Obama Claims More Tyrannical Powers Than Hitler or Stalin

George Washington's picture

By Washington’s Blog

Former judge and adjunct professor of constitutional law Andrew Napolitano pointed out in March that the president's claim that he can indefinitely detain prisoners - even after they are acquitted of their crimes - is a power that even Hitler and Stalin didn't claim:

(While I strongly dislike Fox News and its barrage of disinformation, Judge Napolitano knows his constitutional law, and gives very hard-hitting analysis of the current state of the rule of law in America.)

Similarly, Chris Floyd wrote Monday in connection with the new indefinite detention bill:

And whatever the outcome of this particular bill, the reality will remain the same: the President of the United States will continue to claim — and exercise — absolute arbitrary power over the life [yes, the government has also claimed the power to assassinate American citizens without trial or even oversight] and liberty of every person on earth. As we’ve said here before, not even Adolf Hitler or Josef Stalin at their most megalomaniacal ever dreamed of asserting the kind of universal power now asserted by American presidents and the lickspittlish lackeys in the United States Congress.

In case you think I'm being hard on Obama, please remember that progressive constitutional lawyer Glenn Greenwald has long argued that Obama is even more brutal than Bush, and has trashed even more of the Constitution than Bush.

Of course, Obama - like Bush - claims that tyrannical measures are necessary to fight the war on terror. But FBI agents and CIA intelligence officials, constitutional law expert professor Jonathan Turley, Time Magazine, Keith Olbermann and the Washington Post have all said that U.S. government officials “were trying to create an atmosphere of fear in which the American people would give them more power”, and even former Secretary of Homeland Security – Tom Ridge – admits that he was pressured to raise terror alerts to help Bush win reelection.

And Hitler, Stalin and other strongmen throughout history have also claimed that tyrannical measures were necessary to fight their wars on terror:

“This and no other is the root from which a tyrant springs; when he first appears he is a protector.”
- Plato

“If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.”
- U.S. President James Madison

“Terrorism is the best political weapon for nothing drives people harder than a fear of sudden death”.
- Adolph Hitler

“Why of course the people don’t want war … But after all it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship … Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”
- Hermann Goering, Nazi leader.

“The easiest way to gain control of a population is to carry out acts of terror. [The public] will clamor for such laws if their personal security is threatened”.
- Josef Stalin

First Tea Party rally I went to there were conservatives, libertarians, liberals...all pissed off that the government was taking away property rights, fourth amendment rights, bailing out corporations (stealing from taxpayers), and becoming fascist/communist (whatever label you want, we need a new label for what we have).

Since then, myopic press has made Tea Party "conservative" and Occupy Wall Street "liberal" so they can discredit both along with the realistic concerns of citizens.

Local police are breaking into homes without a warrant or probable cause.

The real terrorists are in Washington and on Wall street.

An online bud of mine sent this to me so please permit me to reprint it:

When Obama first campaigned for the presidency, he positioned himself as the defender of the American worker.

Today, Obama is once again campaigning for the presidency, this time for reelection, and once again he positions himself as the defender of the American worker.

So what’s Obama been doing the last three years in office?

Recently, Obama actively supported, and signed, three more “free trade” agreements, conceived and written by the Bush Administration, to further offshore American jobs and aid in job creation overseas instead of in America.

At every opportunity, Obama has been working on behalf of Wall Street and Republican agendas, undermining Social Security, appointing as FCC chair an AT&T lobbyist who had aided in writing both NAFTA and the Telecommunications Act of 1996, which effectively negated any possibility of a free press.

One of Obama’s first appointments to his economic advisory council was the non-economist and number one American jobs offshoring evangelist, Diana Farrell.

Obama’s appointment as his job creation czar was the number two American jobs offshorer and corporate tax evader, Jeffrey Immelt, CEO of GE.

Going for strike three, Obama appointed the number three jobs offshoring evangelist, Jim Kobe, as a trade representative.

Obama has successfully put together a 100% neocon administration.

His appointments to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) have successfully altered and undermined regulations to roll back workers’ rights, environmental rights and greatly favor Wall Street over the American worker.

Obama has pursued, and jailed, more whistleblowers than all previous US presidents combined.

Obama has ignored due process and habeas corpus at every opportunity.

Obama has expanded various Bush policies, including the most egregious “preemptive arrests” of activists; straight out of old Soviet totalitarianism!

The one bright and brief moment in Obama’s presidency, when he vetoed the Senate’s cowardly and criminal unanimous voice vote to grant blanket immunity to crimes committed by the bankers, which was quickly dispelled when his administration most stealthily and quietly created a 50-state attorneys general committee to grant that very same immunity.

A common Obama Administration ploy:  stealthily doing the opposite of what they voice publicly.

Obama has continued the Bush bailout of the banksters and was responsible for  the backdoor bailout of the health insurance industry.

We have witnessed Obama’s almost endless appointments of Wall Street lobbyists, pharmaceutical industry lobbyists, Monsanto lobbyists and telecom lobbyists to circumvent network neutrality.

Obama has been as silent on card check – the right of workers to organize – as he was on the public option, and his administration adamantly refused to even remotely consider single payer on his so-called healthcare reform.

Obama, after nauseating real democrats with his constant admiration for neocon Ronald Reagan, is suddenly embracing Teddy Roosevelt!

Sorry, Mr. President, but last-minute posturing as a populist doesn’t erase your record against the American worker and citizenry, and consistent support of the Wall Street and Republican agenda.

A president appoints those people who support his platform, just as he fires those who do not.

When President John F. Kennedy fired people, he fired the right ones:  Allen Dulles, Richard Bissell, Charles Cabell and ultra-rightwing generals from the military.

And who did President Obama fire?

Vann Jones – the green jobs man

Susan Crawford – advocate for network neutrality, the last vestige of a free press

Shirley Sherrod – not even a presidential appointee, but an employee with the Department of Agriculture and small farmer advocate

It’s time for a real democrat in the White House!

There has never once been a "real democrat" in the White House.

C orporate

T ool

he's the trojan horse, the virus that invades your immune system and destroys you.

He's not a very nice man.

Ron Paul with all his warts makes Obama look like a corrupt asshole harvard lawyer, but then pretty much anyone makes obama look like a corrupt asshole harvard lawyer. In any case I'd rather Ron Paul was running the ship of state aground, at least he's got good intentions and understands finance and medicine and congress. Oh and he supports that other thing, the antique that is the basis of all our laws and our nation, The Constitution.

I like Judge Naplitano as well, one of the few willing to speak up in a government of liars and thieves and clerks.

Coldsun's picture

Well at least we don't have to worry as Obama is not a Strongman in any form. The strongmen are the ones controlling the string on our useless puppet president.

But seriously, the power grab over the past 80-100 years by our government is disgusting. Tyranny is tyranny no matter what color their party is. All they are doing is boiling the frogs, slowly turning up the heat so the frog doesn't realize it.

YearZero Institute's picture

What powers did Johnson have when your security services shot dead Black Panther Fred Hampton while he slept?

What powers did Ford's CIA have when they gave a list of 250,000 socialists to Surhato of Indonesia who extermineated each and every one?

What powers did the US have when it invaded Panama and slaughtered 3,500 civilians? (And ransacked the Nicaraguan embassy)

What powers did Nixon and Kissinger have to kill 5.4mn Vietnamese, Cambodians and Laotians? (US state dept figures)

You idiots think the US was a benign power? When?

You kill people, torture people, rape kids kill them and piss on their bodies (Haditha). You are barbarians who make decent cartoons.

Bring the Gold's picture

What's funny is the hated "lefties" were the ones who protested and fought against all of those things. What's horrifying the "righties" now is that those same strong armed tactics are being turned, as the inevitiably would be if they were allowed to be used abroad, on the "homeland". Nowadays white men who are christian can be murdered as easily as black men who are muslim or communist. They basically didn't give a shit until their ass was on the line. First they came for the communists and I said nothing...

The power of the compartmentalization of knowledge and the power of Classifying everything secret. With those tools alone the government can do just about anything it wants to.

Thank Harry Truman for our bounty.

Excellent points, YearZero Institute, the Financial-Intelligence Complex has been running things in America for many, many decades indeed!

TheMerryPrankster's picture

Although it's perfectly fair to call Barack Obama an empty suit and a manufactured product, that's what Presidents have always been. The Truman Doctrine was entirely the work of George Kennan, and Truman introduced it with a famous speech he didn't write. Once the Doctrine was actually implemented, George Kennan immediately disowned it and became a vocal critic. (Fast forward two terms and you've got Eisenhower warning about a Military Industrial Complex. Kennedy later delivered a strange speech about Secret Societies that's also essential reading.)

I thought that totalitarian american government had reached a high point with WMD farce, clash of civilization crusade in Iraq, and patriot's act against 'heretics'. We were perfectly matched with the Saint Louis Crusade days; Knights Templars as ethnic cleansers abroad doing God's work and the brotherhood of white friars doing God's work at home against heretics armed with the Inquisition, old Patriot's Act.

We haven't got rid of Patriot's Act or Guantanamo, which is Montsegur resuscitated, and now we add the Gulag regime?

Wow, this guy has GWB, modern Saint Louis, checkmated!

The judge had John Bolton on his show last night.  I fought off the urge the vomit and listened to the piece.  Seemed to me like the Judge gave bolton a free pass to spout blatent fascist propaganda.   Times like that make it clear that the Judge, whom I believe is a straight shooter, needs to get the hell off the fox network.

If Obama had more tyrannical power than Hitler or Stalin then you would be dead.

 a) The Obama administration has the power, and claims the right to imprison or assassinate anyone, anywhere.

b) The Obama administration clearly practices that power abroad. It is foolish to believe what is practiced abroad can be kept separated from what will be practiced at home.

c) The current Obama administration claims the right  for the government to use those powers. Whatever the current administration may do with that asserted right domestically, some subsequent adminstration will one day assuredly employ those alleged "rightful" powers.

He does, he has yet chosen to use it.Why are some of you thinking because he's not USED it yet, HE will not?.

Why are they all pointed at we the people, the rightful owners of the government?

"Terrorism is the best political weapon for nothing drives people harder than a fear of sudden death."  Mark Weber (1985) in Rauschning's Phony Conversations With Hitler writes, "This quote is based on two invented remarks in Hermann Rauschning's mendacious book, The Voice of Destruction."

If he happened to say anything of the sort he was likely referring to the international plutocrats, the bolsheviks, or the WZO.

damned right the indonesian citizen is the tyrannical lackey of the plutocratic elite....he is NOT a naturally born usa citizen, he was born in kenya/africa, circumvented immigration when he came to the usa c. 1970/71, and is the butcher of world....

that he is a megalomaniac tyrant is without question. but remember for whom he works....my guess is that he is the antichrist who will turn on his masters but that is a development waiting confirmation.

he is above an absolute and complete liar.

IQ 101

Don't have to, got a guarantee.

alien-IQ's picture

of course you do. why would an invisible man in the sky lie? right?

buyingsterling's picture

He has no guarantee. The only thing you can count on is love. Everything else lets you down. Only love sacrifices and suffers for you, everything else is mostly self-interest of one kind or another. If there is a Creator who made us or made the system that made us possible, we may be irrelevant to him, but more likely, He made us for a reason, and one doesn't have to look to religion to see what it might be. There is only one thing the Creator can't have without something like Man: meaningful love. He can create something of beauty and wonder, like a galaxy, or a dog, but to love them would be self-love, like an artist adoring his artwork. Only an intelligent being with free will can choose to suffer and even die for the sake of another - a necessary and sufficient condition for the presence of love is the willingness to suffer for another. Intelligent beings can even choose to love one another unconditionally. We see this rarely, more often it's known only to those involved, but unconditional love - love given without expectation of receiving anything in return, and sealed with a willingness to sacrifice everything for another - does exist among people, and it's unlikely that we have exceeded our Creator's capacity to love.

It's my belief that we are in fact one family, with one father, who, like some fathers, loves all of his children unconditionally. Like the rays of the sun, His love comes to each of us in equal measure; whether we recognize it, accept it, and return it is up to us. He doesn't 'send' any of us to hell; we leave this material plane with the mindset we built up while we were here. If we find hell, it will be because we have chosen to divorce ourselves from the source of all. Hell may be simple 'mundanity', a relentless search for meaning in all of the wrong places. If hell lasts forever, it can only be because pride is indomitable.

alien-IQ's picture

why are people so obsessed with his being from Kenya or a Muslim or whatever the fuck? Why does that even matter?

As far as being a megalomaniac...what's so new about that? Isn't everyone in politics, especially anyone who runs for president, a megalomaniac? Isn't that somewhat of a prerequisite? Would a normal person not possessing such attributes ever arrive at the conclusion that they should rule the world?

KickIce's picture

Well, according to the Constitution we should elect a natural born megalomaniac.  It would be nice to see the document followed on occasion.

Bring the Gold's picture

Oh right that document that Republicans and Democrats BOTH have been dismantling since 1863? Why until president Zero came along the best Constitutional hatchetmen were born and bred White American Males and Republicans to boot! Namely Nixon, Reagan, HW Bush and George W Bush. Of course Roosevelt, Johnson and Wilson all pitched in to make sure the Democrat wing of the Banker party did their part to pitch in. All those guys were white christian dudes born in the US and...they went right after the Constitution. The whole Kenyan thing is garbage. It's just Racism and I fucking hate Obama and want him out more than anything, but who gives a shit I mean really? If he had come in and rolled back the Patriot Act and disolved the FED I wouldn't give a shit. Contrarywise as he has come in and done far, FAR more damage to the constitution via executive orders and husbanding legislation through congress it's his legal plays that are more concerning by FAR than whether he is a Kenyan. Again, Bush was as whitebread as they come and he was the most anti-constitutional fuck to ever disgrace the Oval office until Obummer came along. What difference does it make I mean really? If anything if somehow we get through this nightmare with a constitutional government hanging by a thread AND its discovered that Obama isn't a citizen then we can immediately make all his Executive Orders and signed laws and take them off the books as illegal. If anything it would be a BLESSING at this point if he was Kenyan. Regardless of his national orgin he is a fucktard menace to this country.

KickIce's picture

As long as he's a natural born US citizen.

buyingsterling's picture

Obama probably isn't the antichrist. If there is one, he does come as a man, but he's seen as a god. That happens because things are SO BAD that no one knows what to do. When the man appears who offers what appear to be workable solutions, he's seen as a god, but not until his ideas work. That's how bad things have to get first. You - and you, and you - are going to think this person is a god.

You can take God out of it, and it's still prescient: flawed human nature combined with specialization and complexity seem to make something like this somewhat inevitable (though more likely, no one comes along with any 'solution'.)
