Neoconservatives Planned Regime Change Throughout the Middle East and North Africa 20 Years Ago

George Washington's picture

I've repeatedly documented that the Neocons planned regime change in Iraq, Libya, Iran, Syria and a host of other countries right after 9/11 ... if not before.

And that Obama is implementing these same plans - just with a "kindler, gentler" face.

Glenn Greenwald provides further documentation that the various Middle Eastern and North African wars were planned before 9/11:

General Wesley Clark ... said the aim of this plot [to "destroy the governments in ... Iraq, ... Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Iran”] was this: “They wanted us to destabilize the Middle East, turn it upside down, make it under our control.” He then recounted a conversation he had had ten years earlier with Paul Wolfowitz — back in 1991 — in which the then-number-3-Pentagon-official, after criticizing Bush 41 for not toppling Saddam, told Clark: “But one thing we did learn [from the Persian Gulf War] is that we can use our military in the region – in the Middle East – and the Soviets won’t stop us. And we’ve got about 5 or 10 years to clean up those old Soviet regimes – Syria, Iran [sic], Iraq – before the next great superpower comes on to challenge us.” Clark said he was shocked by Wolfowitz’s desires because, as Clark put it: “the purpose of the military is to start wars and change governments? It’s not to deter conflicts?”

[I]n the aftermath of military-caused regime change in Iraq and Libya ... with concerted regime change efforts now underway aimed at Syria and Iran, with active and escalating proxy fighting in Somalia, with a modest military deployment to South Sudan, and the active use of drones in six — count ‘em: six — different Muslim countries, it is worth asking whether the neocon dream as laid out by Clark is dead or is being actively pursued and fulfilled, albeit with means more subtle and multilateral than full-on military invasions (it’s worth remembering that neocons specialized in dressing up their wars in humanitarian packaging: Saddam’s rape rooms! Gassed his own people!). As Jonathan Schwarz ... put it about the supposedly contentious national security factions:

As far as I can tell, there’s barely any difference in goals within the foreign policy establishment. They just disagree on the best methods to achieve the goals. My guess is that everyone agrees we have to continue defending the mideast from outside interference (I love that Hillary line), and the [Democrats] just think that best path is four overt wars and three covert actions, while the neocons want to jump straight to seven wars.

***

The neocon end as Clark reported them — regime change in those seven countries — seems as vibrant as ever. It’s just striking to listen to Clark describe those 7 countries in which the neocons plotted to have regime change back in 2001, and then compare that to what the U.S. Government did and continues to do since then with regard to those precise countries.

Note: The so-called "war on terror" has also weakened our national security and created many more terrorists than it has killed, imprisoned or otherwise stopped.  It is also destroying our economy.

The world of Nineteen Eighty-Four is built around a never-ending war involving the book's three superstates, with two allied powers fighting against the third. But as Goldstein's book explains, each superstate is so strong it cannot be defeated even when faced with the combined forces of the other two powers. The allied states occasionally split with each other and new alliances are formed. Each time this happens, history is rewritten to convince the people that the new alliances were always there, using the principles of doublethink. The war itself never takes place in the territories of the three powers; the actual fighting is conducted in the disputed zone stretching from Morocco to Australia, and in the unpopulated Arctic wastes. Throughout the first half of the novel, Oceania is allied with Eastasia, and Oceania's forces are combating Eurasia's troops in northern Africa.

Midway through the book, the alliance breaks apart and Oceania, newly allied with Eurasia, begins a campaign against Eastasian forces. This happens during "Hate Week" (a week of extreme focus on the evilness of Oceania's enemies, the purpose of which is to stir up patriotic fervor in support of the Party), Oceania and Eastasia are enemies once again. The public is quite abnormally blind to the change, and when a public orator, mid-sentence, changes the name of the enemy from Eurasia to Eastasia (still speaking as if nothing had changed), the people are shocked as they notice all the flags and banners are wrong (they blame Goldstein and the Brotherhood) and tear them down. This is the origin of the idiom, "we've always been at war with Eastasia." Later on, the Party claims to have captured India. As with all other news, its authenticity is questionable.

Goldstein's book explains that the war is unwinnable, and that its only purpose is to use up human labor and the fruits of human labor so that each superstate's economy cannot support an equal (and high) standard of living for every citizen. The book also details an Oceanian strategy to attack enemy cities with atomic-tipped rocket bombs prior to a full-scale invasion, but quickly dismisses this plan as both infeasible and contrary to the purpose of the war.

forget the label neocon and call them the globalist banksters, for what they really are.

calling them "globalist banksters" limits the mind to financial shenanigans and ignores the use of "nationstates" to herd the peoples into defensive invisible boundary stories - like competitive sports & all the HooHaa that accompanies them, including the "rioting" when a team loses - at ZH the bankster story resonates, but the majority who aren't aware or interested will here anything named for the "financial" classes as beyond their ability / desire to comprehend, or even investigate.

although I don't really believe in "hope" - if one wants to hope for more to wake up, the story needs to be broad enough that it can be grasped, at least at the corners & edges. . .

I think you are a bit too narrow in your classification. I perfer the slightly more broad "Globalists" label.

The people we are talking about is comprised of members of the world's ruling class. This includes politicians, hedge fund managers, bankers and captains of industry. They all want to collapse the status quo in favor of even greater power and wealth.

Some might say Beelzebub uses them like sock puppets.

it is also interesting to note that obama had been selected as a future president c. 1990/91.

you could read about the neocon imperialism in the pages of commentary beginning in the 1970s but intensifying in the 80s and 90s....i am surprised someone hasn't trotted out edward lutwak for a last hurrah on imperial aggression but he fucked up with the cheap and innumerable weapons strategy....

brezenski also wrote a mainsttream book on the subject of regime change a few years ago....the neocons knocked off cyrus vance to put brezenski in state in the carter years....

but alas, judgment day shall clarify the real losers and winners....the lord's plan must continue with his vile and wicked servants accomplishing their foul goals....

Thanks to the US Govt's massive spending and trampling of natural rights, you know I agree with you people about much that is discussed herein, but when you trample on the transcendant by denegrating the "resurrection" and the rapture etc as just the hopium of the people, don't forget that your founding fathers who gave their lives and fortunes so you could be free to speak, believed these things. As stupid as the church sounds to some, sometimes, maybe all the time, there is a collective wisdom in their viewpoint that can't be gainsaid.

with respect, the "collective wisdom" of all sky god churches always teach that living as a human on earth is not as "rewarding" as being with your "heavenly fathers" - so no amount of reverence is allocated for the present moments, the goal being "death" and "resurrection."

the earth and the inhabitants cannot be held as sacred as long as the end goal is always death.

We must vote these guys out! Not only were the neocons planning war years ago, the "Patriot Act" was actually sitting in a desk drawer, ready-to-go.  Did it not seem strange that 20 pounds of paper outlining the Act suddenly appeared, complete, within weeks of 9-11? You'd think comprehensive legislation would take months to draw up. The Neocons were ready, waiting to pounce on the American people! The "DHS" was invented to control Americans, not rout out 'terrorists!'  This next election may be our last, unless it is already too late!

I'm sure if you think about it, you'll realise "we" are past the "voting" stage - by a good few decades and more - as at least the past half dozen "elections" have proved.

and sorry, but if you truly believe those in governance are fully corrupt, voting will not resolve this either - no ONE is going to "save" the amrkn world, it's history - act accordingly!

thinking in terms of "voting' plays right in to their hands - they set up the false paradigm, they own the Diebold electronic polling booths, they own the televised reporting of results, they own the politicians selected.  and no ONE can change this, no ONE is powerful enough - the "one MAN can save us!!" meme needs to be seen for what it is - a placating fairy tale.

First, you have to get rid of the Federal .gov. Don't waste your time trying to pin blame on individuals yet.

There'll be plenty of time for trials later when we have access to all the files they are keeping secret, for "national security" (ie. their security) reasons, of course.

In WWII, Hitler and his generals had to be removed before any trials could be planned.

Nuremberg was a show trial meant to divert attention from the allies own war crimes and enshrine the holocau$$$$t into place. The Nazis were tortured and blackmailed into false confessions. The Pearl Harbor attack was instigated by the Roosevelt administration. Both the British and the US had broken the Japanese code and knew when and where they would attack. Roosevelt and Marshall let 2,500 men die so we'd have a reason to enter the war. Read "Day of Deceit".

We need a real trial this time of all the guilty parties right down to the planners and financiers of this phony 'war on terror'.

Completely true, that.

It's up to each succeeding American generation to either admire "the sacred document" or to blandly salute "the sacred document" because "these Truths" may be self-evident but they are not "self-fullfilling".

and history IS written by the victors...

The Rowdy's won back then but Imagine an English win...

The American revolution would have been a tree, falling in the woods, no sound, no "shot heard round the world", no shining city on the hill" or "last best hope of humankind".

Just Business... as usual.

The way I see it, a stealth contest was waged in the People's intervening abscence and the People lost. There are new victors in place and history is in the process of being re-written.

Russia to send warships to Syria in 2012: report

Russia will send a flotilla of warships led by its only aircraft carrier to its naval base in Syria for a port call next year amid tensions with the West over the Syrian crisis, a report said Monday.

The ships, headed by the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier, will dock at the little-utilised Russian base in the Syrian port of Tartus in spring 2012, the Izvestia daily said, quoting the Russian navy.

The Tartus base, a strategic asset for Moscow dating back to Soviet times, is rarely used by Russian vessels and currently no Russian ship is based there although civilian and military personnel are present.

"Neocon" is a broad label GW and like-minded statists use.  From the article, apparently GW believes Barry is one of "their" puppets.  But we never know because the label is never really defined.

Mon, 11/28/2011 - 15:19 | 1921938 Cathartes Aura

here, let me help - "neo" = "new"  "con" = "conservative" (in current parlance, the Repub team)

so, "neo-con" is a name adopted by the likes of PNAC to differentiate themselves as more dedicated to the neo-colonising of the world by those who create wars in order to gain resources & territory.

I know I'm being facetious here, perhaps you were as well?

apparently GW believes Barry is one of "their" puppets.

and you don't?  maybe you'd like to define "like-minded statists" for the game?

I defer to Mark Levin's Liberty and Tyranny for a full description of the actions that a statist values and pursues.

You see, a label is just that.  What defines ideology is actions - not even one's statements count, really, because of political rhetoric and duplicity.  So when you say "a name adopted by," you are referring to a label.

Someone whose actions are conservative is someone who first and foremost supports maximal self-direction of the fruits of one's labor, constrained only by the need to not infringe on others' capacity to do the same.

When you attach "neo" or some other ginned-up tag in order to serve some agenda (often of blame), you warp the whole discussion and disallow anything positive to be ascribed to any component of the label.  That's why "liberal" is such a polarizing word, even though classic liberalism actually refers to a conservative set of principles.

GW is polarizing with his labels, and I suspect he is hardly aware of it because he is a magnet for like-minded folks.  I was just repeating what he said - that OBama is carrying out what he labels "the neocon agenda."  Those are his sentiments, not mine.  I did that to point out how silly the whole labeling issue is.  Barry a neocon - no one would buy that, right?  But look at his actions in the context of YOUR OWN definition and, well, if the shoe fits...

Carry on, my buzzardly friend.

Yes, this has been and is "the plan".  It was crafted by PNAC (Project for a New American Century).  This thinktank has changed its name since being discovered.  William Kristol is one of the leaders, along with Wolfowitz.  They are a disgusting group of neocons....but even moreso, they are closet NEW WORLD ORDER GLOBALISTS!  They intend to get rid of any dictatorship who is not cooperative with their global government plan.  Of course, oil and war profits are also involved, but it is primarily about "order out of chaos"...a NEW order....a GLOBAL one....run by the banksters and their puppet politicians.

Two great books:

  • "War Is a Racket", by General Smedley Butler, illustrates the purposes and horror of the wars;  a very quick read and so enlightening
  • "Tavistock Institute of Human Relations" by John Coleman, reveals how we have been completely lied to and brainwashed regarding foreign affairs since before WW1, in order to gain public sentiment for the wars.  Breathtaking revelations that will change you forever!
