Watch The Result Of The English Tuition Hike Vote Live: Update - Tuition Hike Vote Passes

Tyler Durden's picture

Update: The tuition hike passes by margin of 21 votes.

The English parliament is supposed to vote any minute on whether to pass the tuition vote hike. The results may be unpleasant as the riots will surely escalate should an affirmative vote pass. Watch the results live here.

Police said that the protestors were allowed to march on an agreed upon route.  Since the protestors did not, the police had to beat them.  Don't these thugs realize the elected officials are also playing with police pensions as well?

The one good thing about watching these riots is taking note of what works and what doesn't.  Paint balloons are a great idea.  I could see passing out roaming candles to everyone in the crowd as well.  First and foremost would be protective gear like the thugs wears, but obviously not the same colors as them.

The sad thing is the sheep would rather watch their football in Amerika rather than pay attention to the wholesale anal raping they are receiving.

A police officer is helped by a medic during a protest in Westminster in central London December 9, 2010. Hundreds of protesters clashed with police in front of the British parliament in central London on Thursday ahead of a vote on university tuition fees which will test the strength of the coalition government. Demonstrators threw missiles and placards at police in the square in front of parliament.

on the one hand the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money but on the other hand it isn't obvious who the socialists are.....

which came first, the chicken or the egg...why do these students feel they need an education? because enough educrats and graduates arbitrarily determined that you can't get a job without a degree....

this in turn drives demand and then prices especially when the government lights both ends of the fuse - one for the students but first the one for the educrats...

i recently saw a 15usd/hr job for a call dispatcher demanding a college degree....and now you know why the students are revolting....and why the establishment with its mindless prim and proper rules is even more revolting...

save education for those who truly need it and can benefit from it....it will be a cold day in hell when i will ever use the differential equations class i took....in 20 years i have never used it once....what's more i don't know anyone who has used it in my profession it (read capital it)....but my god don't try to get a job without it (moderately advanced math)....

education entitlement is welfare for educrats...and a mob racket...control fraud at its worst

I agree completely. Think of how much time, energy and hence money is wasted on teaching people knowledge at college that is either a) readily accessible and free on the Internet, or b) completely useless to 99% of people it is taught to. very well said, the whole education/degree thing is just another scam. For Christ sake, you need a degree from beauty school to cut someone's hair!

Please don't ever say our public education system is a failure. It's the complete opposite. Skim off the cream of the crop and let everyone else work at Subway and Walmart. That's how it's set up. If everyone gets a degree, who'll cut the lawn, clean the pool, make hamburgers or sell us cheap Chinese crap at Target, Walmart?

To my mind, the real scandal is not that a large corporation
doesn't pay people more. The scandal is that so many people have so
little economic value. Despite (or because of) a free public school
system, millions of teenagers enter the work force without marketable
skills. So why would anyone expect them to be well paid?

A proper education should include things you never need. Utilitarian measures on what a "proper" education should include, are nonsense.

What about history, languages, art, music, crafts, pure maths? It that so unimportant? Is a "good" education one that teaches you only what you need for some lousy job?

No, on the contrary. Education should give an as wide and deep as possible understanding of all human undertakings, especially those which seem "useless". Because they are useless.

This guarantees that the 'Liberal-Democrats', which was the result of a desperate amalgamation of a spent political party (the Liberals) and a rag-bag of Labour defectors (defectives), the 'Social-Democrats', are now destined for the dustbin of political history. They just wanted at crack at being in government. They are nothing but political opportunists without ideology, with morals, with shame.

the vote was on English Education fees, the devolved parliament of Scotland ,and Wales make their own decisions on health, education and transport,

westminster gets to make the decisions on taxation oh and they get to keep the oil too

with any luck come May 2011 the Scottish elections will see another victory for the SNP to push for a referendum for independence from Westminster

Yes, and it's the English tax payers who subsidise Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Thu, 12/09/2010 - 15:09 | 793386 romeplebian

no you are wrong, this is a common misconception. The devolved paliament of Scotland gets a settlement each year and then it is up to the parliament what to spend its money on and if it chooses to give free prescriptions and tuition fees then it means that it is not spending it on something else.

The flow of money going to the Westminster treasury compared to the money going to the Scottish Parliament based on last years figures mean the Scottish Parliament is subsidising England to the tune of 10 billion pounds.

I will say this one more time if the little guardian readers are so keen on not paying for the so called Scottish free loaders, then please instruct your Tory and Labour friends to vote yes in the referendum for independence, but we both know that whilst there is still oil in the ground, the renewable energy and hydro electric schemes to send power to England and the water that is badly needed too, then they will moan about it in public but in private they know without Scottish commodities it would have been bust a long time ago.

The main problem is too many students. Its ridiculous to expect that every school leaver should be able to go to a higher level of education. They have got round it by making exams easier and giving absolute grades rather than relative. With so many students now, facilities are swamped. Thats right, student numbers have trebled in the last 7 years. Unfortunately most of the extra students are doing `media studies` , sociology or some other easy option which holds no value for employers.

Most UK taxpayers do not see why they should pay for this. When Students have to pay their way they will be forced to look at the level ecconomic of advantage it will give them. If it means more biochemists, engineers, medics etc then that will be fine with the taxpayer. If sociology and media studies courses cease being oversubscribed then ho cares.

The head of the Law Society was on BBC Radio a week or so ago saying "there are 7 law graduates for every pupilage available, we do not need this many"
