Watch Live As Protesting London Students Besiege Houses Of Parliament

Tyler Durden's picture

As English students continue their protest over tuition rate hikes, a protest that started over a month ago and which has at times turned violent, they have now surrounded the Houses of Parliament as politicians pretend to discuss a matter which is basically a fait accompli. It is expected that a resolution on the student hike may be reached shortly. Watch the protest live below via Sky News. At last check some barricades were being taken down rather violently...

I thought so, but I wanted to make sure. Regardless of what you think these students are or what they represent, at least they're willing to make some noise and fight for what they believe in. Too bad you don't have the balls to back up your bite. You're now welcome to return to your individual sheep pen.

And what would that be, CD?

A two-year-old does the same thing, for the same reason, doesn't he?

Since when do male glands determine the correctness of a budget dispute?

The lowest common denominator always gets a growl of approval doesn't it?

Neither one. Just try to figure out whose ox is getting gored and who wants more free money.

Just like a two year old wants candy and will rage to get it.

Get it?

These 'students' rampage has nothing to do with rights or justice and everything to do with more now lots immediately me get mine quick.

But it does make a great platform to orate and posture for the cynical and the witless.

I agree that generational warfare is bunk and a useful tool for control, but these students do not appear to be engaging in generational warfare.  The money isn't gone.  It just been moved somewhere else.  Since dialog hasn't worked, these students have decided on a different form of communication.

People don't get it. Sadly even here on ZH. That's why we're getting global communism next.

I agree with you that these kids are useful idiots. They're being used to crush "capitalism" which doesn't exist, for a while now. We had all these social programs and pyramid schemes for years and years and ran all the western countries into the ground and where were they then? When money was coming, nobody asked where it's coming from but now that the bill came due and the thieves collected their loot, these kids are running around asking for their share, not for justice, for their share!

This is why schools are crap, people don't learn anything useful.

I would agree with the whole violence deal because I think there's no other way, but only if they were to demand crooks be brought to justice and forced to repay what they stole. But no, nobody's asking for that. They want their cheap/free "education" and more government control. Useful idiots.

They want rioting in the streets so we'll cry out for protection and then they can 'take care' of us and remove all of our birth rights for a little security. Ben Franklin had it right.

I just listened to one student being interviewed. He said that he was protesting all the cuts across the board, including National Healthcare and Welfare. He said he will "NOT STAND FOR THE MASS CUTS."

It's a shame that the Marxist Welfare state has to collapse on THEIR heads - but what many of these students want is for the government to kick the can down the road so that the system collapses on the heads of their children instead of collapsing on their own heads.

I can't wait for the monetary global hyperinflation when all of these Marxist ideas finally see their end.

The amount of money the students wish to take from the government's pocket pales in comparison to that taken by the banks.  Further the money they get will get them educated and will help build this country.  The bankers appear to have destroyed the entire world's economy.

As someone who has put the money in the government's pocket, that is to say it's my money, I say educate the kids and give the banks a haircut.  And since I'm being ignored, someone has to send a different message.

First, isn't throwing a missile incredibly inefficient?

Second, again, more protests in favor of entitlements...  guys, I hate to break it to you, but you should have learned a very important lesson a long time ago...  there is no free lunch.  Until you decide to protest in favor of austerity, your cries will be hypocritical at best.  In other words, instead of protesting over raises in college tuition, you should be protesting, for example, about the ~50% of school staff and facilities that have been rendered completely unnecessary thanks to the downturn in the world's economy... you probably know some of them...  they may even be your immediate family members and friends...  unfortunately, you can either choose for them to keep their standards of living or you can choose cheaper tuition...  your choice (in all likelihood, neither is possible, but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt).

How about military budget cuts, parliament entitlement cuts as well as perks and pay, no bailouts to financial institutions, and start cutting at the top instead of the bottom. If this happened I don't think you would see so much protesting when and if they had to impose entitlement cuts to the common man. At least they would have taken the hypocrisy out of the equation. BTW I didn't junk you.

Cuts and cuts for all.  The problem would be, of course, that as the pork at the top gets cut, so too would the pork for the bottom of the totem pole.  In other words, extended unemployment, medicare/medicaid, social security, retirements, wellfare, you name it.  Debt destruction is a scortched earth policy...

This predicament is understood well by all...  and explains most actions.

I think the opposite of most...  we should cheer on all who seek, at this juncture, to expand the scope of moral hazard and spend with reckless abandon.  Obviously, given the wealth gap, I would hope the lower tiers would get the lion's share of the love, but that's unlikely.  In a perfect scenario, you would essentially have a slow, but steady trickle of borrowed cash flowing to the lower tier [who set up entities of their own to shield the losses and ultimately siphon the money to themselves with the least of risk], making up the difference in the wealth gap after they convert their new spoils into real assets.  If this did begin though, skynet would abort and dump the currency for real assets so as to mitigate damages of those still dumb enough to be holding hot potatoes.

Regardless, the road to austerity is going to be like a diabetus ridden quadrapalegic with down syndrome trying to climb everest without a sherpa to drag his ass up the mountain (simpsons).  Austerity only prolongs the pain.  I think it's time we embrace moral hazard and rack up the debt...  on every conceivable level, including holding others hostage for our debt repayments...  this should have a much quicker effect on collapse...

Come on the pork at the top doesn't get cut (if anything only shifted), and the ones that suffer are the poorest.

Sort of.  So long as there is a minority middle class, they suffer the most and once they can no longer bear the burden, they become part of the lowest class...  and then the free cake gets cut off...  until of course, we get an apetite for the upper crust...  whether it be through pitchforks or collective bargaining.

A question:

Is it "acceptable" (not the right word) for people to promote a violent response to the actions of the banksters and their government proxies?

Acceptable or not, it is the only way to change the status quo.

Violence begets the "strong-man." Hit these people where it really hurts...their pocketbooks. Stop buying their shit (including money), stop eating at their establishments, stop working for them, and close down the Washinton Mall by the millions...on a weekday. The message will be heard. I for one would welcome the opportunity to watch the royalty survive a breakdown of the just-in-time food conveyor.

OPEC's unity was broken when the Saudis sold out to the U.S..  OTH One simple example is the southern Black American's boycott of the public bus system because of discrimination. They had to relent or go broke, and you know the rest of the story. Is that in the textbook?

Sometimes collusion works long enough to accomplish its intended goal...  sometimes it falls short...

My guess is that we (the scrubs) will be fighting each other far too often and much to unite against our common enemies.  I'll be pleasantly surprised if I am incorrect.

If the kids don't get educated, they don't get jobs.  If they don't get jobs, they don't earn wages and pay taxes.  If wages don't get earned and taxes don't get paid, I have no employees, my stocks don't go up, my bonds deflate and my pension doesn't get paid.

I like getting my shoes shined, but I don't need a dozen guys lining up to do it.
