Only days after finishing its last wargames in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has announced another set of wargames in February.
WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
Looking behind the headlines:
- The people pushing for war against Iran are the same neocons who pushed for war against Iraq. See this and this.
- China and Russia have warned that attacking Iran could lead to World War III.
- War against Iran was planned at least 20 years ago.
- The U.S. has been claiming for more than 30 years that Iran was on the verge of nuclear capability (and the U.S. apparently helped fund the Iranian nuclear program.)
- The sinking of the USS Maine, the Gulf of Tonkin incident, and other justifications for past wars have turned out to be false. Similarly, a number of high-level intelligence officials and politicians have said that the U.S. would fake a provocation and blame it on Iran as a casus belli. For example, Ron Paul has warned of a “Gulf of Tonkin type incident” in Iran, and Pulitzer-prize winning investigative reporter Seymour Hersh says many ideas have been proposed for provoking a war, including building boats that look like Iranian boats, and then putting Navy Seals on them to “start a shoot-up”.
- The CIA admits that it hired Iranians in the 1950?s to pose as Communists and stage bombings in Iran in order to turn the country against its democratically-elected prime minister. Pulitzer-prize winning investigative reporter Seymour Hersh says that the Bush administration (and especially Dick Cheney) helped to fund terrorist groups within Iran (see confirming articles here and here). And the New York Times, Washington Post and others are reporting, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, former national security adviser Fran Townsend and former Attorney General Michael Mukasey – who all said that the terrorists were going to get us if we didn’t jettison the liberties granted under the Bill of Rights – are now supporting terrorists in Iran.

It is still likely that the Daring will sink, probably because the Windows 95 navigation system fails, steaming the doomed-from-the-outset ship onto a reef at full speed, or a manufacturing fault - defective O-ring permitting fuel vapour to leak into a cavity that shouldn't have been designed into the ship, but is there, and being ignited when midshipman BigEars and cadet Noddy sneak off for a bit of 'secret cavity' fun, decide on a bit of 420 to commence the naval tradition and make the mistake of using a hot flame over the cone.
Cadet Noddy and Midshipman BigEars will miraculously survive the conflagration and sinking, and will be court-marshalled..and freed on the grounds that a No-Smoking sign was not installed in the secret cavity as required by Naval Regulation 1488(2)b. their mates will regard them as heroes for getting off on a technicality.

Stating that it's better to "do it" now than suffer $250/bbl oil misses the entire reason why everyone's battling for oil- it's a depletable, non-renewable resource! NOTE: price is really pretty much moot given that everyone's massively in debt and you cannot push on a string: TPTB, the ones that are lusting after the oil, create the illusion that price matters (if the price is too high they kill jobs; if it is too low they create jobs- it's ONLY about their ability to control).
That the cost of oil WILL go up matters little whether there's a war or not, or who, in the end, controls what is left.
We will get to the cliff, and, most likely, go over it. Looking to kill a bunch of people along the way isn't something that I'd consider as a meaningful strategy (when it really won't affect the outcome).

Exactly! That's why I said in an other post that the US and its allies should only invade Iran's oil fields, one at a time, build pipelines to countries they already 'control', defend with MAX force, drain them then rinse & repeat. No need to invade the entire country.

The USS Cole incident was in response to the US GUNNING down an Iranian CIVILIAN jetliner (http://alt-f4.org/img/seaoflies.html)! (clearly noted as a mistake, yet, the military commanders and pilots received medals! if this had been Iran acting this way we'd have been completely outraged!) And, what the heck is the US doing running around there (after blowing up a CIVILIAN jetliner) with military vessels?
