No fucking shit. So far it's been words, words, and more words. No concrete solutions, no word on cuts on the programs where it's necessary (but would cost jobs), no word on cuts to the military - nothing. It's just more bullshit spawned about "we know the problem, we know how to solve it, we will move forward with it".

"Without getting into details, a lot of hard choices will have to be made, there's will, balanced budget deal... we believe it's possible..." blah blah fucking blah.

"He takes it very seriously."

"That's like saying... you'd put a gun to your head and pull the trigger. Is that wise? I don't know"

That's why you're a high paid official. Apparently, you can't even tell if pulling the trigger is a wise move.

Oh, and apparently starting infrastructure projects is blasted as GOOD while at the same time talking about deficit reduction. Jeez, the insanity here is just boundless.

But Robot is right.  The Pres needs to put grimy Dinero directly into the hands of the roiling, unwashed masses.  This will buy him Love and kick the momo over the edge to where it needs to be to vanquish his Republican foes.  The move will also hasten a market Celebration and further fuel inflation; both of which I personally welcome.

Dear people,

reaching the debt ceiling gives us an unique chance to change. People have to save, in short and long term. It can take decades but we have to do it.
Change is what people are looking for and we care about you.

I know you are living in hardship, defaulting on mortgages, living on foodstamps and not getting medical care we promised you on the election-change

Hardship is not really bad and you can learn much suffering it. We want you to save. So living in a tent is not so bad when you are proud of suffering and it dramatically cuts down costs so you can save. Living on foodstamps is also cutting your costs. You can also cut into the education budget for your children. There is nothing wrong about this. You will get out strong on the long term.

We, as US citizens, can not default on our debt. That's not an option, but we cannot kick the can down the road.

So we have only one option, Cuts together with stimulating the economy and so our GDP.

We leave the dissection of these words to ZH and their readers to get a clue how to reach our targets, thanks in advance

Rule #1 to reach anyone here: Don't expect them to care about useless stats like GDP at all.

Rule #2: Don't expect them to be willing to accept ANY cuts AT ALL, unless the root causes are addressed: Import/Export shism, the fed, the banking cartel, an overblown military, and buerocratic bloat.

Top 10 corporations which paid no taxes

Here is Sen. Sanders’ list of the 10 worst corporate income tax avoiders:

1) Exxon Mobil made $19 billion in profits in 2009. Exxon not only paid no federal income taxes, it actually received a $156 million rebate from the IRS, according to its SEC filings. (Source: Exxon Mobil’s 2009 shareholder report filed with the SEC here.)

2) Bank of America received a $1.9 billion tax refund from the IRS last year, although it made $4.4 billion in profits and received a bailout from the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department of nearly $1 trillion. (Source: here, ProPublica here and Treasury here.)

3) General Electric made $26 billion in profits in the United States over the past five years and, thanks to clever use of loopholes, paid no taxes.(Source: Citizens for Tax Justice here and The New York Times here. Note: despite rumors to the contrary, the Times has stood by its story.)

4) Chevron received a $19 million refund from the IRS last year after it made $10 billion in profits in 2009. (Source: See 2009 Chevron annual report here. Note 15 on page FS-46 of this report shows a U.S. federal income tax liability of $128 million, but that it was able to defer $147 million for a U.S. federal income tax liability of negative $19 million.)

5) Boeing, which received a $30 billion contract from the Pentagon to build 179 airborne tankers, got a $124 million refund from the IRS last year. (Source: Paul Buchheit, professor, DePaul University, here and Citizens for Tax Justice here.)

6) Valero Energy, the 25th largest company in America with $68 billion in sales last year, received a $157 million tax refund check from the IRS and, over the past three years, received a $134 million tax break from the oil and gas manufacturing tax deduction. (Source: the company’s 2009 annual report, pg. 112, here.)

7) Goldman Sachs in 2008 only paid 1.1 percent of its income in taxes even though it earned a profit of $2.3 billion and received an almost $800 billion from the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury Department. (Source: Bloomberg News here, ProPublica here, Treasury Department here.)

8) Citigroup last year made more than $4 billion in profits but paid no federal income taxes. It received a $2.5 trillion bailout from the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury. (Source: Paul Buchheit, professor, DePaul University, here, ProPublica here, Treasury Department here.)

9) ConocoPhillips, the fifth largest oil company in the United States, made $16 billion in profits from 2006 through 2009, but received $451 million in tax breaks through the oil and gas manufacturing deduction. (Sources: Profits can be found here. The deduction can be found on the company’s 2010 SEC 10-K report to shareholders on 2009 finances, pg. 127, here.)

10) Carnival Cruise Lines made more than $11 billion in profits over the past five years, but its federal income tax rate during those years was just 1.1 percent. (Source: The New York Times here.)

The only thing I can think of to explain the market's strength is:

Some type of "Dream Team" for O'bummer's economic advisory staff:

- Jamie "Rubber Lips" Dimon

- Mark "Dismal" Zandi

- Diane "Lip Gloss" Swonk

- Larry "Crud"low

- Steve "Yeast"man

Troops are coming home, extra workforce. Hope they do not hang around and are being dropped into Libia or something. Time to boost US production, real consumer stuff. Time is also the thing the US does not have. The plan has to come.... from another planet. And so B.O'B can not take the blame

And so B.O'B can not take the blame.

Of course not. After all, he hasn't used his term so far, to get the US beyond event horizon. The administration hasn't been complicit in it at all.

Right. If that is so, let the whole thing come down.... that way, at least no one can cowardly escape the consequences, instead of 99% taking the hit, so that a TBTF 1% can live happy ever after it has causes this mess. Let's remove all ejection seats for everyone, and see how "creative" and "fast" people get.

Did I miss anything?

Had to go get bolts to fix the exhaust on my old pickup (not a Chevy - sorry GM dealers - you have my sympathy).

Zoom-zoom, my reliable Mazda, 18 years for the middle exhaust pipe before it got a hole, I'm satisfied.

What were we talking about again?

Did the teleprompter take over today?

I can't wait for someone to hack the teleprompter.

I watched two federal employees discuss this in the metro. The first said "they are raiding the pension fund.". The other just had a look of a deer in the head lights.

It is nice to see something is getting through the DC sheltered bubble.
