Wikileaks Releases Video Depicting US Military Slaying Of Dozen Iraqis Including Two Reuters Employees
After much speculation that it was nothing but a red herring, Wikileaks, which has recently gotten some substantial press coverage on both sides, has finally released a classified video leaked by "a number of military whistleblowers" which depicts "the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad -- including two Reuters news staff." The Reuters employees in question are Saeed Chmagh and Namir Noor-Eldeen. Full video is below, linked from Wikileaks' YouTube site. Full video attached - warning: video is very graphic.
As WikiLeaks further elaborates:
Reuters has been trying to obtain the video through the Freedom of Information Act, without success since the time of the attack. The video, shot from an Apache helicopter gun-site, clearly shows the unprovoked slaying of a wounded Reuters employee and his rescuers. Two young children involved in the rescue were also seriously wounded.
The military did not reveal how the Reuters staff were killed, and stated that they did not know how the children were injured.
After demands by Reuters, the incident was investigated and the U.S. military concluded that the actions of the soldiers were in accordance with the law of armed conflict and its own "Rules of Engagement".
Consequently, WikiLeaks has released the classified Rules of Engagement for 2006, 2007 and 2008, revealing these rules before, during, and after the killings.
WikiLeaks has released both the original 38 minutes video and a shorter version with an initial analysis. Subtitles have been added to both versions from the radio transmissions.
WikiLeaks obtained this video as well as supporting documents from a number of military whistleblowers. WikiLeaks goes to great lengths to verify the authenticity of the information it receives. We have analyzed the information about this incident from a variety of source material. We have spoken to witnesses and journalists directly involved in the incident.
WikiLeaks wants to ensure that all the leaked information it receives gets the attention it deserves. In this particular case, some of the people killed were journalists that were simply doing their jobs: putting their lives at risk in order to report on war. Iraq is a very dangerous place for journalists: from 2003- 2009, 139 journalists were killed while doing their work.

You can certainly understand how an extended families of the victims would come to hate Americans.

This reality shouldn't shock anyone who lives in the US, UK and Israel. This is what the countries and territories we occupy live every day. The crimes and then the cover up. But the media outlets have scrubbed it clean and now it's a VICTORY for Freedom and Democracy! (as opposed to an empire securing oil resources and controlling the opium trade).
In reply to CD's article, many people doing small things can accomplish much. Take the time to look at MSM articles and start educating people in the comment sections.
Over 500 comments going toward 600--looks like the topic is relevant at ZH. I read most of them, seems like one thing got missed. A video like this could lose the war for the US. Americans don't have the stomach for this. I can see all the arguments pro and con-war crimes vs. justified by fog of war. Still, watching this is so disturbing, the main reaction will be: let's just ramp up our natural gas supplies and get outta the middle east.
NG too cheap , not enough profit, already has a distribution system, makes too much sense......
Go to the back of the class please...
nuking Iraq would of been more humanitarian than this shit
Congrats ZH, CNN online is now carrying this story:

I wish one of our present leaders really gave a shit about what Eisenhower said.
Looks like standard operating procedure, and normal Air Weapons Team activity. Wikileaks really let us down with this one. Its just a regular AWT gun video like any other on youtube. Everything looked proper to me. Thats what the inside of a sausage factory looks like. I would like to see the war end and all of our men come home already becaus it was a war based on lies. The whole Iraq war is BS, and based on lies but the troopers are fighting it the way they are trained. Its going to keep looking like this until millions of Americans protest Obama and force his controllers to end the war.
Killing people is fun for a lot of people.
Wars let people go out and kill people. Technological advantages add ever more layers of disconnect between the killer and the killed.
It's not that the wars should have never started. It's that our empire should never had reached out in a desperate gamble to save itself.
Meh, collateral-lite, pretty clinical compared to the firebombing of Dresden or Tokyo.
We have to remember why we went over there. WMD, ok if he had them he could have put them in the missles and shot them at the U.S.. The missles would have fell short by a long shot but with the momentum and the water current could have eventually reached our shores. Then if somebody was messing around and hit the tip with a hammer hard enough it would have released the biological gases. A very scary scenario. Well since we are over there now we might as well give them democracy and freedom. UNFUCKING BELIEVABLE THE HYPOCRISY.
lmao
