Why are we bulldozing newly built homes in Chicago? Believe it or not it's not cheap to call in the bulldozer--but what about what's inside the house? Has a truer crime ever been committed?
OWS is a great movement. They may not be fully able to articulate their reasons. They just know something is wrong. If you could show them the effects of QE1 and QE2 on their savings and food prices. Keyesnian economics explains it all. Good for them. Sometimes the baby boomers forget their protests in the 60's. Be aware of "Black Flag" attempts to discredit their protests. This is not political. No sides. It is good to see the kids back out there! I'm sure the main street media will do everything possible to make them look like fools. Keep up the good work. There are many "Wall Street Guys" who know exactly what you are protesting. Gotta like thier spirit! Go gett'im Gen-xers:)
Sometimes the baby boomers forget their protests in the 60's
No they don't forget that shit cause the world revolves around baby boomer f***ktards and now theri kids. Kids like Obama's pal Bill Ayres who wanted to kill millions and did kill people and his rich leftist daddy got him off for murder. They 60's didn't prove anything except its all about ME. I want and you better give. These kids are cut from the same cloth - rabid consumers who want all the iGadgets, Starbux, nike and other crap plu free wi fi and facebook.
ALL the media and ALL TV is shit. You watch it then you are supporting the powers that be..
Just "knowing something is wrong" is an infantile response. Grown ups seek to understand the problem, not just whine about it. Frankly the OWS movement seems to be short of grownups.
You might do well to study how profoundly ineffective the protest movement of the 60s was. Forget the Hollywood glamorization-- the real results were nonexistent.
Lets hope the NYPD uses a high powered hose to flush that human filth into the Hudson tomorrow. Then they can serve arrest warrants on GS, JP Morgan, K street and the capital.
starting with you
"How can Satan drive out Satan?"
I don't suppose it would do any good to point out that the people of Egypt, Libya, and Syria were overwhelmingly demanding change from totalitatian regimes that had opressed then for, oh, decades? I don't think there is much of an equivalence here to the way the OWS protesters are being treated. Videos like this that invlite clear refutation with even a rudimentary analysis will just reinforce the stereotype that these people do not know what they are talking about.
The main reason I don't think this is helpful is because it does nothing to advance the message they should be advancing, which is to end the easy money for the banks, curtail the Fed at whose teat the banks have become fat, and rein in crony capitalism.
"the people of Egypt, Libya, and Syria were overwhelmingly demanding change"
Egypt, some. Syria, some more. Libya - not. Probably the best run country in Africa, one of the few whose infrastructure actually improved after the first wave of globalism. The only change any one of consequence wanted RE Libya was ownership of its resources.
President Puke said nothing when Iran was butchering people. Then he offered almost no pretext to conquer Libya. Nnow he's ready to strike Iran based on a botched phony stunt. At least he's consistent - consistently increasingly willing to kill people for the benefit of his owners.
And who will be left when "they" come for you?
Hold your fire there, Sparky. I didn't say they should not be protesting, just that their message has not been very clear. And the message that they are somehow equal to people who have been opressed by totalitarian regimes for decades is not very convincing.
There is, however, a clear and convincing case to be made against the Fed, against bailouts, against crony capitalism. How much more powerful would they be if they made that message clearly, in a way that would cut away divisions between 'Tea Party' and OWS and unite people against a common enemy? That's all I am hoping to see.
Your mission should not be to fire up somebody that agrees with you. Anybody can do that. Your mission should be to convince somebody who does not agree with you, or at least get them thinking.
"Your mission should be to convince somebody who does not agree with you, or at least get them thinking."
I've been trying that for years. At some point the time will come to choose sides.
You mistake trying to continue the conversation for choosing sides. I'm not talking about compromise, I am talking about making sure people know what really swept away their society, if that is its destiny. We owe that to the future if chaos is the path we must take.
"It means 'Buckle your seatbelt, because Kansas is goin' bye-bye'" -- Cypher, "The Matrix"
The Center (i.e., the Status Quo) cannot hold forever -- mathematics and exponential functions WILL sweep it aside.
Many people pinch their views through their personal political prisms and will never, ever, change their minds. Of this I am convinced. Others do not care and never will. Perpetual impasse. A line must and will be drawn somewhere and I don't believe it is very far away.
What if the message is, "We're mad at you -- we think you already know why."?
The demonstrators don't have a "five point plan". What they seek is revolution. Out of the ashes will come a man with a plan. Hopefully Ron Paul.
What KIND of revolution do they want? It matters, you know. Because if we get a Marxist revolution -- which a lot of these dipshits seem to crave -- I guarantee you, shit's gonna get worse, not better.
We could easily end up with a Stalin. Well, at least we'd have the satisfaction of seeing the status quo hung from the White House porch beam. (Small consolation.)
Boy is that a stupid way to look at things. Sow the wind, and reap the whirlwind.
Mad at who? Hillary and Obama for speaking out against repression in Arab regimes?
I am looking for a message that will resonate with Mom and Pop in middle America. To many, this just looks like anger. Sure, maybe some thinking people will attribute the anger where it should be. Others will attribute it to them being stirred up by radical forces. Or to class envy. I don't think you leave it up to the listener to define for you what you are mad about. Say it yourself. I've listed clear culprits.
People are obviously getting fired up. Haven't you noticed its been getting bigger?
It is and they are getting fired up. I just want them to articulate something that will have an impact when they get the media attention they are craving. It's a shame to waste even 30 seconds in the spotlight, when you could say something fundamental and hard hitting with that time. How many times have we lamented here on ZeroHedge the 'ignorance of the sheeple'? For goodness sake we have been treated to pages and pages of essays on it by great writers like CD. So, if we condense a message down to something people will see is a clear problem, perhaps the result would not be to divide them, but to get them thinking about joining it. Maybe that's my utopian side being too assertive, who knows!
ZH should put together 10 or 20 points of OccupyWS demands.
OccupyWS needs some articulating support.
My sense is that, wisely, they don't want to be pinned down just yet
It is my personal belief that the US is simply too big to govern. Any message would simply be met with counter-arguments and disagreements. The people are unsatisfied - many for different reasons. That is enough for now. What - hopefully - people come to realize that the only real answer is more freedom, more liberty, and the ability to associate in small communities of like-mindede people and that the Empire of the United State of Amerika is the problem. The concept of the Empire is the problem.
Well, this country, as originally conceived, was a republic of individual sovereign states. The constitution has been undermined and abused steadily since 1861, destroying state and personal sovereignty in favor of turning us into a monolithic federal state.
It really is just as simple as turning back the clock to the original constitution, and throwing out 150 years of bad amendments, supreme court decisions, and executive orders.
Restore the Republic!
"Any message would simply be met with counter-arguments and disagreements."
I hope you are wrong and fear you are right. The dividing voices of our society will see to it I am afraid.. Some lyrics I penned recently:
Talking points, talking points
All I'm hearing are your talking points, talking points
Can you think outside the tiny box
Of your idealogy?
Talking points, talking points
All I'm hearing are your talking points, talking points
All your thoughts are just hand-me-downs
From your ideocracy
awesome !
Hey now, those are Democrats talking... they can't be hypocritically against the Occupy Wall Street movement if they are behind it...
Wait, does this mean that the Democrats maybe aren't the true backers of Occupy Wall Street?
I knew the accusations would fly when this hit the M.S.M. The left would half-assed support it, the right would shun it as communism, violent, or as Fox news continues to call it, "an incoherent drug party". People are now aware of what's happening. This has NOTHING to do with political parties. Both sides have failed us, and miserably at that. People, American citizens are PISSED OFF AT BOTH SIDES. They're sick of the bullshit spewed by people we trusted, sick of helping pay for banks to give out million dollar bonuses when months earlier we've footed the bill to keep the company up and running (with no say from the public, I might add). They can give long, eloquent speeches about Libya and Egypt...what about the anger that is growing in your OWN BACKYARD?!? They "sympathize" with us, they "understand" we are upset. You do? Really? Then, do something about it. Don't pass things like Volcker, and Dodd/Frank to create this mess under the guise of "oh, well we tried, turns out we screwed up". Seems to me, that since I've been able to understand, my elected officials have been cleaning up mistakes rather than preventing them. Try being proactive instead of reactive.
Here are a few facts.
#1 All who try to equate what the spoiled, selfish, ignorant and amoral OWS face with those in the Middle East, are at best ignorant. IMO, they are probably lying scum.
#2. OWS is rightly angry over those in WS who should have been charged and/or lost everything, getting off scott free. All the executives, board members and "senior VPs", should have lost all their equity/holdings, and their jobs. Warren Buffett should have lost everything; IF the banks were/are insolvent, so is he. IMO WB is the biggest scum of them all.
#3 Americans, so many played a part. So many so that virtually all are to blame. If you voted for politicians who have not actively fought to dismantle the growing socialist/kleptocracy, then you actively supported the creation of the mechanisms and incentive system that created just what these systems were destine to do.
#4 Americans have become selfish, ignorant, amoral and spoiled. Everything she is getting she earned and choose through her vote and silence.
I am a retired military officer who loves the true America, her ideals, spirit and laws as originally intended and constructed; you would be very wrong to consider my words as politically or economically motivated.
There is a huge silent majority that will, if things continue down the road now on, rise up and strike down the WS scum, the OWS scum, the "progressives", and the cultural ghetto scum who glorify amoral selfishness and violence.
These selfish cry babies, currently embodied by the OWS scum, do not know real oppression, violence or terror. But if they keep it up they may learn what real violence is, and the fruits of selfishness that is at root not much different than Communism.
"do not know real oppression, violence or terror. But if they keep it up they may learn what real violence is".
I agree that learning what violence is will not be good for anyone in the OWS movement. They can post like they are bad asses but that will change quickly if things get violent. Some things I am hearing out of OWS are valid but trying to piece the total message together is impossible. If they think they will make progress with a "We don't need you - just watch us and you will see" then they need a reality check. Present a message that people consider to be reasonable and fair and the movement will grow, if not they are nothing other than a blip in time that none of us will remember in a couple of years.
This is the sad part of this movement. I agree that criminals should be removed from Wall Street. I agree the Fed be closed down (who will take their place?CON gress?). I also agree that the entire political system revolves around taking bribes to fill a war chest for reelection Congress approval ratings show that the majority of the citizens rate them as low as whale shit.
If OWS wants their student loans forgiven - screw them, they weren't forced to take the loan nor were they forced to enjoy their time in college. Of course we could just ask that we forgive the loans, reimburse anyone that paid their way through college and in fairness we would also have to pay anyone that didn't go to college - just sayin
Just what is the message???
[quote]Present a message that people consider to be reasonable and fair and the movement will grow,...[quote]
Since you haven't been registered on this site very long, perhaps you don't know yet that the Financial system imposed on everyone is in NO way reasonable nor fair! If the ideal solution involves destruction of the ENTIRE financial system with a side helping of Govt overhaul, would YOU be for or against it?
Get yerself some learnin':
"The Creature From Jekyll Island, a Second Look at the Federal System", 5th Ed., G. Edward Griffin, ISBN: 978-0-912986-45-6
1- these are opinions not facts.
2- Sieg Heil!
3- This is full of contradictions and not worthy of my time to correct
4- Go Fuck Yourself
So on the one hand you agree with the legitimate grievances of the OWS, and then you refer to them as "the OWS scum." Which is it?
The problem with OWS is they don't have much of a clue. They have a few good ideas, a few bad ideas, and a few downright scary ideas.
And if you think "authority" is the problem, you need to educate yourself a little more carefully. Your average cop on the street isn't the problem, most of them are simply trying to maintain a semblance of order and cleanliness. The real problem is inside the beltway, not on wall street. We have a federal government that is completely out of control and off the rails. This dopey hate-the-rich mentality is stupid and counterproductive. Typical Marxist crap that only leads to bad places. Ask the 100 million or so that died in the name of Marxism under Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc.
Please watch, listen and learn. Does this OWS'er have a clue? Ever hear a tea partier law it down like this? Do you really think the cops are the real "authorities" calling the shots?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQow0Fhua1A
Au contraire. I think the OWS folks know exactly what is going on, and they are doing the right thing. They are following a process that will lead to a new way of structuring our society, one that does not depend upon hierarchy.
As for "authority" it has been my experience that most of it is bad. YMMV.
Actually you don't know any of that. You're just saying that shit.
Well said. I find it interesting that when Tea Partiers demonstrate, they are always very clean, civil, organized, and respectful of authority. Yet the libtard media loved to portray them as wackjobs and extremists.
Now you get a bunch of dirty hippies who are, in fact, wackjobs...and the libtards call the heroes...
The Tea Party shows up in chauffered limousine busses, provided with a nice bagged lunch and whisked home in time for their 6 pm medication, all courtesy of Koch Industries. They don't even hang around long enough to get their powdered wigs dusty. As for the continous rant about the man defecating on a police car, study the picture. They have taken great pains to make sure you don't see his face, and he is behind a mail box hidden from view of people on the street, which is also blocked by a truck. and you don't see any shit. It could have been anywhere in NY, the police car belongs to precinct 81. Where is the protest again?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2046586/Occupy-Wall-Street-Shock...
Because Rush and Beck tells you Soros is behind it, it's constantly repeated. The Soros connection is tenous at best. But they need to promote that to take the focus off the fact that the Tea Party is big money funded.
http://www.salon.com/2011/10/13/reuters_george_soros_is_secretly_behind_...
But the lies continue. The Tea Party is nothing more than the extreme right wing of the GOP, rebranded, with costumes and guns. Not many are fooled anymore.
This so far looks like our best shot for getting things straightened out. It's going to painful regardless, I just want to make sure the pain will be worth it, and we come out the other side with a system that's truly for/of/by the people. It's not a dem/repub leadership contest, they both SUCK.
Well said? The guy is borderline psychotic, and it sounds to me he's about to lose it in a bad way, and start willy-nilly killing people because of some silly conceptions about spoiled, immoral, ignorant, and selfish stupid Americans. You know. Those folks whose freedom he defended some time back.
So Tea partiers are respectful of authority? Hahaha. Good luck storming the castle with that. You do understand that the "authorities" are the problem, yes?
Alternatively, let me introduce to you the idea of the Stockholm Syndrome: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_syndrome
If you voted for politicians who have not actively fought to dismantle the growing socialist/kleptocracy, then you actively supported the creation of the mechanisms and incentive system that created just what these systems were destine to do
Exactly which politicians should have been voted for ....
Yup, just coke or pepsi in this district.
"These selfish cry babies, currently embodied by the OWS scum, do not know real oppression, violence or terror." HCSKnight:
I would like to point out that, youth unemployment in the US is currently above 25%. It's pretty obvious that the previous generations destroyed our real wealth and turned everything into debt, debts that the youth and their children and their children's children will be responsible for. Ever more young people are joining the work force at a time previous generations overleveraged the shti out of the economy and left it in a shambles. the youth didn't sign up for this shti they can't be held responsible for others bad debts.
when the irresponsible behaviors of previous generations convert our real wealth into debt, it's only natural that the youth would like to alleviate the debt situation by taxing those who have accumulated the most (fiat) money. status quo punishes the youth for debts they did not incur, it's not fair there's no equality of opportunity and the youth are fed up.
'Yes we can....................' got up and moved to Zuccotti Park! It's starting to feel like 1968 and Obama is morphing into Hubert Humphrey. Sure Obama's going to win the nomination like Humphrey did, but Obama seems about as relevant to what's really going on as Humphrey did in 68.
You should have made the video. Pity they didn't find someone to say what you just said on camera.
Exactly. Neither side can get behind it and spin it their way because each side is the enemy. This explains why it has been cast in such a poor light by both sides. Be scared when the right and the left agree on something.
