As I noted earlier today, the problem is the militarization of U.S. police forces:

They are suffering more directly from the contraction of the FIRE sector and from the contraction of the public workforce. Government expansion has been one giant sponge that absorbs excess graduates, and it's now saturated. So, we have these protests...

Cops have always been thugs. Nothing new there. So are most OWS protesters. They hinder the use and enjoyment of PUBLIC places. Public places are not just for ("whiney, no solid platform but Communism"(???) are you fuckin kidding in this day and age?!), but public places are for the public. They have been there long enough and have caused enough damage, and don't have any legit platform. This is why we hire cop thugs. It is now; after two months, time to unleash them and send these dirtbags back home.

Although I agree with the author, this was hardly a "beating" and it was clear that the action was ordered in hopes of initiating a violent response from what were very clearly peaceful protesters. You will see more and more of this until the police and the kleptocrats behind those badges get what they keep hoping for - a viloent response.
Personally, I can not wait for a few more of my brothers in arms to come home. I hire veterans, but I am always surprised by those who don't. Idle hands will find something to do, somethings never change. hedge accordingly.
