There are now prototypes of machines which can read your mind for a wide variety of purposes.

These are the publicly acknowledged technologies. The real nasty militarized mind control stuff is already in deployment across the U.S. One common configuration of the ELF system is a pipe like pole 2-3 foot in diameter at the base tapering to about 1 foot at the top. They are typically around 20-30 foot in height. You can find them along busy roads or freeways and even in strip shopping centers. They are usually ‘disguised’ as flag poles and bear a cellular phone co. label near the base. They are reported to be tied to super computers at the NSA with oodles of fiber optic cable. IIRC the first experiments to be publicly disclosed were conducted in Norway in 1999. At that time the prototype machines could read an individual’s thoughts at up to 1 ½ miles. It could also plant thoughts in people’s minds without their awareness. It has been speculated that one of the purposes of the Chemtrail poisons, (principally the aluminum dioxide) may serve to extend the range of these weapons systems… These people are insane and We the People are in serious trouble.

A good example in real life of machines supposed to control human activity :

1960 Francis Gary Powers on U2, can't be detected plane, got shot down. OOOOOPs!

2001 : Nineteen paper cutting terrorists did what they did. In the land where all was protected by NSA and instant retaliation. OOOPS!

2011 : The highly sophisticated Drone in Iran was grounded. OOOOPS!

Man always beats the machine. OOOPS. I would be lost without my Mac!

These machines do not read your mind! They are catching neuronal commands essentially for physical and (with respect to typing or reading) visual signal processing. This is not mind reading! This is signal capture and interpretation. When I think picture a scene from Romeo and Juliet and hear in my mind/body's "ear", "She sits upon the check of night as a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear .... " there is no was these signal capturing machines are anywhere close to understanding the though nor the internal experience of that thought which creates meaning. And as Buddah said, and I paraphrase, you can not understand the individual event without the context. So as I walk thru TSA reading a murder scene from Macbeth, even if those silly scanners could access the scene in my mind and the words, this highly doubtful, the meaning will totally escape except coincidently.

This is like the artificial intelligence or the unravelling the genetic code excitement. Nice work, interesting etc. but ultimate will not come close to the hype. On the other hand, the potential for abuse ... wow! Can you imagine some $10.00/hour TSA employee or Guantanamo interogator interpreting meaning?

dude, you don't get it at all. so I shall spell it out for you

1) it doesn't matter at all what these machines in fact do, it matters what the govenment says they can do. (think saddam and wmd). You really miss the whole point to be honest and maybe GW just needs to be a bit more "literal" with some crowd.

2) if I am a government official and i can lock you up without trial, now I say I have a device that allows me to predict if you will do the crim, If I don't like you I'll lock you up. who cares what tehse things really can or can't do as long as they serve my purpose.

The current propaganda department may claim anything, broadcast it a lot, and that way make it appear to be true?

Wow, what a revolutionary discovery.

Sorry, but if THAT was GW's point - thank you master of the obvious. Why did you need sensationalistic tech news again to prove that, if it actually has nothing specifically to do with "the point"?

Bullshit. GW was in this case spewing sensationalistic bullshit, without turning his brain on, and without doing any "original research" nor fact-checking. Or in short, the article plain and simply is bullshit.

PLEASE SEE ALMOST EVERY REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE AND HOW THEY WIN ELECTION AND HOW IN GENERAL ELECTIONS ARE WON. SENSATIONAL SOUND BITES, THAT ARE DIVORCED FROM WHAT WAS SAID, NO REAL FULL DEBATE, ETC. GW IS SMARTLY USING THE TECHNIQUES THAT WORK. IF THE HEADLIND SAID MIND READING MACHINES NOT HERE WOULD YOU BE LOOKING AT THE POST. GAME, SET MATCH.

No, they cannot "read your mind". Do some research GW, instead of just googling stories and linking them.

What they do - after lots of training (similiar to training a speech recognition program) - is that instead of pressing a mousebutton, you just "trigger" an action with a mental stimulus. No "thought-reading" involved here.

exactly.

Sat, 12/24/2011 - 01:35 | 2008856 Rynak
Rynak's picture

I think, for the technically less knowledgeable, a good analogy to explain this, is training a..... dog.

You can train a dog to do perform an action, via ANY speech-pattern. You can train it to sit down, by clearly expressing "sit".... you can train it to sit down, by clearly expressing "place"..... you can train it to sit down, by saying "shit!".... and you can train it to sit down, by saying "rainbows!".

This is how this apparently "magical" kind of tech works. It doesn't understand shit about what you are thinking. It just receives a pattern of neuronal activity (and i may add, at best EMOTIONAL activity, because that results in the clearest most obvious signal.... mainly because emotions IS the experience of signals! Signal capture doesn't get any more pure than emotions).... and it then takes this pattern of mental activity as a trigger, to do something.... just like a dog, that listens for a speech pattern, and blindly is conditioned to respond to it in some way, that may have nothing to do with what you said.

That's the state-of-the-art of that kind of tech. It attempts to identify a reoccuring mental signal pattern.... and then gets programmed to perform ANY action if that trigger is received.

So, this kind of technology explicitely does NOT understand what you mean.... it just recognized reoccuring mental signal patterns, and just like i.e. pressing a mousebutton then executes any command if the input matches.

The probably most amazing thing, that is even remotely close to "understanding", that could be achieved with this, is NOT thought-reading, but "emphathy".... mainly because as i mentioned earlier, clear reoccuring emotions, are the easiest things to identify, because they (for common emotions) produce such a clear reoccuring pattern.

(Yes, that's right. Machines will understand how you feel, long before they understand what you think. Because generic "feelings" contary to popular  culture, are much more similiar to the information computers nowadays work with, than "thoughts". And if you seriously find this suprising, then just ask yourself: What is easier - recognizing if someone feels happy/sad/affraid/confident, or understanding someone else's ideas?).

So, if we're already talking about sci-fi that may become real, the next step is an *overall* recognization of how you feel like (that does NOT include why you feel so, nor the specific details... it's simple stuff like "he's sad", or "he's happy"). That kind of stuff is "reachable", because it is so simple, obvious and generic.

Imagine how close we are now to remote mind controlled weapons.

Mind Corps... don't need to bother with physical training.  Only mental training.  I wonder how fast the reaction time is for these devices.  I've always wanted one to play FPS.  Mind -> Hand -> controller -> Game reaction time is shitty.  Imagine direct Mind -> Game (or weapon system).

Conversely, I could slouch even more at work - I get too lazy to move my mouse and try to think the cursor over. Though now, you wouldn't need a cursor.

Probably a significant lag. How fast the Brain process versus the fastest possible machine implimentation.

You will always be behind in any attack because the processing will be too slow.

That and you don't have the same Biological incentive you do with real world violence.

I read that when you shit yourself it clears the digestive tract allowing your Brain to use more Blood and energy for reactions and processing. But when you piss yourself it is your system overloading.
