Egyptian Brutality Comes to America: Police Fire Rubber Bullets at Peaceful Protesters

George Washington's picture

This is not Egypt, Greece or Italy ... this is America:

The injured gentlemen is Veterans for Peace member Scott Olsen, allegedly shot with a rubber bullet.

This is another gentlemen allegedly shot in the face with a rubber bullet (his injury is above his right eye, while the injury to Scott Olsen appears to be on the left side of his face):

http://s1-02.twitpicproxy.com/photos/large/433190207.jpg

Here are police roughing up a peaceful woman protester:

And a policeman threw a flash grenade into a crowd trying to help an injured protester:

Some are calling this the "new Kent State".

And protesters from Tahrir Square, Egypt, say this is what it looked like there.

seriously? this is just over-hyped and boring at this point. how about one you toe heads run up to a cop and yell "fuck you" and find out what happens next? just because these little rat turds have video cams and editing gear doesn't make it anything more than it is: a continuation of the runaway sense of entitlement and lack of appreciation for what this country affords. all of them need to get out and spend a little time in the third world instead of pretending that the US isn't a pretty damn good place to be born.

Actually, I have "run up to a cop and yell[ed] 'fuck you'", gringo28. In open attempt to provoke a pig who was fucking around to put me in jail for a ticket offense, I did just that -- repeatedly -- about 25 feet from the local police station about 2 1/2 years ago.

Challenged the ticket in court -- pig didn't show.

Ditto that Gringo, I just get a kick out of these hippie freaks charging, threatening and throwing shit at the cops. Only to find out the hard way; "hey, why are they shotting at us"...

The protestors are the ones who have been threating "necessary use of physical force" to make their point.

The cops are doing what they're trained to do, clean up the streets.

Bravo to the cops, they're just doing their jobs.

Just in case any of you were wondering where fascism gets its support... look no further.

If you want to live in a country that is run by monarchs and where civil disobedience is outlawed, feel free to move your happy ass to Saudi Arabia.

America has no use for you.

You have heard of the US Constitution, right?  We have an unalienable right to peaceably assemble and protest, and the document was written to protect that right.  Now we have to have a permit to protest, and that is a joke in and of itself.  Then if a protest is deemed "illegal," you have to "disperse or else."  The night video showed a peaceful protest, and the police opened up on the protesters anyway.  I guess fascists wouldn't understand though...

I'm fairly sure that they're supporting those in Syria, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and so on who are also protesting. A little late, but as you said, they've been coddled and lied to all their lives; you might have missed it, but this is a global protest movement, in 90 odd cities around the world, being treated more-or-less violently as determined by the local governments. I think most people (at least outside of the US) realise this.

For the record, I happen to agree that it is over-hyped at the moment. It is becoming 'unhyped' and more real as we speak, which is the entire point. But I'm sure it has felt real to Syrians & other MENA states.

Good point Uow. And believe it or not the global solidarity is opening up investment doors like mad. If you are educated and spend a half hour a day to a week understand history of other cultures this is a goldmine and and getting shit done multiplying pennies is lot of fun together to boot.

The world may be somewhat screwed for the next decade for major growth but stamping out the new root of real capitalist beginning to grow from ping-pong trade strategies is madness. Isn't that what you bankers and politicians that were drastically overpaid were supposed to do, plant seeds globally and let them grow?

Now it's stamp out the free market with jack-boots destroying foreign investments? Some in leadership are meglomaniacle retards. As they are indeed a tiny, tiny percent of the globe we the people of this world have decided we are firing you as middle management. The other 6 B are going forward without you. Evolution is a real bitch but static systems do horrible in dynamic envrionemnts which is what we have now, more 4d environemnt, not 3d.

I've green arrowed you for calling out the plurality, if not majority, of the occupy crowd.  You're going to get about a 10-to-1 negative ratio (I get about the same on these fringe posts).   Think of 'em as anti-oxidants.

A serious escalation. Hope this is an important wake up call.

With each escalation chances of resolving the crisis peacefully diminish.

This isn't Kent State, because those in power now are far more corrupt than anytime in prior American history. And this isn't about a single policy issue. It's the rebellion of people who are being forced into serfdom.

because america is the land of the free and the home of the brave, not of serfs
at least, that is the example of your numerous historical heroes, whose courage and in many cases sacrifice created and is still maintaining a society that was a beacon for the world, but which now is becoming a police state: http://goldsilver.com/news/the-us-is-fast-becoming-a-third-world-police-...
we here in socialist canada are freer now than you.
and somehow you fail to address that although OWS is not your image of a voice of resistance, who else is even close to talking about the financial terrorism going on? i think we can assume you personally are not doing any better. you sound actually like a whipped dog, to me.
so you mr. korner, if ever you were inspired about being an american, and not just an entitled, blob of selfish negativity, you seem to have forgotten.
and/or you're just scared shitless, for all your brave posturing.

Nice rant, Mr. Michael C.  Not sure where you did your background check on me (you didn't), but you missed by a mile.  Let's take your assumptions: (1) I'm an American, (2) I'm not doing any better (not sure what your reference point is), (3) I have an entitlement mentality, (4) I'm scared of something.

Which of these do you know to be true?  I'm pretty transparent here, and if you follow my fairly regular comments you would probably not have made any of these assumptions.

So if you throw away all of that, where does that leave you, Mr. Michael C?  Methinks as a someone projecting his own fears...

Knock yerself out.

most people who put money towards something are ENTITLED to it. If said money is not there any more because it has been STOLEN then there is a problem. Most people would protest having money stolen from them. Thus the OWS movement. The youth are not happy about what your generation has done to them. Fucker.

Says the dude who makes less in a year than I pay in taxes.  I haven't done anything to "the youth", so quit making stuff up, Mr. "I'm alive today but someday I will die".  You cannot define the OWS movement because it is an incoherent mob that is directing rage at anyone and everything.

I make a living (self-made), pay my taxes, take care of me, my own, and a number of others through charitable contributions.  So shoot me.

Nah...this is business as usual for Oakland Police. If Oak cops don't kill someone every year whether innocent protesters or subway riders, I'd be surprised.

Random thuggery and massive 200k+ pensions for life at 55 for low IQ power trippers without even a college degree.

CORRECTION....pension for police chiefs are $300k+ ...

Oakland Police chief Batts will retire with his full pension estimated to be between $270,000 and $300,000 a year.

Top SAn Jose salaries

Retired police chief Rob Davis topped the 2010 ranks with total compensation of $534,576. (No wonder Anthony Batts wanted in.) No. 2 on the list is Fire Chief Darryl Von Raesfeld, also retired, at $430,108. Everyone in the top 15 except City Manager Debra Figone is with the police or fire department.

Santa Clara police chief's salary is$250,000, but his TOTAL COMP after bonuses, overtime, etc. was $680,000 for 2010.

No shit Aldous? I gotta get me into that violence business! Then take the other side of the trade. Ooops too late, Fascists beat me to it by 40 years. Seriously though, the police state is now an unecessay remnant of America being the reserve currency host. Part of that job is protection of global trade. But the less creative and motivated amoung tiny management of the nation is stupidly turning the gun on those investments. The China super baby is sputtering already. Its now a 4d world, need micro economic strategy not more waste in the violence business.
