Will Americans Reclaim Our Nation in 2010 From the Thugs and Con Artists?

George Washington's picture

The giant banks are treating the American Citizen like we work for them, are holding the economy hostage, and are taking our deposits and using them to speculate in casino style gambling.

They've bought and paid for Congress and the White House. See this, this and this.

Will Americans exercise our power, or become serfs to a permanent banking royalty?

An economist says the healthcare bill "is just another bailout of the financial system", and lawyers say that it is unconstitutional.

Will we defeat this giveaway to the insurance giants, or become permanent slaves to mandatory insurance requirements?

Top scientists, economists and environmentalists all say
that cap and trade is a scam which won't significantly reduce C02
emissions, and will only help in making the financial players who
crashed the economy even more wealthy.

Will we defeat this
worthless scam, or allow the failed banks like Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan
and Citigroup - who have already taken many billions of taxpayer
dollars - to make a fortune off of this con game at our expense?

Will
Americans reclaim our nation in 2010 from the thugs and con artists, or
put our heads down and stay subservient while the little we have left
in the way of money, resources and dignity is stolen by the giant
banks, insurance companies and carbon trading players?

What "global elite"? The US has the lowest voter participation in the world. There is no "global elite", just a bunch of scumbags who stepped in, in the vacuum left by an electorate to lazy to do their job.

That finger you're pointing? Aim it right in the mirror.

Wrong.  Government exists for one reason and it's not to protect our unalienable rights.  It exists to protect the powerful and legitimize all of their schemes for defrauding us and stealing the wealth that we produce.  Check out this article:

http://sociology.ucsc.edu/whorulesamerica/power/class_domination.html

This was written by a respected sociology professor, Bill Domhoff, not a conspiracy wingnut.  Everything you learned in civics was just part of the charade.

So correct you are Anonymous #180016, regarding an apathetic electorate. Read 'em and weep (I know I sure do):

Last March 31st of 2009, the City of Los Angeles re-elected incumbant Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. I've resided here in southern California since 1965 as a small child. Anyway, the city of L.A. "boasts" a population of approximately 3.8 million "folks".

Now, I figure at least half that number must be eligible to vote (subtract those under 18 and thus, ineligible, as well as the high number of illegal aliens who reside in L.A). So, this leaves maybe 1.9 million "Angelenos" who are probably eligible voters (at least). Here's the sad truth -Antonio Villaraigosa was re-elected as Mayor of one of the largest cities in the entire world with a lousy 127,000 votes. That's it, that's all it took in a city of nearly 4 million people, just a lousy 127,000 votes.

So, you talk about the apathetic electorate. There is no greater example than that particular L.A. Mayoral race. And people have given their lives merely to have a shot at representative government. What in the world would they think about our current debacle?

It is a sign of the time.

Nobody cares; no one gives a hoot.

This is what America has been built on.

My pocket, my money, me, me me and you: please f$9# yourself before you die (this is, if I cannot make money out of you).

This lack of compassion has been obvious in US foreign policy for the last 50 years. Now this has become also the internal policy.

Washington, you can write what you want and have a follower or 2, the crux of the matter is that USA will suffocate slowly a terrible dead due to egoism.

The great nation it once was, is no more.

You can see "it" happening in small ways and slowly:

Leadership will arise when the time is right.
Right leaders ---- when enough people realize that we have all the power.

Very small numbers of people can effect great things.
Witness and reflect on the Vietnam era.

Start withdrawing "support" in any way possible.
Small things.

STOP VOTING!!!!!
...at any Federal Level election.

Start attending your local Party meetings.
TAKE them over....they are run by a herd of fools who have no new ideas and only parrot Natl Caucus Talking Points.

There are MANY ordianry people who do know we are faced with nothing but a band of Scoundrels.

As we start to find one another......goodness.

No...

Americans gave up their nation and decided that they wanted "change".

Bush gave them a taste of it when he gave up all illusions of leadership and the population wanted more of it.

Our nation is now like a sky-diver that has jumped out of an airplane and discovered that he has no parachute. We will all agrue about why this was allowed to occur and maybe even what can be done to prevent impact, but impact will occur regardless...

Thanks for the good link, G dub, sir.

my worthless 2 cents: the war was lost a long time ago and even though retail thinks its still fighting a tough battle, it effectively conceded years if not decades ago.

may the curbs on the streets be high enough to withstand the river o' red rum that will likely soon traverse the arterial highways of the continental US et cet; especially if joe six-pack and john q. public do finally cross that rubicon and "achieve" their uber-pyrrhic victory over "HFT" ... effectively neutering traders like myself while leaving themselves  (retail) the easiest of prey for mkt makers to run roughshod over.

TA & taking your own finances / investments into, gasp, your own hands is simply the only kryptonite to what currently ails you. yes, you, no matter your name, job, ira size or investment style.

bottom line: while ya don't want folks like us on that wall sniping you (retail) with RPGs all day long ... you need folks like us on that wall to keep the big boyz with the daisy cutters, napalm and neuron bombs at bay.

THE moment congress tears down "our" sniping posts from the trees and NO individuals are able to see the forest as whole ... welp, if you thought the first week of last october was fugly, you ain't seen nuttin' yet.

quick hypothetical for the board ... would you rather:

A) keep "everything" where / how it is right now and have the S&P 500 finish 2010 exactly where it is right now with extremely little fluctuation outside of a 13% range traversing each side of 1100 INX; or

B) not heed the Ides of March as per "HFT", see congress cross that asinine rubicon and then witness your halfway reflated 401(k) shrink back to a 201(k) when the black eyes SnP cash closes 2010 at the inflection point of 742 ?

NOT making a prediction here, simply trying to underscore the seriousness of my personal opinion while everyone else goes salem, mass witch on folks with fast computers and a clue.

Too bad English is not your native tongue. It would be nice to read your post in a non-faux sophisto-stylistic manner. Do yourself, and perhaps the rest of us, a favor and read the works of talented writers who know how to make a point and craft a phrase at the same time.

Incidentally, the markets worked just fine pre-HFT days, with the occasional tumble part and parcel of investing. Frankly, if the S&P drops to 742, I couldn't care less. A smaller portfolio in a deflationary environment still beats a nominally large portfolio in an hyperinflationary environment. It goes without saying...well, not exactly...that a free and fair market is preferable to the nonsense we have now.

"..........all we need is a leader."

Why? Why must you wait for a leader? What will this leader do that you can't do? What will you do if that leader is then killed or "disappeared" leaving you leaderless? Why won't you be the leader? Why must someone else step into the breach before you will? Why is it always that people require someone else to go first? Why would anyone step up when no one wishes to step up?

I'm sorry but saying "all we need is a leader" is the biggest cop out on the books. The whole purpose of the official assassinations of the Kennedy's, Martin Luther King and so on was to demonstrate to one and all exactly what any "leader" can expect if he/she decides to lead. If anything is going to change, we must change it. So stop puffing up with false courage and either step up or step aside.

BTW, the place to lead is at the local level, in your local neighborhood, where you work to empower your neighbors and friends. This country will change when every person decides they have the courage and desire to change. No one is going to change it for you. You must make the changes or it stays the same. We are the TV generation. We sit our ass on the couch and demand the TV stimulate us. We sit our ass on ZH and demand someone else lead us.

Get real.

No one wishes to die regardless of if they are first or last. So what happens when that magical leader dies? Does the revolution then end? How is a "leader" going to change anything if the movement is dependent upon one person? We complain that others act like herded sheep or cattle but then we act the same way?

IMHO the solution is not to find one leader but to find a million leaders. We must work at the local level to empower ourselves, something I've been doing for 3 years in my community. It's amazing how excited people become when they discover in themselves the power to make changes they wish others would make but do not.

Power to the people doesn't mean flow the power down to the people. It means find the power already residing within the people.

For the first time in our nation's 234 year history we have a President in office hell bent on jamming unconstitutional legislation (the healthcare bill with its individual mandate) down the throats of an American public that doesn't want said legislation and is fully aware of the operation in real time.

Two years ago (a mere 700 odd days), 99.99% of the world had never heard the words Barack or Obama. I fear, soon we'll remember those pre Obama times fondly, as the cold realization of what this man is and stands for becomes apparent...if it hasn't already.

"Have you tried the political process?"

The political process is a rigged game, the place of original corruption. We have one party rule with two different factions of the same party fighting over who leads the parade this year.

It's pathetic to hear both parties claim that a third party candidate will ruin the system. That has to rank up there with the most biased self serving declaration mankind has witnessed. What's worse is the average Joe buys it hook, line and sinker.

I have made numerous calls to Senator's offices urging them not to vote to reappoint Ben Bernanke. If just 1,000 people did the same, do you think regarxdless of how crooked the system is that he would be confirmed? there are plenty of Senators who are uncomfortable voting for him. All that has to happen is to convince them that people are paying attention, that it was one thing in the heat of the moment, under threat of anarchy, to vote for Tarp and Timmy, quite another after time for sober thought to vote in favor of one of the architects of the disaster, the one person who fialed intehir responsibility more than anyone. GW is a gifted writer, but before he starts talking about a revolution, he should at least try to work through the system.

I respect you position and your views. I never said don't call or write your Representative or Senator. I said the process is corrupt and rigged.

However, the calls, letters and faxes against the bailout in Sept 2008 were at least 100 - 1 and up to 300 - 1 against and yet Congress still voted for it. I agree that on some issues the Congress critters will be responsive to public pressure. And if the powers that be are willing to abandon Bernanke, that will be telegraphed ahead of time to Congress, giving them the freedom to appease the plebs.

But if the powers that be want Bernanke reappointed, regardless of what the people want, Bernanke will be reappointed. The Congress critters know where their bread is buttered and they know that if they go with the powers that be and against the people, they will be rewarded with lots of money to fight for re-election when the time comes.

I've watched money flow towards and away from Congress critters long enough to see the cause and effect and so have they.

According to Wikipedia:

Following the trial, on 23 August 1305, Wallace was taken from the hall, stripped naked and dragged through the city at the heels of a horse to the Elms at Smithfield. He was hanged, drawn and quartered — strangled by hanging but released whilst he was still alive, emasculated, eviscerated and his bowels burnt before him, beheaded, then cut into four parts. His preserved head (dipped in tar) was placed on a pike atop London Bridge. It was later joined by the heads of the brothers, John and Simon Fraser. His limbs were displayed, separately, in Newcastle upon Tyne, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Stirling, and Aberdeen.

I'm ready as hell whenever anyone else is.  I'd rather fight and get "disappeared" than live to see the freak show that is likely to come.  When all is said and done I believe this will be a fine country once again but PLEASE tell me how to wake these zombie masses.  Anyone seen Naomi Wolfe's "The End of America?"  I am not so naive to believe that there are ten simple steps to becoming a closed society but I sure know what I am seeing around me.  There are so many self interested sleeping pricks out there who just don't know or don't care anymore.  Having said that I have to say that I agree with those ladies and gents that say that our society must hit bottom before we bring any real change.  I will not speculate on whatever the "bottom" will be but it will likely have to be pretty horrifying and that worries the hell out of me.  Grassroots movements often don't have the drive to make things happen because they are almost always demonized by the gubs and put down quickly, especially in a state that is clamping down on dissent.  Movements must be well organized or according to the papers that were put up for earlier reading by Marla sometimes rumors can do the trick.  This is not likely to be the case for the reasons stated above.  Only when the citizens of this country are truly stripped of most of their rights AND THEY CAN RECOGNIZE IT will they begin to organize in mass and push back.  Unfortunately Democracy has a short shelf life for there will always be people out there who wish to control others.  This is what we must fight.  For better or worse 2010 should prove to be an interesting year.  I wish the very best for all of you ZHers.  May you all have a happy new years.  As I said, I am ready when everyone else is.  Till I can find enough people to organize with I would rather not fight and die silently while everyone looks away and does nothing.  This would be a most dishonorable death.  Thanks to PM, TD, Marla, and all of the ZHers for all your excellent work!! HooFungPoo:

You cannot wake up the "zombie masses".  The zombization of America was helped by the liberating developments of the mass media.  IMO (from observation of the differences) the "boob tube" has been a principal instrument in the shortening of attention spans and numbing of minds.  Yes, some aspects are great.  I am a big C-Span fan.  But the commercial newscast programs have to generate revenue.  That requires content and content requires time and focus.

Shortly after "W"'s first inagural address, George Will posted an editorial in Newsweek on the length sentences in inaugural addresses since the first.  The first by Washington was made to Congress, a select group of, of course, but these were men who were well familiar with manual labor and operation, for hours on end, and with doing things with primative tools.

For many, their education was informal.  But Washington's sentences were the longest.

http://www.bartleby.com/124/pres13.html

The sentence declined through the years.

Guess which Harvard educated President delivered the shortest sentences?

Why did we expect more from "W" than what we got?  I hypothesize that people who bother to read this did vote through the years.  Try an internal exam to understand your neighbors.  How did you vote and why?

OK, I a ready to switch banks, but it will take a concerted effort.  It appears that Huffington has started in that direction.  But it must be sustained.  We the people must find it within ourselves.

And for the record, from my readings of history, congress has always had corrupt individuals.  The uses of government money in the building of the Union Pacific was not pretty.  The start of WWII was not pretty.  But that provided an opportunity for "give'em hell Harry".  Because the war was a serious two front war threat, mature men were brought to the top.

We can hope.

"It was a small group of dissenters who stood up to King George"

Sir, that small group of dissenters were the American elite, the wealthy and educated class, or at least a portion of them. The revolution started at the top and flowed downward. This group felt their wealth and freedom were threatened by The Bank of England, which King George was trying to shove down the colonists throats. Contrary to the populist myth taught in school, the American revolution wasn't a widespread populist uprising but rather the opposite.

I do agree that the only way we overcome this is on the local level. As long as we wait for a savior to fix everything, as long as we deny our own responsibility to get involved and do the hard work, nothing will change. I saw a post further below where someone said something along the line of "all we need is a leader" before we can revolt. Keep waiting dude, keep waiting. Either you lead or nothing will happen.

The problem I have with the current state of the U.S. is that it has too many engineers and not enough lawyers.

America has more lawyers than the rest of the planet does.
