Brian Cowen is due to make a statement:
"I did what was for the bankers...uh...I mean the greater good."
"Greater good" is God's work...
You mean the chosen doing Gods work
he has a devil of a time doing God's work
I'll throw in my bit from Wicked:
SOMEONE IN THE CROWD:
No one mourns the Wicked
ANOTHER PERSON:
No one cries "They won't return!"
ALL:
No one lays a lily on their grave
MAN:
The good man scorns the Wicked!
WOMEN:
Through their lives, our children learn
ALL:
What we miss, when we misbehave:
GLINDA:
And Goodness knows
The Wicked's lives are lonely
Goodness knows
The Wicked die alone
It just shows when you're Wicked
You're left only
On your own
ALL:
Yes, Goodness knows
The Wicked's lives are lonely
Goodness knows
The Wicked cry alone
Nothing grows for the Wicked
They reap only
What they sow
If this is combined with structural adjustments and a strict austerity program, it will eventually save Ireland. Ireland is obviously living beyong their means.
Just look at the wonders these structural adjustments and austerity programs (known as the 'Washington Consensus') have had on nations like chile.
Ireland should just take it's medicine and come out all the better for it. And imagine the moral hazard that happens when a nation decides not to pay it's debt.
YHWH = Quagmire?????
Ewwwwww.
Giggity Giggity!
A better example is the effect such measures had on Newfoundland. I pointed this out over the weekend. Thank you for the opportunity to call this to more people's attention.
Newfoundland wasn't always a part of Canada. It used to have its own independent government. And then it spent a huge amount of money, far more than it could repay.
It ended up willingly giving up its independence in order to get out of its fiscal mess. 6 non-elected Governers were appointed to rule over it. Then it was merged with Canada.
That is the path that Ireland is being steered towards. It's amazing that the EU just can't wait to start to tell Ireland how to run its country, especially with those pesky low corporate tax rates.
Here's a link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Newfoundland_and_Labrador#Crisis...
Note this part. It sounds REAL familiar:
"Newfoundland's economy collapsed in the Great Depression, as prices plunged for fish, its main export. The government had borrowed heavily to construct and maintain a trans island railway and to finance the country's regiment in the first world war. By 1933, the public debt of over $100 million compared to a nominal national income of about $30 million. In 1933, the budget deficit was $3.5 million or over 10 percent of the island's GDP. A royal commission under Lord Amulree (Viscount William Worrender McKenzie) reported:[11]
My God, Sir, what a post! It seems the English are turning the financial crisis into a final solution for The Troubles?
That's what the game plan apparently is. When people are beaten down, they become much more complient. We see this lesson throughout history.
Take a look at Reggie M's post today; in particular, who owns the most debt of the PIIGS. It's the PIIGS themselves, in one big circlejerk of a bubble. IIRC, Bruce K pointed out over the weekend about the bubble in CDO's, where one financial group had to buy from another in order to sell more CDO's. The inverse of a whirlpool. We saw how well that one played out, didn't we?
Or, the dot-com boom. Where tech companies were buying and selling products to each other. That was quite nice until someone had to spoil the party by needing cash.
This circle-jerk of debt for the PIIGS can only end one way. And then the Creditors will move to take over the remaining assets. The Irish people might even thank them for it. But I would hope not.
"When people are beaten down, they become much more compliant."
People maybe, but not the Irish.
@YHYH
Sure we need lower wages , consumption etc. but to maintain these debt levels at the present level will transfer all assets to insiders who will rule in a feudal fashion.
Do you fancy yourself as a noble lord or knight of this new dark realm ?
I rather think "YHWH" fancies himself the Hebrew word for God.
("of this new dark realm")
Tyler, any news on the situation in Greece right now? The 10YR is again near 12, and greek banks have heavily suffered today.
That Irish news tart on there is HOT! Watch out Erin Burnett!!
The dude with the huge jowells? That is the PM.
No not Gandolff, the blond Irish news chick. Anyway, bunch of BS flows forth as they talk about passing a budget and more nonsense. Same ol shit, different day.
What's with the whole "hair covering half my face" trick? Is she trying to hide the bruise marks that her drunk boyfriend gave her when he beat her up?
God, you are bloody hilarious. Take it on the road mate, take it to the people right this minute!
Question, who in the audience has a pie? Please step to the front, the person with the pie.
Or at least a shoe. I mean everyone has at least one... Times are not that bad yet...
I heard a woman named Hank Paulson make this speach already.
The speach about betraying her country.
Now if there ever were a mannish looking women, it was that Hank Paulson. At least this chick has her hair.
That fat bloat in the middle of the TV should be put in jail and have the keys thrown away.
Dis-fucking-graceful. I cannot watch it.
The dark truth of Irish Prime Minister Cowen’s drinking.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1313358/The-dark-truth-Irish-Pri...
I would think hard drinking is an electable asset in Ireland.
Somewhere in the not so distant past someone in the family changed the name from Cohen to Cowen after a night of heavy drinking.
Oh, another drunk with a great big (not necessarily attractive) personality.
You have to wonder.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poDV_cy5C74
Funny. How he betrayed his people.
The greek Papadopolus (sorry about his name) did not enjoy the same treatment. He was a leech living off the generosity of North Europa.
Gang mentality.
Connection was really laggy, but It sounded to me like he said "We're doing this and we don't want to have elections"
Anybody get a better take?
Thats about it, along with something about passing a budget being the utmost importance right now in totaly bankrupt Ireland.
No money for you, no money for you, no money for you and no money for you. That concludes the budget meeting, who wants whiskey?
dude just announced his resignation pending the passage of the banker giveaway...he better leave the country asap...bitch made mother fucker....
A good question to ask him would be:
Sir, how are you going to leave this building without getting your ass kicked?
Is Cowen somehow related to Barney Frank?...
Nope, Fat Slob Politicians are the natural byproduct of any captured form of government.
Well, it is natural...
Maybe he dropped the h from his name.
No. The "w" was a "v".
Ireland will now have to let go their low corporate tax system for large companies.
This in turn is the only thing that made it possible for the Irish to attrack international investors.
Now that is gone, the international investments will just stop and kill the Irish economy.
THIS GENTLEMEN, IS PROTECTIONISME AT ITS BEST!!
If this is what they want, it will NOT be Spain who will fall next but EASTERN EUROPE!
JUST WAIT AND SEE!
Europe's loss is America's gain.
Life is a zero sum game. Only in the make believe world of a ponzi/fire economy this rule doesn't apply.
Don't bet on it.
Europe + America = The West.
We are both losing this game.
So whatever happens to a western country should all be our concern because this will keep on spreading untill all the countries are affected and banks rule the world.
We're only "the West" in the self-deluded eyes of people who still feel some nostolgic ties to "the old country". George Washington warned us about entangling alliances. It's high time we revisit his warnings.
he was talking about alliances with the European Monarchs.
And the alliances that created all this mess where the American alliances.
Ireland's problem is that they don't have a tea party movement to get the government to stop spending so much money and stop the government from taking on so much debt. Don't blame America for Ireland's problems.
Er, no. That's Greece's problem. Ireland's problem is that it has private sector banks willing to destroy themselves in lending bubbles and a government willing to do anything to bail them out. Sounds pretty similar to America's problems, doesn't it?
The parallels are . . eerie!
another know it all and you've been here all of five weeks. You should be argueing with johnny bravo.
I was under the impression that the human race had created some wealth since the Industrial Revolution, and over the past few thousand years in general.
Yes, and The Rothchild family and the Rockefeller family et al are living off the interest of the interest of it.
- for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
- for every unit of wealth created, there is an equal and opposite units of wealth destroyed.
R.S.
So why have per-capita incomes (never mind total wealth) risen since the paleolithic?
So why have the migratory birds, the migratory fish, the old growth forest, the buffalo, the elk, the cougar, the oil, the clean water, the clean air, the blue skies, the coal, the etc., the etc., (never-mind the indigenous people) decreased since the paleolithic?
Because they couldn't manage their economies.
The UK has found an extra 11 billion and has offered it to Irish,
Official statement: They need it, we have it, we can live with out it.
The English have a 10 trillion debt themselves!
It's just a way to get a financial grip on Ireland.
WHY FIGHT THE IRA WHEN YOU CAN JUST TURN THEM INTO SLAVES!
Now don't you worry about the IRA me old son! They will do just ducky!
Now where did I bury that big box of...
25 steps north of the old oak tree.
at least that's what you posted on your twitter account...
I haven't worked out the UK gov contribution yet. What is it they're trying to buy? The UK is on the hook for a good few billion in the shape of the European stability fund as it is (in addition to the discretionary 7bn). Why offer up more cash when you know Europe isn't exactly going to let Ireland go under as that would be the end of it all?
That said, I'm assuming Osborne knows more about economics than the MSM.
Answers on a postcard....
bankers are not "governed" nor do they suffer from "allegiance" to nationstates.
hint:
Domestically the British can not award another bailout to the banks, there would be riots so they are 'lending' the money to their 'friends' in need who will use it to pay back some of the British banks exposure to Irish debt. main culprit is RBS, 95.7% of its net assets are here in Ireland. So Ireland borrows the money at interest to pay back the loans (plus interest) it already owes to the bank. Kind of scary don't you think?
We have to hurry up and pass this measure. We have to do it in a hurry now. Gee, where have I heard this before?
Yes, no time to think or debate it, and resistance will not be tollerated in our direct plunge into total insolvency! It must be done NOW!
Yeh its important to our political stability that we get this done as soon as possible. Gee, what does that mean?
Sad day for Ireland, who could have guessed the Vikings would come back. Time to pillage the village.
VIKINGS RULED!!
Sudden
the Vikes most certainly invaded Ireland and many of them eventually settled in Ireland. It was not solely England
Ha! Another poor bastard Vikings fan. Its a tuff season. enough said.
Watch sky news coverage not cnbs bloomshit. People on the street there are outraged and mad.
The budget the want to pass means pain for years, cuts in social service, lowering minimum wages, tax hikes. This will not go well.
You mean cutting welfare, freeing labor markets, and paying off your debts?
Isn't that what many on this site are calling for here in the USA? Why is it good for the USA, but bad for ireland?
That is what is needed. No-one said they would like it.
Sometimes medicine tastes bad. If it didn't, we'd have taken it long ago. Of course, the medicine just gets worse and worse as time goes on.
"Why is it good for the USA, but bad for ireland?"
because the TBTF leechocracy is being maintained at the people's expense numbnuts
Pass the budget on 07 Dec.
That is the date that has been set for doing a bank run in the E.U.
jal
We should have a bank run here too, but no sports superstar has called for it as they did in Europe!
Thats actually pretty logic.
Most Americans are to obese to run.
Sounds like a good day to do it in the US too.
There are many dedicated USA groups already signing up to the bank run, google it. Even the BBC is covering it now.
Cowan won't stand down.
It's gonna be a long night.
Cowan won't get much sleep tonight either...
Europe doesn't really matter to the NFL and NASCAR-watching consumers here in the U.S.
Things are getting ramped up for the holidays, as evidenced by the ridiculous action in shoe stores, burrito retailers, yoga clothing companies and the like...
They were certainly standing in line at the Stanford Shopping Center last night.
Oh, yeah, I guess the v-shaped tech recovery is in full swing....
Robo, you're right. Even investors here don't care. The media spins it so the information is obfuscated.
Then all of a sudden shit hits the fan and Ireland on the brink, or bear sterns closes over a weekend.
In reality you can see if coming a mile away.
Reality coming, and for all of the talk about bringing JPM down, the sweet side is that if one pulls out now, exchanges for silver, you end up with something. Yes it is the perfect plan, and because it is now an open manifesto, we do not have much time.
With all that cash fresh from Sackman's POMO, what do you expect the PDs to do? Buy Irish bonds? Na. Blythe will have Dimon give her enough to short the COMEX with until Gensler makes a decision regarding the use of quantum leverage to short non existing assets. In the meantime the real retail investor will be taking their money back in the form of silver. Silver snitches! Look robo, a hot babe on a mission!

Said this last night and got junked beyond comprehension. Had to stop in the mall yesterday and I saw nothing buy smiling consumer faces with tons of bags in hand. Apple store out of control.
US consumer doesn't care about anything as far as Greece, Ireland, etc. Just let them buy the latest iPhone - that's about the extent of it.
"Oxygen gets you high.....Faces as docile as Hindu cows..."
Replace oxygen with hopium/consumerism and maybe...maybe Harry sees where this goes.
Like happy ants about to get hit with the garden hose.
Or even better, cheerful grasshoppers.
My gas tank is full so there is no need for energy policy, right?
World reserves are 55 million barrels, the trick is to not remember the world consumes 83 million barrels in a day, and forget how much of that is consumed in America, move along!
Details, details. Like I said, my gas tank is like the malls: full; so no problems. Life is good and I lookforward to a comfortable retirement on my social security pension in 30 years. People are paying in, so that means I will get money out. /sarc off (as if I needed to state the obvious).
Those are not accurate oil reserve numbers.
I won't bother educating about unproven and proven reserves. Read about Alaska's National Petroleum Reserve - A to learn about that.
US oil consumption is about 19 million barrels / day.
Sorry, above ground reserves. Feel better?
and my tummy is full so no need to get off those petroleum fertilizers
US consumer doesn't care about anything as far as Greece, Ireland, etc. Just let them buy the latest iPhone - that's about the extent of it.
Every world event viewed through the filter of "how will it affect my AAPL stock?".
CNN: 100000 killed in tsunami.
HW: So what? Those guys didn't buy iPhones.
Harry you are correct, although you could have said the same thing about the Lehman Brothers meltdown... average mall-shopping Americans didn't care about that either, but it sure as hell ended up affecting them.
Americans don't care about anything until the consequences hit, which they will. The debts of the banks are simply too large to be papered over. This whole exercise of extend and pretend keeps Americans blissfully ignorant but won't prevent the eventual collapse.
Post a 24 hour chart of gold to see a V-shaped recovery.
But we can't ever post a chart showing gold going up, can we?
-$12 +$17
We must do this now, no budget no bailout, no bailout no budget; by the way I am retiring have a good life!!
Right you are Robo!
Retailer's ETF new all time high....
Everyone is ready to max out credit cards to buy Chinese made shitnthey don't need.
The bankers gambled. The bankers lost. The bankers refused to fall on their swords. The basic tenants of a capitalist system have been violated. The system is broken and rotted to the core. There are no fixes to this crisis. The scary part...the natives are slowly waking up and will soon get restless...
TENETS
NWO Oligarchy Train Raping the world..Raped the US, on to Greece, Ireland, Spain, Portugal and many more stops to go....Just making their rounds.
I maintain that we will see highs of the year on SPX by Friday close. Huge turnaround today blew any bears out of the water.
And if what you maintain turns out wrong, then what, Harry?
The way silver is correlated with the S&P these last couple of months, with talk of comex delivery issues and opex this week, i'd be surprised if markets explode up.
There wouldnt be any crash for sure but blasting the markets up this holiday week is asking to get killed on december delivery.
I maintain that we will see highs of the year on SPX by Friday close.
You may well be right. Too bad it'll be as measured in dollars, meaning the SPX won't actually be up at all, but just the dollar down.
Kind of like falling off a cliff with a boulder, watching yourself go higher and higher relative to said boulder, and proclaiming "Look Ma - I'm FLYING!!!".
(then.... splat)
When will the real IRA start using banksters for target practice?
Rouge nation ALERT Irish Stew, Kiwi treat, Mexican hangings
Wow! I wish our journalists were as tough on the politicians as the Irish journalists are. The guy actually came out and accused the politician of "betrayal".
Generic Irish-crisis linkdump. Two blogs:
The Manchester Guardian has good minute-by-minute coverage.
Nice muckraking account of the Irish bubble: The Bankers: How the Banks Brought Ireland to Its Knees by Shane Ross.
Since when has any euro politician cared about his people? If euro-land and America are living beyond their means say bye bye third worlder....you to China boy!!
Speaking as an environmentalist I see it as necessary that the "Real IRA" and other sports clubs cull the banker herd a little. See if we don't shoot some then the whole herd will starve. So we are doing them a favor by shooting them. Catching and releasing really isn't an option at this point as I'm afraid the herd has grown beyond control.
I would suggest setting up hides around known watering holes. The bankers call these watering holes "central banks". I would also suggest Brooks Brothers for your camouflage wear and BMW 7 series for your hide.

George Osborne and the UK govt are not lending Ireland money out of some kind of neighbourly patronage or misguided sense of philanthropy, they doing it to bail out Lloyds and RBS,who have between them lent billions to the Irish in the final years of the housing bubble,so in effect this is Bailout MkII for the UK banks.
The UK govt could simply have said we are not in the Eurocurrency zone so why should we bail out a bust country that enjoyed the boom but went too far?

This is NOT over yet. The below is from 11/14, just 6 days ago.
"Longtime Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams announced Sunday that he's leaving Northern Ireland politics to run for parliament in the Irish Republic, blasting what he called the current Irish government's "deeply damaging" economic policy.
Adams said he will relinquish his seat in Northern Ireland's Legislative Assembly to run for a seat in the Dail from Ireland's County Louth. Sinn Fein holds seats in both bodies, and has become "the only effective opposition" to the austerity program of Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen's government, Adams said in announcing his decision."

They're his droogies.
Economic Commissioner Olli Rehn, Ireland's difficulties are not led by the fact that Portugal would have to resort to the next EU financial support.
Ireland and Portugal there are no "domino effect", as the countries' economic situations differ significantly, Rehn said STT.
Rehn recalled that the Irish are at the heart of the problems of the banking sector's difficulties.
- Portugal, the problem has been rather slow growth, and private debt, but it has made a number of well-informed decisions to balance the public finances and a sense very right track, Rehn's assessment.
The estimates reported in the media that the Irish needed aid amount is around 80-90 billion euros. Rehn did not want to comment on the relevancy of the estimates.
- We agreed on the first program, the content and terms, only after the level of funding.
Rehn, the EU's support system is not evolving slot machines for everyone. EU aid conditions are so strict that nobody wants to be voluntarily submit to them, Rehn said.

I hope people everywhere start paying more attention on who they vote for in the future....crooks, drunks, idiots and slobs have ruled for too long.
thats true.. but when voting they are all presented as model politicians bringing hope and change. How to read through the party crap?????
If we had media that was worth anything it would be a bit easier. Sadly, we don't, not in the U.S. None of them think independently or stray from their hackneyed templates for presenting issues.
