For those of us that have read Kunstler's The Long Emergency and his two World Made By Hand novels, it is easy to recognize after watching the above three videos that the future is now.

Watching that story on the garden - how bullshit is that! I mean, really?

The bureaucratic city guy in his suit-n-tie is a real piece of shit.  Even as one who defends governement agencies (that actually do their job) - it really is so much BS that people would rather go on a power trip, and say "no", rather than actually work with people.

Fining people and taking them to court, "just cause", is not what government is supposed to be.

Sad part is, I bet that law was written by a corporate lawyer who is representing Monsanto or some other huge food corporation trying to monopolize the system.

The funny thing? The British guy living in the town makes great points: City hurting for cash, so hours are down for city workers, no fireworks, and other losses of services, due to "crying poor".

Yet, they have the cash to pay lawyers to enforce this bullshit.

BTW, the city dropped the charges...only to fine her for not "registering" her dogs with the city.

These worms are abundant, mostly in government jobs, the scum of the Earth, "I told her not to do it " , What a cocky, puffed up wretch of a man.

I sincerely hope our wonderous female leaders will not see fit to procreate with such vermin.

the .gov crew are hell bent on their own destruction.

There was a mom in Little Rock who turned her whole front yard into a garden, and had chickens in the back yard.  A quite urban setting, too.   Nary a peep from the City.   Way to go!   She made my garden look like an overgrown dump.  Best tomatoes I've ever seen.  All natural too.  She had lady bugs and other natural predators shipped to her.  Used only her own compost.   Too bad she's already married.

Yes.  She should be commended.

Of course the idiots bashing her for her appearance (real and imagined...which just goes to show you that many male ZHers have little to do other than speculate on the presence or absence of public hair?) are the same idiots who would be bashing her if she accepted subsidized (ware)housing.

Two of my favorite books ever written. Am re-reading the Long Emergency now.

That hottie from Argentina has got the attitude down pat!

In the new age we are entering, every respectable (straight) man will have an even stronger woman behind them.

Nearly all of my female friends are earning more than me, more than most of my guy friends in fact. Us men have another role. Do we embrace it?

Perhaps he's read the following, knowing all to well that patriarchal culture -- i.e., the state in its unconscionable glory -- has finally spilled all its seed:

I sure know it.  And will take all the assistance I can get, male or female, in preparation for the coming "storm surge":

I did, and your response to Captain Planet is who I was referring to as well, my point being that humanity has a long prehistory of matriarchal culture that you don't have to be a "pussy" to understand and acknowledge.

You can be a male chauvinist pig in denying it, however, and while I'm not saying that you are, I have to wonder if you'd be much help in dealing with the "Storm Surge" that I referenced, as women will have an absolutely vital role in dealing with the paradigm shift that's on its way.  And given what a massive blow its early stages are already having on the male psyche (long-term unemployment will do that to you), it's a sure bet that women are going to have a mighty task on their hand dealing with both.

I'm fortunate to have a balanced marriage and a wife who understands, however regretfully, what's coming and why.  And since I am the one who has spent years preparing her (and myself), I have no illusions about it.  Thus can I spend an increasing amount of my time talking frankly with our family and friends without having to worry about spousal pushback.

We are both very worried, of course, that we will be victims of the paradigm shift, not survivors of it.  But at least we aren't in denial about it and can therefore focus on the task at hand, not wallow in delusion "hope and change."

I'm not a chauvinist but have to agree somewhat with Trav.  I've know LOTS of women.  I don't know any that WANT the leading role.  Most often, women step up because the man is not present or does not have the ability.  Sure, there are some powerful and "take charge" women.  That is not proof of a new paradigm or society structure.  Society is creating the need or demand for this role reversal. It's not  because it is a woman's nature, because it simply isn't.  And that's okay..

"Society is creating the need or demand for this role reversal."

I'm not really talking about a role reversal; I'm talking about the joining hands that it's going to take -- man, women, and child; families and friends; "intentional" communities as a whole -- to first weather the storm of a "centre [that] cannot hole [and] mere anarchy is loosed upon the land," then to reassemble the pieces into a decentralized whole.

The devastated male domain (that is largely hidden from view due to the food stamps and other electronic government handouts that have replaced bread lines) will only grow.  And since women are far more domestically oriented than men, they will be called on more and more to help stabilize whatever is left of the homelife that the center hasn't destroyed.

In other words, while everybody is going to have to buck up as never before, women will have to be at their maternal best to help mother us all back to life on the other side of the statist rampage of the last hundred years.

what role is that, disposible sex toy and/or sperm donor?

The future is not given to women as patriarchal societies are having more children.

Abiding by women's decisions or even allowing them a choice is a temporary luxury borne of excess.  Evolution did not endow women with decisiveness simply because it's never mattered in all but the tiniest recent slice of mammal history what any female wanted.

It's what naturally happens with a brain on board a sinking patriarchal ultimate man-bitch and a captain going nowhere but as a follow fellow.

The tiniest slice of the inflection points of history require no gender-specificity. Making family is the first order of business.

Cihuatlan was a city in Mexico which we now call Zihuatanejo (See-WHA tah-nay-ho) which meant "place of women"; a matriarchal society. This society florished during the 1500-1700s and still has many aspects of such.

Many places in South America and Africa still have such societies or portions thereof. My guess is that women  led societies were much more common earlier in human existence.      Milestones

Kind of threw me that the talking head started out praising someone using a gun as opposed to the typical anti-gun spooge about another gun-happy so and so using one. OT a bit but also on ABC was this clip about a 'suspected' pot smoking Vet who ended up killing an LEO when they kicked in his door. Another prime example of why the Drug War needs to end before this starts happening more and more and LEO's start driving tanks through living room walls for a pack of rolling papers: http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/officers-suspect-wounded-utah-drug-shooting-15294385
