Radioactive Leak at California Nuclear Power Plant
The Los Angeles Times reported yesterday:
Officials at the San Onofre nuclear power plant shut
down one of the facility’s two units Tuesday evening after a sensor
detected a possible leak in a steam generator tube.
The Orange County Register pointed out:
After an unplanned, precautionary shutdown of a reactor at the San Onofre nuclear plant Tuesday,
a plant spokesman said Wednesday that a possible leak in one of the
reactor’s steam generator tubes could have resulted in a tiny release
of radioactive material into the atmosphere.
AP notes today:
A tiny amount of radiation could have escaped into the
atmosphere from a Southern California nuclear power plant after a water
leak prompted operators to shut down the reactor as a precaution,
officials said Wednesday.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokesman Victor Dricks said radioactive gas “could have” escaped the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station on the northern San Diego coast.

The leak occurred in equipment that was installed in the plant in the
fall of 2010. The leak occurred in one of thousands of tubes that
carry radioactive water from the Unit 3 reactor.
However, the company has found damage to other tubes, Dricks said.
“The damage that they have found to many other tubes is unusual, and they are attempting to identify the reason,” Dricks said.
While the nuclear operator – Southern California Edison – says that
only a tiny amount was released, and would pose no health problems, that’s what operators always say after a nuclear accident.

Ann Coulter needs to stuff a fuel rod up her/his fart box.
Hey GW, don't remember if you've posted anything on the police transmissions from 9/11 about the van exploding on King St.? Also some buried news reports about the failed GW Bridge bombing etc...

Preach it Brother! Preach it!!
san onofre........right next to a place called trestles which is a legendary socal surf spot.....a place i try to go back to every summer if i can... near a gorgeous beach town called san clemente.....tricky dicks western white house was there....we can only hope that this is low grade incident that results in no long lasting impairments for either the residents, the environment, the plant or it's workers.....
The killing, dumbing, debting, cheating, sickening of us minions won't end until everyone "has" it.
But but but we got cheap electricity.
Good way to sterilize the prols. Too many people you know. Only enough room for the ruling oligarchy and their gophers. Take the vaccines. Cancer is good. Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are looking out for you… Nothing a matter with a little radiation. Radioactive isotopes have been intentionally put in the water for the last thirty years. Do what the Rockefeller minions say.
A nuke reactor in SoCal is madness. But this is a State that is scheming to build a 100 billion fiatsco high speed rail to nowhere with fiat they ain't got. Daily life consists of mumbling WTF as the crazed politicos march onward to Greece.
The process to map out the route has already cost hundreds of millions without the first rail being laid. It will be years before they start, and by then another gov and pres will pull the plug. But you'll put a lot of "planners" on the payroll for at least two years. Waste. Spend the $$ on schools.
But wait if its going to be a bridge train to nowhere at least its pork for a large population state. </sarc>
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn

The costs and risks are outweighing the benefits. The debate over nuclear facility maintenance and safety is a never - ending circular discussion. The industry insists that nuclear power is safe. I think we know by now, that it's not.

Great example of what is wrong with global corporations.
Nuclear power is safe, organic life however...
