Watch The UN Vote To Bomb Libya - Live

Tyler Durden's picture

As reported earlier, the UN Security Council will vote in minutes (process to begin at 6:00PM Eastern) on whether to commence the imminent bombing of Libya. The preliminary roll call has US, UK and France voting yes, with China and Russia likely abstaining. The vote is sure to pass unless someone vetoes it which is very unlikely. Also as was disclosed previously, the full resolution that is being voted and which nobody has probably read, can be found at the following link. Watch for the reaction in crude following the vote passage, and especially following Bloomberg headlines that France has launched an all out attack.

"This is craziness, madness, arrogance. If the world gets crazy with us we will get crazy too. We will respond. We will make their lives hell because they are making our lives hell. They will never have peace".

Muammar Gaddafi  Just now in response to the passing of these resolutions

6.36pm ET: Muammar Gaddafi has already made his feelings known, telling the Portuguese TV channel RTP that the UN resolution was an act of "flagrant colonization" for which it had no legal mandate:

I'm still out on a limb.  I say the US stays out any actual military action.

I'm confused. Do we start bombing now or after the rebels are all dead? These idiots wait several days before they wipe their ass.

The rebels were acting like a bunch of frat boys, they had no concept of military strategy.  I'm not saying that they deserve what they are getting, only that they did not act very intelligently - now we are supposed to bail out their ass?  I don't think so...

The rebels have had 100 times more guts in fighting their corrupted regime than Americans.

What can you do in a dictatorship, with no weapons available ?

This is NOT about any rebels or human rights, it is about OIL.

You can see that other commodities do not matter as much as oil by looking at what happens in ivory coast. Cocoa is not a reason to go to war, but oil is.

Then again, if it's about oil, why not leave Gaddafi in power since that would ensure the european oil supply is flowing - why bother fighting for it when you can print pieces of paper and trade them for oil?

The military industrial complex loves war - it´s good for business.

Also Gaddafi traded with china and india, thats not in US interest.

why? why do you think the French are so anxious to go to war? Because they jumped the gun, went and embraced the rebels and rushed to recognize them as the "legitmate" government but when gaddafi started to gain they realized they made a big mistake.

China is speaking.  He says his country is very upset at the way the Libyan governement is treating its people and that the territorial integrity of something something should be respected.  Didn't know he was that funny.

He should take that act on the road.  Bar Mitzvahs and such.

Was watching footage of Gadaffi's deployed army in the field today and it had SA 8 (15km range).

And what looked Like a Swedish MANPAD (4km range) mounted on a pickup

Battlefield interdiction around the east will get messy fast if they don't take those down, first.

Won't be as simple or fast as many seem to assume.

They will need SAR in there and preferrably USN growlers also, before they can go after those systems

Yeah, I don't doubt that, there are plently of options really, but these are not going to be lit up like Christmas trees either that a RWR can spot. The MANPADS are virtually undetectable until they launch.

So it will take some care and time to nail them with no losses. That will be the outcome, but supposedly they have ~20 SA 8 launchers. I think I saw 4 deployed in the footage, near to his forward units, etc., but there will be others, sprinkled around and those are the danger.
