "OCR-to-PDF scanner" and hope most people won't know this has nothing to do with why there are two BITMAPPED layers.
OCR means 'optical character recognition', and refers to converting _images_ of characters to the abstracted _codes_ for characters (such as ASCII or Unicode.) Yes, plenty of office copiers these days can scan a paper document, extract the text codes from the image, and generate a PDF of the document in which the text consists of character codes not bitmaped images of the page. In the past I've spent days and days OCR-ing entire books into text files. Just because that process is now quite well automated doesn't mean the fundamentals of what's involved have changed any.
But this HAS NOT BEEN DONE with this BC document. It is all still bitmapped, regardless of what software is used to display it. There is NO abstraction to character codes and font descriptions. There's just two bitmapped image layers, clearly the result of originally scanning one document to a bitmap image, then transfering some elements from that image to a new layer, adding in a checked green background to that layer, mucking around with the compression/pixelation on that layer in some areas, 'selecting' some items on the other layer (using a 'selection highlight' color strangely chosen to be very similar to the standard 'black' of that layer), then converting the combination of the two layers (both of which contain blatant evidence of manual detail editing) to a pdf. Complete with a layer edit history, inhomogeneous palette, _zero_ text 'OCR' abstraction, and some 'invisible' but still present area selection boxes.
I simply can't believe that anyone attempting this could be so ignorant of the tools that they wouldn't even do a 'flatten layers' before final output format conversion. It _has_ to be deliberate, and the only possible motivation for such extreme flaws would be to intentionally say 'this is a fake'.
And it's the President's supposed birth certificate, on the official White House web site, purporting (ostensibly) to support his Constitutional eligibility for that office.

The Obama birth-certificate looks quite NEW to me.
IMHO, a 50-years old document would look somewhat different.
The piece of paper President Obama showed today is not a Hawaiian birth certificate. It is not claimed to be a Hawaiian birth certificate. It is the long form, prepared by the hospital.
The Certificate of Live Birth, the short form, is prepared by the government, is the legal document required for proof of birth, and is the document controlled by the government. The long form is prepared by the hospital, is not considered legal proof of live birth, and I believe it is not controlled by the same agency that controls Certificates of Live Birth.
If you need to prove when you were born, the short-form Certificate of Live Birth is required, the long form won't do. Obama released the short-form Certificate of Live Birth during his presidential campaign.
If you request your birth certificate, you can watch the clerk place a new piece of official paper in the printer and print your certificate. If you are, say, 50 years old, you will have a new piece of paper legally proving that you were born fifty years ago. Therefore, I expect that the long form Obama displayed today would look relatively new.

Well, we don't know but this is the best we're gonna get. It is interesting that he had never produced it before but all of a sudden, he does. Perhaps he feels with his approval ratings sinking, he doesn't need this issue gaining momentum so it's best for him to nip it in the bud. He could do it with the real thing or a fake but until someone can produce evidence that he wasn't born in the US, this is a dead issue.
Also, I think the question whether people would care if they even discovered that he wasn't born in the US should have been asked. I think many people don't give a shit even if it was proven that he wasn't born in the US.

The only recourse the American people have is to prove in court, after a person is elected President, that they didn't meet one or both of the Constitutional requirements to be president. This has been done repeatedly. The courts have consistently found that the plaintiffs did not meet the burden of proof.
The American people do give a shit - if it can be proven. The real problem is that the people see this as a non-issue. Proof has been offered to the courts and the courts have ruled that the proof offered has not been sufficient.

Pretty easy stupid. The beeb has the long form, the second was the certificate of live birth that has been available since the campaign. I would worry more about people like you having the ability to read and understand a STOP sign than the provenence of a birth certificate.
If either is real, it's the BBC version. As anyone who's used Photoshop can see, the White House version has been altered by lifting the text and graphical elements from the original and merging them onto a green security-background.
All you have to do is look closely (try 300% zoom) at the WH doc, and you'll see that all the "typewritten" letters have white rings around them, and the green background does not extend behind or inside the letters. Another tip-off is that the printed elements of the form show anti-aliasing, whereas the typed stuff has the jaggies.
Why would the White House choose to alter the background? Why did the governor of Hawaii say the long-form birth certificate was "missing" just a couple of days ago? Beats me. Something ain't right.

Actually, whenever there are age and residency requirements for political office, ALL candidates for those positions should be routinely REQUIRED to formally submit proof of eligibility when they register.

I know that very few people here like Palin , but she tweeted a message to the press that said, in part, that while Trump forced the release of the BC, the press shouldn't be distracted from the main news of the day, which was Bernanke's press conference.
I think it is safe to conclude that Palin understands that the news from the FED will be bad. But then again, in this environment, how were we to expect good news?
