"Enforce the Laws for the 99%"

George Washington's picture

Must-watch interview:

Background: Top economists and financial experts agree that our economy will never recover unless Wall Street fraud is prosecuted. See this and this.

But the government has more or less made it official policy not to prosecute fraud, and instead to do everything necessary to cover up for Wall Street.

with my short experience with occupy palm beach / lake worth..

I offered to have Bill come speak..

the ignorant children didn't know who he was..

the problem with consensus building is that, if the majority of the group is ignorant.. nothing productive can be completed.

my personal biggest problem with occupy palm beach and lake worth (other than the fragmentation, because of the size of palm beach county.. and the 2 million people who live within the county) was the organizers wanted to act just like the bankers on wall street..

which plainly means.. they didn't want to follow the law.. they just wanted to get together and beat on bongos..

to be able to go out into the community (lake worth in particular) and have the local businesses contribute to the cause so that legal bills and permits for the protest could be obtained.. to me was paramount.. gaining the support of local businesses insured the support of the mayor and thusly law enforcement..

needless to say the ignorant children didn't want to do any of that.. they just wanted to do what they wanted to do.. minus a permit or pushing the cause forward within the business community who stands to lose more than little ignorant children that have NOTHING to lose or gain.

so, when you are thinking of trying to lead the ignorant children in a productive direction that would garner more support for the cause.. understand that you are up against a group of people who simply do not understand what it means to be responsible for others (i didn't want any world war 2 vets getting arrested for protesting when a permit could have been easily provided along with yet more support for the cause and these children do NOT care that some old vet might freak out over being hand cuffed and who still suffers from PSTD.. who then strokes out or has a heart attack).

I am still pissed off about the wide spread ignorance but?? what can you do?

keep educating people and try to help.

1. if the Group is ignorant no matter how smart you are it will not make up for the votes you lack

2. organizing is not supposed to be an exercise of ego, it is supposed to be about providing a safe and productive experience for the people you compel to be involved.

3. and this is my favorite.. if you do dress in a collared shirt, expect to be treated like a banker.. you have to be poor and stupid to have any credibility with the stinky, hippie, bongo playing, ignorant children that outnumber you and your passion or experience.

4. YOU CAN NOT!! FIX STUPID!

I hear a lot of people talking about what they think needs to be done in this country.  The fact is we have a system and that system requires people to get involved in the political process. How many here have been involved in a campaign to get someone elected. Thumbs up for yes and vice versa.

"DeGraw has emerged on the scene of alternative journalism in the past two years with the force of a tornado. His AmpedStatus website, along with two or three others he runs (we can't keep track), plus his books and interviews indicate he practices a powerful brand of alternative journalism.

And, yet, a closer look at DeGraw indicates that not all is as it seems. We analyzed one of his main pieces of writing yesterday and discovered he believes the Business Council is the engine of elite manipulation in the US, and therefore the world. He mentions many names, but not the Rockefellers and not the Rothschilds."

I really support the GW efforts trying to present OWS as it should be.

The problem is that OWS is not what it should be.

And each time GW highligts some of the supporters, titled as economist, financial experts and Nobel Prize Winners, for me, and I think also for some others, the movement loses even more credibility.

(1) Let's not glorify the Wall Street thing.  Honestly, it began with a bunch of spoiled Columbia students trying to get attention.  I agree it has grown into something else, but I am not sure it is something that is either good or effective.

(2) The Tea Party failed to keep the Republicans from stealing it.  This bunch has failed to keep the radical Left from stealing it.  There are enough good people from both the Tea Party and the Wall Street bunch to make up one good-sized effort.  They are both angry about the same thing, really--big government in bed with big banks for the benefit of the few.  The problem is that "the few," according to the Tea Party includes not just Wall Street bankers and big money politicians, but the people who have benefitted from the vast welfare state of the last 50 years (in other words, the vast majority of the Democrat constituency).

(3) Which raises the real problem with the Wall Street bunch.  So many of them are there to try to create pressure for MORE handouts.  They don't want to reduce the size or negative impact of government.  They want to give MORE power and control to the government so that they can line THEIR pockets.  They don't want to work for anything.  They want to simply lie around and bitch about others who have made money.  No one doubts that some of the big money people are lying thieves.  But many of those people worked their asses off and taken enormous risks to get where they are.  A lot of the Wall Street bunch would like to steal money from even these hard-working people to benefit themselves through welfare.  It is nothing more than a Statist redistribution agenda that will grow government and destroy jobs.

(4) I suspect that many of these people are capable of working and would like to work.  They just suffer from bad breaks and the Bush/Obama (i.e., BIG GOVERNMENT) economy.  They need to quit bitching about Wall Street and start bitching about the Democrats and Republicans who continue to crush our economy and our nation.  They need to get down to DC and march on the Mall to the White House and Capitol and tell government to "get small" very fast.  Cut taxes, cut regulation, cut entire government agencies.  Let people keep their money instead of allowing government to confiscate it and we will all be quite happy with the consequent job and economic growth.

You would think it would be simple, if the law is broken prosecutions follow. What the banks have done is to put two fingers and a sed load of cash to the law.

Nothing new is required the laws are already there. It will be a truly great day when justice prevails. So far the protests are peaceful and we have the TPM and OWS coming to the same conclusions from opposite directions.

The time will come when they find common cause and things could get ugly very quickly.

This agenda is for Hawaii, other places would be siilar with their own uniq twist.

Eliminate lobbying

Eliminate political gifts of any sort

Eliminate nepotism

Enforce the rule of law

Eliminate 40% of all Gov jobs and replace them with production jobs

Restore the Constitution, and all the amendments, eliminate every interpretation throughout the
decades that has taken us further from the truth.  Use the military to restore the Constitution if need be

Make all political careers, 3 term maximum.

Breakapart mass media, if you are a financial company, you must sell off your media segment

Bring all the military home from 160 countries, and many of the diplomats to

Punish governmental corruption, prosecute it.

Eliminate 70% of the lawyers....sorry, you got a real job, making a product your neighbor needs to buy

Create 50,000 jobs in renewable energy and in 10 years we won't need oil, and the wars.

Restore capitalism, reward innovation, reward hard work, don't steal from those that produce and achieve.   Provide incentive to produce and achieve.

End the Fed.    Printing money steals money from those who work and save.   End the Fed.

Inflation is a theft, stop it.   Link to a gold standard, say $10,000 total currency for each ounce of gold, it doesn't have to be one for one.

Investigate and prosecute property crimes

Give illegal aliens 1 year to leave or be on a path to truly legal here, after 2 years if that path hasn't suceeded, then off you go.

Eliminate another 40% of Gov jobs and replace those with productive work also, seriously
Cleanup the Aina, build nice parks, and prosecute those who would vandalise them.

Prosecute  those who pollute with 100 hours of community service cleaning up.
Cleanup the ocean, build artificial reefs, and stop fishing on Oahu for 2 years.   Hope it helps

The neighborhood do know 90% who runs the ice houses, let the neighborhoods know that there reports will be investigated under the restored laws of the constitution, giving respect to all people of innocent until proven guilty--but they will really be investigated

Legalize pot, I don't do it, but let's be real, what has the way on drugs accomplished, more coke, more crack, more ice, people need a way to blow off steam, pot is pretty non violent.

Pass school or you won't get full benefits that others get.    If you are retarded, you get some exemption, otherwise, you get tough love.   No excuses.

Force government to become segregated, Gov is 90% brownskinned peoples look at the rosters, it's true.

PTRio's picture

Allow me to add my favorite,  eliminate all private campaign donations and all campaign advertising. Choose our candidates through regional and national debates funded through a Pot Tax.

I would not ban all lobbying, just ban paid lobbyists. If I go to DC to talk sense into an elected official, I am lobbying. As individual citizens, we should have more access to our elected officials.

I especially like the idea of mandatory public service as part of the sentence for all environmental crimes.

Also, how about a mandatory penalty for all CEO's whenever there is a felony committed within the business they run? Call it the Rogue Trader Cellmate Act. Might spoil a few bridge games while the home office is rotting from within, but we really need accountability from the top down, not just at the bottom.

Tue, 10/18/2011 - 11:25 | 1785316 Bob

How about a "Three Strikes" sentencing rule for habitual corporate criminals that will revoke the corporate charter on the third felony by executive management?

If it works for petty addicts and thieves, it seems only fair.  If corps are real people, shouldn't we treat them as such?

I could see boards finding Jesus with that one.

I just showed the video to my 15 yr old son. He was unaware of  OWS , but has heard me clamouring for 3 years over the pernicious, perfidious, venal.whoremongering  regime that has occupied the halls of power in USA (Daddy Bush and slick Willy VERY much included).  He always thought I was a bit of a conspiracy theorising nutbar. But now his eyes are opening. USA does NOT have a democracy. It is a corpocracy that needs crushing. Treason is the charge that needs to be brought against the perpertrators of the evil that has ambushed America. I am generally opposed to the death penalty...but.  And by the way, my son is a 15 year old who was born and has lived his whole life in New Zealand. America, we are ALL watching this battle...and we, on the side of right, by education and evidence (and hopefully non-violence),  WILL prevail. Solidarity people. Capitalism works, crony capitalism gets the gallows.

The only way to really protect and defend the interests of the 99% is to go back to the original Constitutional government. A central government able to reach into the lives of average Americans and make a positive difference is also powerful enough to make a negative difference. The same can be said of state and even local governments, but to a lesser degree, and you can always escape to a saner state. That's the approach people of good will can rallly around. Only the control freaks hate it, and they'll think of a thousand reasons why people will suffer if power resides closer to them. But most will be lies, and many people are already slipping through the cracks. At least with state control, someone is likely to get it right, and we can follow their lead. There is a best mix of private charity and government action to address hard cases, but we're nowhere near that now, nor will we ever find it, since the system isn't really concerned with actually helping people in most cases; ongoing dependency is obviously of value to it. That's playing with human lives, and it will always happen, but it's better to be able to drive down and confront your oppressors, rather than staring in rage at the TV.

The mad officials of America tend

The President, Congress, the Senate they do enshrine

While some believe the FED alone divine.

Others, where mark to markets vast ruin strews the ground

And mark to unicorn yields a magic sound

Set up a glittering brute of uncouth shape

And bow before the image of an ape.

Thousands regard the banksters with Holy fear

No-one decent. And 'tis dangerous here

To violate their opinion or to stain

The sanctity of bonuses with words profane

The gubbermint spares the shysters and thinks it ill

The blood of fraudsters or of crooks to spill

But the peoples' cash ! Why 'tis legal fare

To steal it all. No scandal there.

It's a nice thought and if this was 2004, that might have saved the 1st American Republic but I doubt it. I liked the quotes someone put up about Milton Friedman and the flaws in the Central Bank model.

The Central Bank is a 4d framework model that more or less had to operate in a 3d pyramid paradigm. Yes, the intent of the model was co quest and evil. A bow and arrow as tool is also a weapon.

The world could liberate itself and lose 35% casualties but if as Milton Friedman said, you don't fix fractional reserve lending, it will just come back. If a price gets paid in blood as it is likely to free society, don't forget the final most important part to repair the foundation.

I believe banking will be a public utility next decade. 4d tools must be applied witg the 4d model. 'Quants' were nothing but 2x2 variables in pyramid code, it was marketing hype.

An aside, thank you Bill Black's, Tyler Durden's and Elizabeth Warrens. You lost the inevitable first battle but already won the war.

Interesting that this marine sergant thinks he was fighting for our freedoms in Iraq and Afganistan.  I don't doubt his sincerity or his big heart, however.

But why is it that our army is always battling away half way around the world? Even during Vietnam, I honestly could not figure out why we were there.  Something about dominos that some egghead thinktank came up with was the reason, I guess, that 50,000 young Americans had to die and probably over a million Vietnamese. These soldiers too were persuaded that they were protecting our freedoms.  That idealism probably filtered down from the strategic thought of the likes of Zbignew. Ah, Zbig et al, you control the fate of my sons and grandsons...I bow before your grandeur.

The top .01%: Worshipers of the Golden Phallus. When will we see them carrying in glorious procession the Golden Phallus down Wall St, bringing their cult out into the open?
