The injured gentlemen is Veterans for Peace member Scott Olsen, allegedly shot with a rubber bullet.
This is another gentlemen allegedly shot in the face with a rubber bullet (his injury is above his right eye, while the injury to Scott Olsen appears to be on the left side of his face):

i did my undergraduate work in the usa, in California, and I had to live with these leftists who hate their own country. here, we love our country and if it has problems we try to fix it as best we can or at least not be a burden to other people. but these leftists, they hate their own country. they think they have everything coming to them with no work because that was how their parents and government raised them. in the univeristy the professors were openly hateful of their country and those that were not did not progress in their careers in the university. this I saw with my own eyes.
all these leftists studied useless degrees like womens studies, anthropology, human ecology, art history. sometimes my dorm mates would look at my biochem homework and get this scared look on their faces, like the monkeys in the movie 2001 apace odyssey that come face to face with the starionary objects in the dessert. "oooh, that looks hard; want to come through the disk (frisbee)?" was about all they could think of to say.
So there they are trying to be anarchists in the streets. They are angry and they are useless. Which is why they are angry.
