Long-Time Congressman John Conyers Calls for Protest Against the Debt Deal: “Thousands of People [Should Mass] In Front Of The W
Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Missouri) said of the debt "compromise":
It looks like a Satan sandwich.
Traditional conservatives such as Ron Paul are strongly opposed to the deal, and have warned Americans that this could spell the end of America as we know it.
The debt deal is so bad that long-time (36-year) Congressman John Conyers is calling for people to march on the White House:
We’ve got to educate the American people at the same time we educate the President of the United States. The Republicans, Speaker Boehner or Majority Leader Cantor did not call for Social Security cuts in the budget deal. The President of the United States called for that. My response to him is to mass thousands of people in front of the White House to protest this.
(Conyers is right about Obama - not Republicans - initiating cuts to social security.)
Why is the debt deal so bad?
As I've previously noted, the deal would create a "super congress" which is an end-run around accountability to the voters and the constitution.
As Chris Floyd writes today:
[The] extraordinary "special committee" or "Super Congress" ... is an unaccountable politburo which will be able to circumvent all normal democratic (and republican) principles and issue budget-slashing, tax-cutting legislation that cannot be debated or amended, but simply approved or rejected by the rest of the now-powerless representatives and senators.
That's not all. If the politburo -- handpicked members split evenly between the two gangs of thieves and poltroons that now hold sway on Capitol Hill -- can't agree on just how much they want to gut the budget and cut taxes for the rich, why then, this will trip a series of "triggers" which will automatically start gutting, slashing and cutting, without any vote by the democratically elected representatives whatsoever. And surely it would be superfluous in me to point out that these unaccountable "superpowers" will soon stretch to cover other areas of legislation beyond budgeting and taxes.
Behind all the flim-flammery of this manufactured "crisis", we are watching the creation of a new form of government -- or rather, the further mutation of the new form of government that the United States has been crawling toward for a long time. We called it a "neo-feudal oligarchy backed by a militarist police state" here the other day. No doubt there are many other ways you could describe this murderous, ravenous, lopsided monstrosity of a system. But the one thing you cannot call it is a "republic".
But at least the compromise will allow us to get our ballooning debt under control by making painful but necessary slashes to the budget, right?
Unfortunately, no.
As Business Insider reports:
The “historic, bipartisan compromise” reached to raise the debt limit does not end the struggle to reign in the federal deficit — in fact, it pushes the most difficult decisions off into the future.
More surprising, the debt deal actually cuts almost nothing now–it just promises future cuts that may or may not materialize.
There are very few specific cuts in the deal — and the $1 trillion in immediate cuts are almost entirely constituted of caps on future spending. And those caps are not required to be honored by future congresses.
***
In short, for the past month, Congress has been arguing about little more than an agreement to reach an agreement at some point in the future. Your tax dollars at work.
And the debt deal won't preserve America's AAA credit rating. At most, it will buy a couple of months to a year, and then we'll be downgraded.
Indeed, the Congressional Budget Office scores the compromise as providing only half of the cuts required by Standard & Poor's to avoid a debt downgrade (and concludes that only 2% of the total cuts will occur prior to the 2012 presidential election).
In other words, Washington is once again doing what it has been doing for years ... kicking the can down the road ... and trashing the Constitution.
No wonder even long-time Congressman Conyers is calling for the American people to march on the White House.

Now they're not even pimping the Constitution anymore; they're just kicking it into committee or, er, should I say cabal?
John Conyers----Founding member and dean of Congressional Black Caucus. Like anybody gives a shit what that fucking ape says. Wife convicted of bribery in 2009.
The worthless piece of subhuman shit has spent his life fucking over the country. John Conyers eats shit.
Turns out that "special commission" can also institute tax increases.
We are getting SCREWED by a congress that is not working for America.
Ya know, we would not have a Tea Party if these clowns would do their job.
WTF was that old geezer Conyers rambling on about? Freaking - we are doomed!
John Conyers is one of the /535 most corrupt (current) members of CONgress.
He's at least responsible for the all the unfunded socialist and other redistribution of incomes schemes of the last quarter century.
March your own ass down to DC. Johnny boy.
Torches and Pitchforks bitchez!!!
People like GW are slowly going insane watching America slowly sink into oblivion.
As things get worse they'll reach a point where they won't be able to cope with it anymore. They'll "lose it" as Gerald Celente says.
At that point they're useless and they'll need to be shot. For their good and everybody else's good. It'll be difficult enough surviving in the coming collapse and anarchy without their raving "we gotta save America" lunacy and other manifestations of insanity.
They had their chance to save America. But all they did is whine and bitch in some blog like GW does, waiting for someone else to do the dirty work.
America isn't going to be saved. Smart people have figured that out. And made preparations. At least mental preparations. Preparing mentally for 2nd or 3rd world conditions.
When the Asian nuclear alliance firms up, destroys the US dollar, and kicks America out of the middle east, no more middle east oil for America, that's it. The end of America.
Some might be saving the last bullet for themselves. And it's a pretty wise plan. Because things will get that bad.
For a more detailed narrative of America's end, see this (in true GW fashion).
Re: When the Asian nuclear alliance firms up, destroys the US dollar, and kicks America out of the middle east, no more middle east oil for America, that's it. The end of America."
Newsflash to Cranky: Good job that the USA gets almost all its imported oil from Meggico aint it?
Agree with the rest - youre welcome.
Did I miss the "/Sarc" somewhere?
Perhaps you should volunteer for testing of you 'Shoot Patiots Who Bug Me' program.
You make fiddling while Rome burns look like the only option available.
I believe Cranky is castigating GW - and so many other blowhards at ZH - for only flapping their gums while Rome burns.
The only real story here is the establishment of a "Super Committee" whose job it will be to dilute any remaining accountability from Congress allowing for the complete gutting of all social safety net programs and the continued assistance of tax relief and other benefits for the feral, filthy rich elites.
The masses, who have only one strength which is their numbers, will have another layer of smoke and confusion applied to their understanding of government practices via this new Committee.
The theatre of the elected representatives can become a full time career as the real work of slashing all potential benefits for the masses will happen behind the scenes.
Until the american people stand up to this, they very well may start starving in increasing numbers.
We MUST re-elect BO and his sycophant senate butt boys and girls to make sure HE and THEY take the rap for this.

Who's fault is that? - Mr.Princip
Isn't it funny how the Democrats are constantly harping on the "radical" Tea Party wing hijacking the process yet the "solution" is to give an even smaller group official control of the process.
Conyers has been at the trough for so freaking long he would not know what is right from what is wrong if he tried. And he does not ever try. All he cares about is getting reelected, and he has learned that the best way to do that is to take money from those who work for it and give it to those who don't. He could be Obama's daddy in this regard. Get serious. John Conyers has hurt this nation and his State as much, if not more, than about 98% of the thieves and whores on Capitol Hill.
The TRUTH is an orphan. Those in the media who could expose this thief, abdicate their responsibility to broadcast a Confirmation Bias to those poorly served by the likes of Conyers.
Thanks for recognizing it and keeping at least some semblance of reality.
Wow. When The One has lost the race baiting, moron, communist vote, he's in big trouble.
Obamatron can bite my splintery, wooden ass!
GW he's screaming (Conyers) for "The Government" to create jobs and bring us back to full employment - WWII employment figures. Is he asking for another Great War to create jobs? This guy is a senile old coot.
He's pissed for all the wrong reasons.
The Great War... In WWII, did France even make anything? Everyone was fighting and dancing around land mines. Life truly sucked.
I don't often eat sandwiches, but when I do . . . .
"Stay Hungry, my friends." :>D
...they taste like Dos Equis.
I have been there for some time.
Waiting for the "slow" to catch on!
Still waiting.....appears there are quite a few of you.
What Conyers needs to tell everyone from his media pulpit:
"Everyone listening today needs to buy physical Silver. Hold that in your hand, and never release ownership to anyone. AND, while in Washington shout loudly and repeatedly, [end the Federal Reserve, return our country to sound, constitutional money, return our property rights! Continue to buy Silver!]
I have posted multiple times over the last three+ years ......Silver is THE lynchpin to defeating this monetary system. Silver is THE Achilles heel.
When they lose control of Silver, they lose control of Gold, and their PONZI is exposed.
They own ALL the Gold. They own very little Silver. They control the paper market of virtually everything. The physical Silver market is not controllable. A very tiny market with declining excess supply that is today extremely undervalued. This is the next step. I am working on arranging help. Do your part.
1). Confidence.
2). Contagion.
3). Loss of control/End Game.

Dear Mr. Speaker of the House,
It is Sunday, and I am led to believe that the US House of Representatives, in coordination with the Senate and the President, is about to deliver a debt ceiling hike based on promises to cut spending beyond 2012, a debt ceiling hike like never seen before in our nation, cuts to be later delivered by the instrument that has come to be known as a "Super Congress," otherwise known as asking Congressmen in safe districts to vote on spending cuts that will never actually occur, with only the inducement of a balanced budget amendment vote that everyone knows will be killed on the Senate floor.
These things being true, and with the House of Representatives preparing to deliver the compromise through the support of House Democrats, and in a vote demonstrating no confidence for Tea Party members in the House...the only members thus far having demonstrated a true understanding of the fiscal gravity of this mess made by decades of DC born fiscal carelessness....
...I respectfully call on you to resign in your capacity as House Speaker upon casting a vote in support of such a plan.
Cdad
[yet another angry American and former Republican]
This clusterfuck is going to wind up in the Supreme Court. Feel better?
I disagree with you, not because it's not a monumental clusterfuck, but because I simply don't see anyone with stature that will bring it to the Supreme Court. Middle of the road Democrats and Republicans will love this idea, because they'll see it as making them bullet-proof in terms of having to take any responsibility for anything. It's going to be sold as a Joint Select Committee on Economic Recovery, or some other pie-in-the-sky name that has a catchy acronym. "Leaders" from both parties will hail it as the last, best bi-partisan hope to address the debt/deficit problem. When the committee can't come to a final agreement on the methodoolgy for the cuts, the automatic cuts will kick in, and members will campaign in 2012 on how horrible the cuts were because of the __________ (fill in the blank with R or D or TP as appropriate), but behind closed doors, they'll be congratulating each other on how well they skated over that little thorny issue and, once again, 98% of incumbents will be reelected, most with token opposition. In the meantime, the automatic cuts will, naturally, have their intended consequences. Those consequences will be to disproprtionately impact the people paying taxes. I anticipate cuts to infrastructure maintenance and to Social Security recipients. I anticipate that, rather than raising taxes, it will cost $100 for a family of four to enter a National Park such as Yosemite, Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon. In other words, maximum pain for the people that, generally speaking, have absorbed the greatest pain in this recession/depression. The military, if it gets cut at all, will see a weapons system or two that they have already determined to be unncessary, cut, but will see no reduction in the cost of the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Somolia, Yemen (and soon to be Pakistan, Syria and Iran if saber-rattling is any indication). In the meantime, the US economy won't be going anywhere, so the rosy predictions of the deficit being reduced through growth are going to go by the wayside, meaning the $1.6 trillion deficits we're seeing now are going to continue into the foreseeable future.
The end result is going to be downgrades, pushing us further into debt as interest rates climb, and a whole lot of crisp new paper money being created, which will lead to inflation that even the Fed is going to have to recognize.
But, and this is the good news for most people, we'll still have shows like American Idol and Jersey Shore to keep people in their zombie-like state.
"Aside from that Mrs Lincoln, how was the play?"
Should I because I do not feel any better having Judicial shills for big Government affirming that which sociopaths bureaucrats and politic-ados do to undermine what remains of the country!
Super Congress!!
Free Money for the Banks!
Tax Breaks to Corporations to Undermine the Manufacturing Base / Tax base of 7 Million People+++ in 11 years!!
The Government has systematically Gutted America and it continues to this day!
Selling America Off! Gutting America and loading America Up with Debt! Why?
Why????? anyone? why?
The crash has already happened. Just the markets haven't taken notice of it, because the funny money...a.k.a. the fraudulent debt...a.k.a. various bailouts, guarnatees, etc, have kept the illusion alive.
Only Glass-Steagall will rid us of this fraudulent debt, and keep the banksters from putting us on the hook further.
This supercongress is complete bullshit. Mandatory cuts to pay off bankster fraudulent debt. 12 members of congress above all others. "We must have our precious"
A vote for this deal, much like a hitler coup, is a vote for treason. We need MORE accountability, not LESS. We need to reign in wall street banksters, not give in to them. A more accurate read is hitler like uses to benefit banksters. So this bill is a bankster coup.
This is utter capitualation to foisters of fraudulent debt, which gain supereme seinorage over everything else done by Washington. Screw the banksters, and their frauds, not the people.
Sure the bill itself doesn't spell out cuts that are huge, but it sure creates the commission that will hammer down hard on the people, to pay off the banksters frauds, which can and should be cancelled legitimately, via....Glass-Steagall
This bill isn't about the # in the cuts. It's about the COMMISSION which will do wall street bankster's bidding to save their unsavable asses at the expense of the American people.
This is the model it will come from. It won't be the last 'super congress commission' if we let them get away with it.
Fuck Obama
Fuck the Tea Party
Fuck Republicans
Fuck Democrats
Anyone that votes for this, is a traitor to this country. Arrest them.
Glass-Steagall
so, what do you think could possibly correct this problem...possibly reinstate Glass-Steagall??
Hey, you actually got one right, GW: according to the Democrat's summary, this deal includes only $10B in spending reductions--against an already absurdly high baseline--over the next two years. That's a whopping reduction of 0.13% across the FY2012 & FY2013 'budgets' (budget in scare quotes here because congress has not produced a budget in over two years).
This whole charade has been incredible BS and both sides deserve to be tarred and feathered...if not worse.
stop spending debt dollars
starve the beast...
taxpaying sheeple, stop paying your taxes to FED .gov (except on 4/15 every year). that will definitely starve the beast....actually break the the beast....
Maybe if the Kardasians say its ok to
sheep don't mass, they follow
then they get shorn and finally are consumed
