If these demonstrations were held by Wall Street execs protesting against their puny bonuses there would be red carpets and ticker-tape everywhere.

stop acting like Mubaraks' thugs?!?

for a guy who purposefully labelled this Tahrir Square 2.0 George, you're getting awfully choosy about casting....

another case of 'American exceptionalism,' or just further proof of the playacting nature of media driven protest movements in general?  Was that supposed to be ketchup in your script? Who do we blame...the caterer?

NYPD go home, we are not at war with you.  Continue to protect the banking cartels, and you will likely see collateral damage.  You may be the last to lose your pensions, but believe me, when the financiers are done with you, just like the mob or drug cartels, you will * be eliminated. Join us now, or step out of the way, either way, let us through.  The protesters are peaceful.  It is the police and especially the white shirts (bleached brown shirts) who are the aggressors.

WHITE SHIRTS = BROWN SHIRTS.  Wake the fuck up now before you end up like the jews in Germany.  Is it really that fucking hard to see, even knowing it happened in the recent recorded history?  We even live in the Homeland for fucks sake.  I don't give a crap what economic system you want for yourself, do not impose it on me, and come out to fight the real enemy, the financiers who are destroying the world.

* not did not belong there. damn.

A policman is committing an assault if he simply goes in bashing people with a baton unless it is in self defence.

Those policemen swinging batons should be charged, discharged and imprisoned. They think they are in Libya?

It appears to me the police here are trying to provoke the protesters to violence. Maybe so they have excuse to escalate their own violence. Are the NY police being paid off by the banksters to bash people without cause and escalate the violence? It appears so.

This is counter productive because this type of behaviour by the police will only bring 10s of thousands more onto the streets in absolute outrage. This doesn't seem it is going to end until their is a pitched war between banksters and the general public. The banksters will have paid for police and private armies. The public their own blood.

The real enemy of the people, enemy of the USA is in your own backyard. Banksters, their paid for Congressmen and some corrupt police departments and corrupt regulators. Good luck America but it seems your only chance IS if the entire economy crashes in a heap and the reset button pushed. Sure glad I don't live there.

I agree, the police have no idea what they are messing with.  They clearly have no idea what kind of effect their own petty violence has on crowds.  It is almost comical to see them taking all the wrong steps because now they are just getting tired of being there.  The protestors have worn them down and are winning the chess match.  It should be clear to them by now that this is the real deal because it is long lasting and getting bigger instead of going away.

The purpose of terrorism is to start a wider war.  You can apply that to this situation in that the protestors are tricking the police into escalation.

Meanwhile Obama is on a bus tour.  ROFLOL

If it was a war you wanted to start you could do that with an M1A 308 rifle (or take your pick) and 60 rounds firing from a standoff of a block away and then leave the weapon in the apartment / office you started firing from.

  • I state .308 because hits from above are going to slip past vests and/or punch holes in the IIIA crap those white shirts are probably wearing.
  • Start tagging cops and protestors and watch the violece ratchet up to lethal levels in seconds.
  • Total cost to initiate a massacre?  2000 bucks maybe.

There are something on the order of 300 million firearms in the USA.  It's not difficult to get semi-automatic rifles into NYC at all.

The tipping point will be when the police are out numbered to the point where they can't protect their own or retaliate. The nation as we know it will change-- could be good --but most likely bad.

At that point they call in the Guard, set up checkpoints, and decide if they want to "relocate" the protestors or have a bloodbath.

Since this isn't going away, sooner or later they likely go for the bloodbath.  Will the Guard do it??  Probably they send in a unit fresh back from the sandbox, to maximize their odds??

Either way, things get "interesting" afterwards.  Those living in the cities might want to evaluate their buildings for bullet resistance and fire hazard.  Might want to be able to stay inside for a week or two, unless you are equipped and trained to play Army.

Many of you agree with these people and their militant stance - which is fine in concept.

However, when they can't protest against government anymore due to crackdowns and they still need to take their frustrations out of someone because the video game they just played showed them how to kill people quickly and efficiently - guess who that will be?

Yup - you and your family.

I post on a site that is covering this extensively.  You would not believe the discord b/t posters over this protest.  This is complicated....here are my observations:

  • I support anyone's 1st amendment right to protest peacefully, even communists.
  • This movement is being co-opted by the left, but even more by the globalists, who happen to love marxism!
  • The protestors who call for an end to capitalism do not understand that WE DO NOT LIVE UNDER a free market system, and haven't since 1913.  We live in a corporatist, collectivist state ruled by big spending politicians in bed with central banker like the FED.  These youngsters have NO idea what a free market economy looks like!
  • The globalist banksters and corporations LOVE this protest b/c it makes them look like the victim.
  • A better nationwide protest is going to happen starting Friday, called OCCUPY THE FED, by those who know that the FED is destroying our country, not capitalism.
  • Watch an AMAZING interview of G Edward Griffin, author of "Creature from Jekyll Island" on infowars.com.  He describes what is going on SO eloquently and accurately.

\

Infowars has good articles covering the protests and exposes those who are funding and co-opting these protests.  Check it out at:   infowars.com

Actually, although it is already too cold for me and my arthritis to occupy shit, anywhere, I suspect that these younger people will make a point of staying.  I remember enjoying winter camping back in the day, properly equipped.

Imagine the dramatic impact of folks camping on the streets in howling snow storms.

I don't think they're gonna retreat.

Actually, I don't think it will get that far.  I see this ending/winding down one of two ways:

1) The group fractionalizes as competing agendas grow with more and more groups trying to co-opt the protest (if you're a Monty Python fan, think of the Judean People's Front vs. the People's Front of Judea).

or

2) A common agenda begins to form and the protests escalate.  If this occurs, I expect the opposing side infiltrates to stir up trouble (turn it into the London riots), thus justifying a massive crack down on the whole thing.

Just my opinion.

In some Polish protests, they brought 1,000 miners with hammers, and other heavy tools. You would be surprised how well behaved the police was, facing these miners. Any miners left in Pennsylvania or West Virginia?

Bring ultrasound devices - will work miracles on the mounted police. It would be fun watching horses doing Zorro dance.

Is it just me or is the gap widening not only between the rich and the poor, but the material and spiritual (and I do not mean religeon)? There IS an awakening, an increased awareness, not only of why things are happening, but also of what we are, what we have become and how much we have strayed from our purpose ... and yet, there are those who are seemingly still completely blind.

My belief is that we should forget what we have been educated to believe; forget what the mainstream is propagandizing; forget materialism that creates massive polarization and has historically lead to the destruction of every human society for at least the last severy hundred thousand years and more likely millions... and relearn to use our own reason to sort it out and think for ourselves. Whether we have external help or not, the facts say that we kill ourselves off and restart over and over and over again. We are moths drawn to the material flame because our material form is designed to challenge us .... and most of the time, our wings ignite, we are given new wings and we have to relearn to fly.

So many questions that we simply choose to ignore.

Because man lives by good intentions alone. No need for food, clothing and homes. The most successful societies are those with the fewest goods and the least amount of services.

Here's your wake up call: material advancement doesn't lead to polarization and violence, envy does.

But you requested that  I quit my job so someone else could have it.  So you do want something from me which I would prefer not give up. That's redistributionism plain and simple. It also ignores the fact that gainful employment of one leads to gainful employment for others. When one man increases his productivity more opportunities arise for others, not less.

Per your logic, get more productive and then offer one of those protesters a job.  That's what I'm saying. It can't work, because the demand is not there, because people cannot afford the products, because they don't have adequate incomes.  It's a cycle that started with diminishing income (corrupt capitalists) / increased costs (inflation).

Thu, 10/06/2011 - 12:03 | 1746039 CrockettAlmanac.com

The question is how will these problems be fixed, by increasing government action or reducing government action? These protesters and their union allies would seem to be firmly in the "let government fix it" camp.

Restore sound money and free markets and the jobs will come. It's no coincidence that as government has become more centralized and powerful and the currency has been degraded that the wealth gap between rich and poor has widened. People need to be free to hire and work and to not have to involuntarily give away half of their income for some nebulous social benefits.

That's what I'm talkin' about.  Consideration has to be made of the deep history and the long future.  History did not start with capitalism and it won't end with it either.  The thing to remember and reconsider regularly is, what the fuck is the money for.  It was meant to signal ones participation in the economy... opportunities and responsibilities existed, and everyone had to do some of the work.  We do not live in that world any longer.  We do not need to live by those rules, and in fact, as the protests WORLD WIDE reveal, the conditions do not exist any longer.

I am very disappointed so many here have dismissed the protesters and the cause.  Putting blinders on will not make the problem go away.  It will just make it hard to see who is beating you when the time comes.  If that's all you want, I won't bother trying to help you.

Thanks Bartanist for some sanity and clarity.

well said both. This is definitely a profound historical moment as we see an economic "system," an empire and a global trade arrangement collapse from both corruption and self destructive planning for resource constriction and debt. "Austerity" is coming whether we want it or admit it or not. It will evaporate a lot of fictional "wealth" and force us to grapple with our priorities, our morality, and our human character. The same self serving forces will try to divide and distract us from the true characters and causes for this disaster.
