Zero Hedge Video Analysis Reveals Paintball Guns, Secret Turkish Weapon

Marla Singer's picture

Tellingly, a number of commentators on the recent "Gaza Flotilla" kerfuffle, including some right here on Zero Hedge, appear to have fallen prey to the seductive wiles of the Palestinian (and now Turkish) propaganda ministry, painting the Israeli Defense Forces as a "go in guns blazing" murder squad victimizing a few, poor, international protesters on an innocent blockade runner on a diplomatic mission that absolutely, positively did not intercept those transmissions.  True, it seemed quite unlikely that the IDF would board a blockade runner ("Darth Vader.  Only you could be so bold.") with just paintball guns, but exclusive Zero Hedge analysis can now reveal that not only did IDF forces board the Mavi Marmara with sidearms holstered and only paint ball guns as their primary weapons, but, in what must be the most significant Israeli intelligence failure in decades, they were unwittingly lured into facing a historic and potent enemy they could not hope to vanquish with colored ink.

We refer, of course, to Turkish cavalry.

While surely unconventional to deploy at sea, Turkish cavalry has commanded fear and respect since the Battle of Bapheus in 1302, and, in more contemporary times, in the Greco-Turkish war between 1919 and 1922, most notably in the Battle of Dumlup?nar, finally vanquishing the Greek presence in Anatolia.

Indeed, had we not seen the video with our own eyes, it would be difficult to credit the addition of Marine Cavalry units to the asymmetric order of battle facing the IDF, but the video evidence is incontrovertible.  Our frame by frame analysis of IDF provided video clearly shows the presence of feared Turkish Marine Cavalry on board the Mavi Marmara.

Marla's pseudo-intellectualism finally gets exposed. True intellect is like water, in the end it always finds its own level.

Pseudo-intellectualism I can live with, I have gotten used it on this site, what I find disgusting is the complete insensitivity to the loss of innocent life. You missed your calling Marla, you should have enlisted in the US Army.

With respect to those offended by this, if I want my content filtered by some greater moral authority i will go back to CNBC, CNN, FT etc.

If you're offended by this fine, its your right, I like zerohedge because it treats me like an adult who can work out what he wants to view and Marla can do whatever she wants in my book, or maybe she should run things by you first to see if you're ok with it? After all its just a little censorship right? Just a little sensitivity required then you'd approve after all...

So with respect to your opinion and reaction to this article, i don't care if you're offended and feel free to exercise your option not to log in tomorrow.

Marla, rock on girl.

I'd feel better about this if the Israeli forces didn't jam all communication.  The only version / video we'll get is what the IDF will allow out, and their history of selectiveness is well known to fall dramtically in the camp of save Israel at all costs.  Of course, that is their Job.

Let the sun shine in. Unless, of course, what you're up to is perhaps not really sunshine, but the other.

The piece is insensitive.  It reflects the author's lack of concern over human rights abuses and war crimes.

This is not conjecture.

Why does it matter if its insensitive? Why does she have to care about human rights abuses and war crimes? Cant' she make up her own mind on the matter? Who are you to judge?

On the flip side you're free to express your displeasure in any way you want. But calls that she shouldn't have posted it piss me off.

She can post anything she wants, and you can self regulate by not coming back to this site if you find enough of the content offensive.

Never bring a paintball gun to a ...

I was very upset by the actions of the ID one time and my father (who served in Korea) asked me if I had ever been surronded by people attempting to kill me. when I said no he then told me to shut the fuck up.

Meaning: It is hard for me to say something whe I have never experienced being in that situation. Some things become clear though.

1) it would appear the incident was a kind of set up for the IDF to influence world opinion.

2)regardless of one's view it would appear the IDF attempted to limit the loss of life. after all they could have just sunk the ships. We kill with drones without  a foot on the ground, so This is clearly the more humane way of action.

3)I don't think there is an answer to the problem. some leadership of the palestinian people depend on their oppression to remain in power. hence they want to keep the siutaion unstable. Many regimes in the arab world use the irsael palestine problem as an excuse to keep their own people oppressed. In effect I believe we create an "enemy" to justify our military budget.

4) When Israel goes into Gaza to stop the rockets they get hammered as causing genocide. if this is the case then a blockade is justified. You can't hamstring the actions one way then not allow others. I try to imagine if we had hostile forces on ur boarder and how we would react. I don't think the US would show much restraint.

5) let us not forget that britian did block access to palestine themselves. they prevented victoms of pogroms from entering palestines, boarded ships, and killed people.

6) I aks that people look into the context of their entire world view. Is your country's hand clean, and have you endorsed actions of your own authorites for more disturbing things whie lashing out at other country's

7) I make no position of right or wrong on the episode. I do ask that people attempt to be consistent in their analysis.  I am glad I don't have to board vessels at sea with hostiles on board with a paint ball gun. I am fairly sure if I had a gun and there was a mob of people attacking me I would have pulled it and used it if I believed my life to be in danger. regardless if I was given permission to do so by my higher ups.

Stay consistent pan.  This conversation is about how you defend your bedroom when the rapist is coming to you.  The conversation is not about you being the rapist and intruding into someone else's bedroom.  Saying that one has a right to do whatever it takes to defend their front door is not the same as saying that one has the right to try to breach someone else's front door.  But then, I think you already understand this.

Problem is for Israel, and always will be, is that it is (and always will be) a Colony of mostly Europeans (and Russians and Americans) established in 1949, a time when Colonialism just about clearly on the way out.   60 year old colonies?  Based on religion (and functionally race)?  The moderate Zionists of the early 20th century saw this problem head on, but were over-ridden by the more radical types who themselves used terorism to found their nation.  Good luck with this as a legacy, and for land that is basically barren.  Will always be a $$$ drain.

2000 year old biblical era claims to property?  Hell, the Romans owe me (via my ancestors) some property Europe.  (E.G. Lunatic Fat Chance I'll be getting any)

8) The US uses the Israel/Palestine"problem" as a way to keep its foot in the Middle East so it can always claim a legitimate reason to be invading this Arab country or that.

9) Maybe it's time to question why, again, Israel feels a need to keep 1.5 million people penned up like animals in a small strip of land.

10) People undereducated in the manner shouldn't make bullet lists displaying their ignorance for all to see.  When you attempt to rationalize the irrational then you really don't understand the issue and should not attempt to comment until you've done the requisite research.

I find the ignorance here appalling.  Israel is blockading the Hamas Government in Gaza. As is Egypt.  The blockade is to prevent arms from being shipped to Hamas. The "humanitarians" were offered safe passage of their "aide" providing that it was inspected.  They refused.  They were told if they where to try to get the "aide" to Gaza, they would be stopped.  This is nothing more than a media stunt ala Greenpeace, set up to make Isreal look bad.

It looks to me like a lotta sheeple bought into the sharade, or is that "Shareaide".

The israelis will confiscate the aid.  It may not surprise you to learn that many people in Gaza are maimed for life.  Of these men women and children who have been maimed by israeli-fired munitions, some can not walk, have no legs.  The boats were carrying mechanized wheelchairs.  The israelis will  say ... these have military application!!

And will not allow them in.

I think PVC for sewage and water are also disallowed.

Yes they could get cement if the israelis issue a permit for an approved project.  The catch is the duplicitous israelis sit on the permits.  It's a form of slow torture.

I think we've seen how Israel offers safe passage of aide into Gaza. The Arab children fantacize about drinking clean water everyday while they shoot at unarmed Palestinians who come within a half mile of the Israel border.  That's what the Israeli government terms "safe passage"

Same reason blacks abuse within thier family because when really horrible things happen to people they tend to propagate it to a different target. Surprise you do something horrible to a large group of people and it doesn't just end. But instead of the original abuser being targeted it somehow get's dealt with by a completely different group or back at the original members of the group.

The gaza strip should have JP Morgan and a few other bankers who were spending 20 billion a day buying weapons for hitler to run around and hurt people. But instead it has palestines who did nothing.

I'm not really sure I understand the point you're trying to make here.  Sending a bunch of Sending commandos armed with paintball guns and orders not to shoot onto a ship full of hostiles is clearly idiotic.  You'd have to have rocks for brains (as all politicians do) to order anyone to do that.  Similarly, you have to be a full-on fanatic freak to actually follow those idiotic orders.  The whole incident seems designed from the beginning to cause an escalation in force.

What it all comes down to is a battle between tribes.  If your tribe isn't brutal enough, it will lose to one that is.

Come on people, are you all really buying the absurd paintball story?  I don't believe there is any military/police force in the world equipped with airsoft much less the IDF.  It's patently ridiculous.  A large number of people on board that vessel were shot and killed, supposedly by the soldiers side arms after their paintball guns proved (surprisingly?) ineffective for crowd control.  LOL.  Marla's piece is not insensitive, she is merely meeting monumental absurdism with its equal.

That's like saying because I didn't vote (I no longer consent to be governed) I have to shut the fuck up on politics for the next four years.

Total War because of some joke rockets that hit random spots of dirt most of the time? Intentional use of white phosphorus on a civilian population - how can their be any justification whatsoever? They attacked UN structures. "Oops! But we have a right to exist!"

We do have hostile forces on our border and they flow almost freely with their drugs into every corner of this country. US border enforcement is hilarious.

I do not endorse the mass murderers in DC - I am not responsible for what the military-industrial complex does.

I am fairly sure if I had a gun and there was a mob of people attacking me I would have pulled it and used it if I believed my life to be in danger.

This wasn't self-defense. It was piracy and the people on board had the right to repel the IDF by any means necessary. And doing so resulted in the same lop-sided result of civilian casualties. "We have a right to exist!"

It's not like speaking about the incident with kid gloves gives any more credence to any side of any argument.  There is not a winner here. Neither Israel nor Turkey, nor palestinians can call this a victory.

Yeah! The Captain of the Fortilla held the rope.

It doesn't take much intelligence to see reality. Israel gave instruction to the Flotilla as to where to unload their cargo, however the Captain of the Flotilla self willed it, and the Flotilla paid the consequences, but only after the Commando's were attacked with clubs, knives, and guns.

People can do anything they want if they are willing to pay the consequences.

You cannot always protect stupidity especially when it involves bad decision making.

Intelligence is over rated, especially when it trumps common sense.

Eyewitnesses recount Israel flotilla raid (June 1, 2010 - CNN)

Hanin Zoabi, a member of the Israeli parliament, was on board the Miva Marmara, the ship that was the scene of a confrontation between activists and Israeli soldiers. That clash left at least nine people dead.

The Israeli Navy fired on the ships five minutes before commandos descended from ropes that dangled from helicopters, Zoabi said during a press conference in Nazareth, Israel. She said passengers on board the ship were unarmed.

---

Zoabi said she believes Israel has video footage of how the ten passengers were killed, and she called on Israeli authorities to release that footage.

I'll leave your total failure to grasp even the most basic tenants of logical argument for a later date.

Hey, I'll happily grasp those tenants if you'll tell me where they live. If you're talking about the tenets of an argument - well, that's something else altogether.

But seriously - according to the Jewish Encyclopedia, there were about 13 million total Jews in the world in 2006. Let's be generous, and say they were off by about 100%, and there's actually 25 million Jews.

That's less than 1/4 of 1% of the people in the world. I'm not anti-Semitic; I'm Semitic-weary.Why does every newspaper, every news broadcast, every blog have to lead with whatever trials and tribulations the Jews faced today? I mean, 83 people die in a train wreck in India, and it gets a paragraph in my local broadsheet. A "suicide donkey" gets blown up in Israel (with no casualties), and it gets three columns. It's like the boy who cried "Wolf" - after a while, the rest of us just stop listening.

Sure, I support Israel, and the right of the Jews to a homeland. I don't support discrimination against Jews, any more than I support it against any other group. I am appalled that Western governments look the other way when Muslims screech "Death to Israel", and quail when the same Muslims utter death threats against people who draw cartoons, but are ready to charge people with hate speech for pointing out that most terrorists are Muslims (for example, google Mark Steyn, Ezra Levant and the Canadian Human Rights Commission). But in the name of the 99.75% of humanity who aren't Jewish, would you please STFU already?!

What if Mexico were lobbing rockets for months/years at San Antonio schools and the gov't funding terrorist groups dedicated to the murder of our citizens?  I'm sure we'd just file a protest with the UN or blockade their shores - but only within 3 miles of our coast - right??

Those iron rods that hamas was beating the troops with - were they iron rods of PEACE??  How come only  the ship with the hamas members was a problem, the other 3 there was no violence?

1) The sponsor of the Flotilla:

http://www.terrorism-info.org.il/malam_multimedia/English/eng_n/html/ham...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IHH_%28%C4%B0nsani_Yard%C4%B1m_Vakf%C4%B1%2...

2) You can't crash a checkpoint or blockade. Israel gave them the option of being escorted to the Israeli port of Ashdod, and the aid delivered to Gaza overland by the UN, or or being overtaken by Israeli commandos.  The Flotilla chose the latter because the aid was not the point, bullrushing the blockade was.

3) Israel isn't so crass as to allow the ship to cross the international line, and risk exponentially more casualties, so as to avoid the inevitable outcry.Waiting until the legalities were lined up, (i.e. they were 50 miles closer) would've put passengers and troops at risk. Boarding a ship like that in daylight is insanity, and they'd have had to use even more force. If 19 were killed under the best of circumstances (surprise raid, cover of darkness, etc), then WTF do you think would happen if they had had advance warning, and the advantage of light? They used less than lethal force UNTIL THEY WERE ATTACKED WITH LETHAL FORCE. At which point, they did the best anyone could do in that situation.

Seriously, you have no idea how an op like this works, or what the soldiers were up against, or how much restraint they actually did show. Any other navy would've given a warning, fired one across the bow, then gone full hog.

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3896796,00.html

http://breakingnews.gaeatimes.com/2010/05/28/israeli-gunships-head-to-se...

4) Additionally, the Schalit family (who's son was kidnapped over 3 years ago, and held in Gaza) asked the Flotilla organizers to press Hamas to allow them access to their son, and in return the Schalit family would press the Israeli gov't to allow the flotilla to pass. The Flotilla organizers refused.

Israel boarded as they said they would, got attacked, and Israel brought the ship to Ashdod. The ships occupants refused to disboard, so they were removed, and Israel is transferring the aid to Gaza. What more do you want? If the Palestinians stopped illegally trying to import arms via sea, a la the Karine A, and would give some hard data as to Schalit's condition, Israel would lift the blockade.

Judge - don't get your panties in a bunch.

With a single foolish move, the Israeli cabinet cast the Muslim Brotherhood in the role of the victim and the Israel Navy as the villain and simultaneously opened European, Turkish, Arab, Palestinian and internal Israeli fronts. In so doing, Israel is serving Hamas' interests better than Hamas itself has ever done.

BiM - I've seen this argument before.  [Missing Link comes to mind.]

As you are self-identified as a financial-guy here's my question for you.  How do you eliminate, ignore political/state actions when government has become/is the economy?

What we call the economy has become an artifact of central planning.  How do you 'do finance' and ignore the central planning management?

How do charts work when policy trumps all charts?  How are those Chrystler bond holders doing?  Do you think they maybe wish they had a better handle on what the state was up to?  I bet they do.

So, it must be nice to live in your walled off econo-world.  My question is how do you do it?  How do you impose these blinders on yourself and still make it work for you?

Nice try at shifting the scope of my argument. Of course, some financial topics have political implications, but, this is a specific issue, the Israeli/Palistianian conflict that has been debated to death on countless political sites.

I can tell you exactly how it will go here:

The Pro-Palestine side will cite that Israel was created illegally, and that Zionists control the the U.S Government and everything else for that that matter. 9-11, Lincoln assasination, dinosaur extinction are all Zionist plots.

The Pro-Israeli side will counter with the argument that if Israel didn't defend itself, there would be another Holocaust in the Middle-east. The saying "Finish the job that Hitler started" will be invoked early and often.

When all is said and done (an oxy-moron in this case) nothing will be settled and no opinions will be changed.
