Free speech was effectively terminated by the Patriot Act, which is still in effect.

Touching sentiment, but they didn't need the Patriot Act to monitor what you are saying and doing ... The Patriot Act merely rubs it in your face that they are doing that.

BTW: If Donald Trump runs for the Republican nomination, he is going to win. Despite Brooks & Co.

The Donald would be the only candidate with all the basic requirements. Intelligence, accomplishment, speaking ability, underlying hypocrisy.

And a wicked rug/thatch thing going on.  That much said, I find the man rather evil on basic principles.  In another incarnation, I had the occasion to listen to his presentation (after that of his then wife, Ivana, to whom he had just given the Plaza Hotel, where our meeting was held) to our trade group.  I have never heard a more belittling, self-centered, withering destruction of another human being--Ivana--in public.  She had no idea that this was to take place. It was simply without precedent in a public setting at that point, and the Donald made sure that there were ample PR guys there, in addition to our own. It was a disgusting performance.  I was quite surprised that the public media did not cover it, and that our own group did not contest the fees for the meeting.

He divorced her shortly after this performance.  But this is not a guy anybody would want to hold a trigger on anything. He may sound convincing from time to time--even sociopaths can--but I would never trust him with anything.

I have never seen nor met the man but the airs he gives on television would lead me to believe what you said is true.  He seems a spiteful, opportunistic and selfish child and he certainly should never be trusted with the presidency.

Worse, I can see him cutting down his wife in a big public way- maybe because she refused to have sex with him or something.  Petty, petty petty.

Is this all we have, America?  For real?

That this is even a matter of public debate makes me want to spew chum.

I heard Trump say this (or the gist of it) the other day on some TV show on CNN International:

"We've got some of the smartest people in the world at our banks on Wall Street, and they can help put people back to work".

Goodness.

The man has about as parochial view of the world as can be.  Have him draw a map of the world, indeed the Universe, and New York City would occupy 90% of the land surface, Trump properties 75% of that, and the US overall 95% of the planet.  His vision doesn't even stretch as far as his comb-over.

For reasonable people all this should be enough to disqualify him.  For the general electorate, who needs a simpler reason to vote against someone, we can hope that they will take exception to his hair, marital record, or the fact that his mug looks as if he's sniffing some bad cheese.

The PTB pretend to be saving the sheep from their own stupidity, by selling them into debt slavery.

It's a high tech form of a historically familiar pattern.

Hello everyone!

I am new to this blog though I have been reading it for a few years. I never felt particularly competent to post anything, so I have remained on the sidelines. Having hung out here for awhile, I have enjoyed the interesting array of mindsets, wit, and sarcasm as everyone must also, unless they are into sado-masochism.  As one approaching his elder years, one thing that immediately caught my eye was the expression “bitchez”, which seems to be a variant Ebonics spelling. This may be common usage among the younger folks today, but I have been in a mode where I do not have cause or opportunity to interact    much with youth today. If I post I will try to keep it short in the beginning, so as not to consume anyone's attention span for any longer than the post may be worth. I think this video is very representative of my generation. With that, my first post, is”

"but I feel I should be able to" == entitlement.

I have a two-car tandem garage in which my wife and I park our cars every night.

My next door neighbor has the same garage, but he has his filled with crap...and so insists on parking his two SUVS and two cars (for two adults in the household) along the street in front of his house, in his driveway, in front of his driveway, and in front of my house.

We have similar rules about parking for more than 3 days in the same spot, so I always laugh when I see the idiots 'rotating' their fleet to avoid the ticket and have more than once considered hurling a cinder block through their windshields when the alarms go off in the cars they aren't using while they're out driving the other ones.

Yes, the tiny fascism of local revenue generation is a bitch, but it's people like my dumbass neighbor that they're targeting, not you.

Before 1935 the VAST majority of Americans were dirt poor, worked long hours for less than subsistence wages and were subject to horrible workplace hazards. Child labor was legal. Striking union workers and their families were shot by corporate-employed militia. A significant percent of WW draftees were ineligible because of malnutrition related health problems. That was the “free market” before FDR.

So the living standards of the rest of the world hasn't improved since 1935? All improvements in quality of life in America since 1935 can be directly traced to FDR's policies? Didn't all of the technological improvements come from private individuals? Even the ones the government invented were funded by taxes from private individuals. If you want to see the standard of living when the government is in control, take a look at life in Cuba now or the USSR in the past.

Wasn't quality of life better in 1935 than it was in 1835? FDR and his socialist policies didn't exist, so what gives?

Well,  easy to get things that do not add up when you make them not to.

Everyone was fleeing? Nope. Quite a number was pushed out of Europe. They were simply no longer welcomed in Europe and had to move elsewhere.

There is where it cant add up.

Quite a lot of people, quite a lot of people. Europe was already engaged in waste economy on a large scale, which left that part of the world with a too much of people that was poured on some other parts of the world in order to avoid domestic unrest.

They did not only go to the US. They went to many other places in the world. They went to South America. They went to Canada. They went to Africa and they went to Asia.

At the beginning of the 19th, the pc of immigrated people peaked at the world scale.

So the living standards of the rest of the world hasn't improved since 1935? All improvements in quality of life in America since 1935 can be directly traced to FDR's policies?

Wasn't quality of life better in 1935 than it was in 1635? FDR and his socialist policies didn't exist, so what gives?

The developed world has stopped thinking and feeling. Comfortable, lazy, content, distracted by easy entertainment and toys, easy food and clothes, lack of fear of life. Fat lazy rabbits are the easy to catch and skin. Brainwashed by a concentrated and captured media, freedoms taken inch by inch by inch through one trick or another..... then one day they find the people controling the whole system have become their masters.

Countries with limited freedoms treasure the smallest as it were the large. Egypt replaces a dictator with a military regeim. Doesn't seem that great, but to them it is an improvement, one little extra freedom, one little bit of extra power shown in the people.

The developed world had all the freedoms necessary to keep themsleves free...but they let the tools rust in the shed...and it started a long time ago.

RAH had something about not making it legal, but a misdemeanor like 'discharging a firearm within the city limits.'

“   Those who refuse to support and defend a state have no claim to protection by that state.  Killing an anarchist or a pacifist should not be defined as ‘murder’ in a legalistic sense.  The offense against the state, if any, should be ‘Using deadly weapons inside city limits,’ or “Creating a traffic hazard,’ or ‘Endangering bystanders,’ or other misdemeanor.
However, the state may reasonably place a closed season on these exotic asocial animals whenever they are in danger of becoming extinct.  An authentic buck pacifist has rarely been seen off Earth and it is doubtful that any have survived the trouble there … regrettable, as they had the biggest mouths and smallest brains of any of the primates.”

8=] No..Pan....no silver spoon. I can't claim to have had a particularly hard life either though. 35 years in a shit hole heavy metal manufacturing environment, non union, no $$, much unpaid overtime. Reconstructive lower limb surgery in late fifties. While on disability insurance I received a letter out of the blue from corporate stating per company policy I had been administratively terminated. When my recovery was complete and I ended the insurance claim, the company said I had quit! And I...what about this letter? Unemployment claim was skewered by this and the later claim to the state unemployment office that I was unable to work. There is no question that big business and state unemployment offices work hand in hand to deny benefits. With some congressional help (who says we don't have representatives) I received benefits. 8=] Thank you all.

Frugal living throughout life, gave me a recently paid off small (1950's) house in a nice neighborhood and no debt with the exception of a monumental, in my view, parent plus loan. Death or flight is the only way out of a student loan today, as many of you know. I expect to win on this one! The company pension was morphed and evaporated away to a pittance of it's former glory. I had saved about 200 thou in my 401k when the end came. This should last me for quite a while at my current level of expenditure. I have cut all extravagances like cell phone and cable tv and bought a wood stove. By standards today, maybe I did have a silver spoon, because youth today is totally screwed, no question about that. I never rose high enough on the socio-economic scale to get my hands on the controls to run the economy into the ground, but if I did I think perhaps the first thing I would do is give myself a bonus before hitting earth. It's the American way, eh? So fuck you Pan and the baby boomers!

In a sense, yes.

There are plenty of jobs available for people with degrees (even BAs) going unfilled right now while construction workers grow angry about using SNAP to feed their kids because we don't need more houses during a bust.

I have a great deal of sympathy; my father was an apprentice carpenter when I was born and I believe those guys are highly-skilled despite lack of recognition on a piece of paper. A well-made cabinet with nice dovetail joints and drawers that slide smooth is a thing of pure beauty.

I spent a summer in retail when I was a teen and saw how tenuous the positions of the adults I worked with really were. It was great inspiration to do something else (computer-aided drafting, in my case) so I wouldn't end up like them.

Is it fair that the banksters blew a bubble that popped? No, but you can curse the darkness...or light a candle.
