January 16th: “Occupy the Federal Reserve”

George Washington's picture

As David DeGraw notes, January 16th is "Occupy the Federal Reserve" day:

The “Occupy the Dream”
coalition has called for a National Day of Action on Martin Luther King
Day – Monday, January 16, 2012 – when they will “Occupy the Federal
Reserve,” in multiple cities nationwide, focusing attention on the gross
injustice visited upon the 99% by the financial elite.

Indeed, occupying the Fed has been a large part of the Occupy movement from day one.

There is actually a far more important protest scheduled for that day- and the entire intended audience will be there.  The 16th is the annual pilgramage of thousands of armed rednecks, urbanites, and even gun toting grannies to the Virginia Statehouse to remind the legislators:

That all power is vested in, and consequently derived from, the people, that magistrates are their trustees and servants, and at all times amenable to them.

That government is, or ought to be, instituted for the common benefit, protection, and security of the people, nation, or community; of all the various modes and forms of government, that is best which is capable of producing the greatest degree of happiness and safety, and is most effectually secured against the danger of maladministration; and, whenever any government shall be found inadequate or contrary to these purposes, a majority of the community hath an indubitable, inalienable, and indefeasible right to reform, alter, or abolish it, in such manner as shall be judged most conducive to the public weal.
...
That all elections ought to be free; and that all men, having sufficient evidence of permanent common interest with, and attachment to, the community, have the right of suffrage, and cannot be taxed, or deprived of, or damaged in, their property for public uses, without their own consent, or that of their representatives duly elected, or bound by any law to which they have not, in like manner, assented for the public good.
...
That all power of suspending laws, or the execution of laws, by any authority, without consent of the representatives of the people, is injurious to their rights, and ought not to be exercised.
...
That general warrants, whereby an officer or messenger may be commanded to search suspected places without evidence of a fact committed, or to seize any person or persons not named, or whose offense is not particularly described and supported by evidence, are grievous and oppressive, and ought not to be granted.

That no person shall be deprived of his life, liberty, or property without due process of law; that the General Assembly shall not pass any law impairing the obligation of contracts, nor any law whereby private property shall be taken or damaged for public uses, without just compensation, the term "public uses" to be defined by the General Assembly; and that the right to be free from any governmental discrimination upon the basis of religious conviction, race, color, sex, or national origin shall not be abridged, except that the mere separation of the sexes shall not be considered discrimination.

That in controversies respecting property, and in suits between man and man, trial by jury is preferable to any other, and ought to be held sacred. The General Assembly may limit the number of jurors for civil cases in courts of record to not less than five.

That the freedoms of speech and of the press are among the great bulwarks of liberty, and can never be restrained except by despotic governments; that any citizen may freely speak, write, and publish his sentiments on all subjects, being responsible for the abuse of that right; that the General Assembly shall not pass any law abridging the freedom of speech or of the press, nor the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for the redress of grievances.

That a well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe defense of a free state, therefore, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; that standing armies, in time of peace, should be avoided as dangerous to liberty; and that in all cases the military should be under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power.
...
That no free government, nor the blessings of liberty, can be preserved to any people, but by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality, and virtue; by frequent recurrence to fundamental principles; and by the recognition by all citizens that they have duties as well as rights, and that such rights cannot be enjoyed save in a society where law is respected and due process is observed.

That free government rests, as does all progress, upon the broadest possible diffusion of knowledge, and that the Commonwealth should avail itself of those talents which nature has sown so liberally among its people by assuring the opportunity for their fullest development by an effective system of education throughout the Commonwealth.

In addition to better hygene and manners, it is also one of the few protests in the world were the protestors always outnumber and outgun the State.

Please post some video afterward. I would love to see it. If and when all the 99% truly unite in coalition, no one will be able to stop the turn around of the USA.

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

There is a fleeting moment of opportunity for those in Washington & Richmond with the balls to seize on it.  The one thing that might scare politicians more than a well armed citizenry is a collapse of their usual methodology of dividing and conquering the electorate.

There are FED offices (and in theory will be OWS devotees) in both Washington and Richmond on Monday (Richmond is a 90-minute drive from Marriner Eccles).  In addition to the Annual VCDL march on the Richmond State House for face-to-face discussions with legislators, there are apparently a bunch of Tea Party affiliates also planning on showing up there for Lobby Day.  If EVERYONE, from both sides, shows up at the State House and says "WE WANT OUR GOVERNMENT BACK" the politicians are left with no base to claim preservation of the rape and pillage status quo.

I'll actually be in a meeting in Zug Monday but someone will inevitably post a video to http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=VCDL+Lobby+Day  Last year turnout was a bit subdued both due to the weather and the Tucson shooting a few days before, and then with the whole DOJ gunrunning blowup the video somehow never got posted (or I just can't the original email link in my Outlook labyrinth).

Perhaps if the number of armed protestors on the national mall dwarfed the number of government thugs in the guarding company town- the federal government would be better behaved...  The cultural fault line that bisects the state is huge, and while the smelly children are busy putting on a show for an empty theater, the adults have some rights to defend from encroachment, and since shitting all over place has done squat to stop the banks and their bitches in Washington from running full retard and shitting all over the people and their rights- it's time for a more proven model.  When the Fed and Congress let thousands of armed voters personally lobby their offices in defense of citizens' rights then perhaps there’s time for the OWS game.  In the mean time, I have to suck up my disdain for the Virginia State Sovereignty statutes and least play nice with the enemy of my enemy, since they are most certainly not my friend.

Excellent pair of posts U.R.

Gun owners doing some occupying...  THAT will get some attention I suppose.  Indeed, that is an "Occupy" that really does defend constitutional rights.  A reminder that even at this late date, this perilous time, that WE are supposed to be the ones in charge. Something that .gov has forgotten or ignored over the past several years.

It's OUR country!  And WE want it back!

I do wish the Occupy movement the best of luck should they go ahead and try to #OccupyTheFed!

I think some of the "Occupiers" are a bit eccentric... But at least they're making an effort... What is really bringing a bigger attention to this? Making a comment on a blog, or helping occupy the Federal Reserve? Give 'em a break, I don't have the balls to be out there.
