Occupy Wall Street Launching First Nationwide General Strike In America Since 1946

George Washington's picture

Rumors have been flying for a week that the Occupy protesters will be launching a nationwide general strike. We have been biting our tongue waiting for a formal decision.

Mother Jones tweets:

From our reporter at General Assembly just now MT @timmcdonnell: General strike passes with 1184 votes of approval

JackalAnon tweets:

STRIKE APPROVED FOR NEXT WEDNESDAY! GENERAL STRIKE FIRST TIME IN THE USA SINCE 1946!

(The last American general strike was also in Oakland).

The strike will occur on November 2nd.

One of the founders of the Tea Party – conservative Karl Denninger –  supports the strike (and see this).

Occupy Wall Street in New York has also been considering a proposal for a general strike. And there are also rumors of a global general strike next year.

The Pen is mightier than the sword...but no match for the gun. As we will presently see. First Tuesday in November, 2012: Then: 60 days to Fort Sumter.

Wakanda,

This is a forum. George Washignton is proposing a discussion here.

You correctly adressed that 'something' is better than 'nothing'. And to see people in the streets is a start.

Something is better than nothing, and ACTS are better than words. OWS are not doing something. They are whining. Peacefully. And they are the ones getting kicked. I'm sad to say that, since I expected diferently.

And you're right about no risk no gain, and that's why it's still not a mature point: people are not sufficiently opressed to hit back as they should. Stop paying taxes, that hurts. Stop using banks and cards.

I don't know what is the true average feeling about ows around here, but if other zhers feel like I do, they are somewhat disapointed.

Why: Because whenever someone try to raise a voice to REALLY DO SOMETHING, nobody is there to back it. Try it, and you will see. Nothing will be achieved by chanting, giving hands, specially when people are consistently being punched in the face just for standing by the sidewalk, while their fellow protesters do nothing. This is fear. We need courage, you're right, but so the people out there in the cold. And the winter is about in NY.

I am for the OWS, and for it to go to next stage. But i'm not the majority. The pigs at the top are dirty. Removing them is a dirty job, no workaround that. No protests to touch the heart of politicians will bring change.

Remember that the golden rule for gov't  is to ALLOW peaceful protests and to subdue non-peaceful. Why is that?

Storming the NYSE or the Liberty 33rd would be courage. But how many people really want to hang'em by the balls, instead of a tribal meeting?

The OWSers presence (yes even the chanting and drumming) in Liberty square is making the suits in the buildings around them uncomfortable.  The suits know they are on the inside of a fixed game and that the screwed are pissed and watching from below.  That is way more than whining, that is social pressure that is felt every day.

The protesters are attempting to go through a learning process in the public eye.  It can be scary and they sometimes feel vulnerable.  "What if we screw up and fail?"  Will they wake up and see the invisible chains around their minds, their wallets?  I'm betting they eventually will.  It's called Liberty Square for a reason an it's a very good thing that it's just around the corner from the most powerful institution in the US, the NY Fed.

We are about to turn the current paradigm on its ear.  Instead of the people fearing the government, it is time for government to fear the people.

It is not yet time to peacefully storm the Fed, but the groundwork is being laid.  Many of the OWSers are wacked, but that is OK with me.  Here is to the crazy ones!!

Wakanda and whstlblwr,

I think you may be right. OWS is a sight and I've noticed how some media chills was shitting panties when it started. Perhaps this will still become what it is needed to really purge humanity from moneylenders and borrowers.

I wonder what will be the Tavistock response to our times.

I think it depends where you go, not all whining. Look at news coverage now. It's making mark. Concerns are in news everyday. And this takes time. Action, demands will come

FYI, I've been on my own General Strike for 11 years now.  No regrets.

Biggest mistake could have been shooting the Marine, Scott Olsen in the face by a thug cop. Not a good thing and when the other Marines and servicemen along with the Navy Seals learn that they were and are being taken out on purpose ..premeditated , I predict it can get a whole lot uglier NWO

Yes.  This Marine thing is like a subplot.  Did you see the earlier Marine who went down to Wall Street and took on 30 cops?  They were scared shitless of him and wouldn't do anything.  Even the "$37/hr paid by Wall St. white shirts" were scared of the guy.  Check it out.

I think you meant to say..."you're a semi doucebag."  The word "you're" is a contraction of the words "you are."  Example:  You're a mindless tool.

The word "your" is a possesive pronoun.  Your welfare check, your body odor, etc.

Karl is a Libertarian which is the 3rd largest political party by stated membership; they usually get about 1% of the general election vote, but in recent years they've won some local races.

Far from Commie ideas, the Libertarians want small government at the Fed level, pretty much limited to defending the borders.  They say let the states handle the rest.  They would like to abolish the Fed, IRS, and most of the other 3 letter agencies.

If you agree with me that collapse is becoming unavoidable, don't despair, prepare! http://www.collapsenet.com/262.html

Buying gold , silver, guns and ammo. The best action is to opt out of the system. A one day strike doesn't mean crap. People will just buy what they were going to buy the day before or the day after. The same thing with work( for those slackers who have jobs) the productivity will be made up the day after the strike. Until you guys get it through your head that the fed is the problem then it will be business as usual.

The Fed is the problem for sure, but it is not the only problem.  OWS has picked up the talking about the poison in the food, which is a good, good thing.  I saw an article about additives and how the corporations themselves determine  if what is put in the food is safe, and then they don't even have to show the FDA their research.  The interesting thing about it wasn't the article.  I know that already.  It was the comments about the article that interested me.  People talked about how this is what OWS means when they talk about poison in the food.

I've been a foodie for about a 15 months now.  I had to make all our food from scratch because my daughter had a long list of food allergies.  Her allergies went away after a few months off the processed foods, but we all felt so much better that there was no way we were going back on the crap.  So, I've been watching these kind of articles for awhile, and there used to be more disbelief that the food was bad for you before.  OWS is making a difference.

My daughter does much better without wheat, dairy, and most processed foods.  Her mind is clearer, more focused.  Nice to see the OWSers advocating healthy eating.

Bad guess Bruin.

Actually, having worked for close to 50 years, and still working, having fought for my country in a war alongside the US, I'm sitting on my 100 acre country property, listening to the birds and watching, via the internet, a bunch of spoiled munchkins who supported the rise of socialism in the US, now complain because it doesn't give them coffee and donuts in bed each morning, without having to do any work.

Do I think most of what happens on Wall Street is a ripoff?  Sure.  Do I think it happens because big government, inconsistent with the US constitution, has got into bed with financial cronies, to ripoff ordinary Americans.  Sure do, that's what socialism does for you everytime.

Do I think the mental midgets in OWS mainly voted for Obama and the Democrats, the party of socialism?  Sure do.

Time they took Mr Cain's advice, got off their arse, looked for a job, and stopped voting for people who promise to give them something for nothing, but when in power give you all nothing for something.

Looking at the balance of +/- on my initial post, it's obvious this board is aswarm with the same mix of "gimme somethin' for nothin'" mental midgets.

If it's going to be in one city only, then one day is not enough.

A one day general strike would could have a powerful impact, but only if it were national and if enough people participated. Nevertheless, I think it's a great idea and I hope it gets some attention.

[Some Tea Party people are supporting the strike, more will as OWS reaches out.]

My rosy red arse, the tea party people I know, and I know a lot, want nothing to do with the anarchist hippies of OWS. That should not be confused with a lack of desire to see Obama and the bernank tarred and feathered. Just don't confuse statist/anarchists with constitutionalists, a whole big difference.

Karl Denninger is only good when his meds have kicked in. I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in his bringing anyone to the party.

Get real. Tea Party over. Wake up. If you know lots Tea Party like you say, the ones we know, are like us and stopped support after too lazy or corrupt to Occupy Wall Street.

This is great comic relief. Less than 1% will strike on Nov. 2nd. So I guess the 99% who are working hard at work or finding a job should start chanting about the evil 1% who are refusing to work and to hell with the consequences to innocent bystanders as a result of their strike.

I won't hold my breath.... if you watch Jamie Oliver's cooking program for american schools, you will see that the people have been brought up brain dead  from the moment they are born...

the children do not know what basic ingredients of their food are... they are so used to junk being served up to them that tastes like rubbers with no proper nutrients... so they get even more brain dead as they grow older..

the Fed? all that word means to them is they are 'fed' with processed mush to keep them incapable of thinking beyond the next two seconds of adverts on television

Great, more harm to small businesses.  The Communist and Nazi parties lent support to this movement a few weeks or so back and this is right out their playbook.

All that can be done if they get violent, as the OccupyOaklandlanders did the other night, is to hose'em, cuff'em, and fine'em.
