Remembering Steve Jobs: 15 Fascinating Facts You Don't Know About

Sadly, Mr. Steve Jobs, Apple founder and CEO till a few months ago, passed away on Wed. Oct 5, 2011 at age 56 after losing a long battle to cancer. Mr. Jobs was a true technology titan who forever changed our personal and business computing world with an array of innovative and cool digital consumer and entertainment products.

New York Times noted,

"Mr. Jobs was neither a hardware engineer nor a software programmer, nor did he think of himself as a manager. He considered himself a technology leader, choosing the best people possible, encouraging and prodding them, and making the final call on product design."

It is that "final call on product design" has set Apple apart from the pack and propelled the company to briefly top Exxon as the world's largest company in market cap.  And indeed, the first new product launch in Mr. Job's absence--iPhone 4S--underwhelmed investors and Apple stocks suffered a heavy 4% sell-off immediately after the release.

However, we think most likely Apple could have encountered some kind of a problem pushing out iPhone 5 on time, and made iPhone 4S a quick fix rather than missing the launch deadline.  On the other hand, we don't believe iPhone 4S (in its current state) would have even seen the light of the day if Mr. Jobs were still at the helm, and he would have managed public expectation a lot better as well.

Mr. Jobs has been the face, image, heart and soul of Apple for decades, and Apple executives no doubt will face this question--WWSJD (What Would Steve Jobs Do)-- in the foreseeable future.  The infographic below documents some of the interesting yet less known facts about Mr. Jobs.  Our thoughts go out to Mr. Jobs' family.

Just imagine if Americans didn't have their idols to consume their time worshiping.  They may have to actually think about important things like the left/right paradigm fucking us out of our standard of living and ruining everything so there is nothing left for our children.

Remember when everything used to be 'for the children'? Don't see that trotted out these days - unless talking about obesity - wonder what changed?

I agree with what you are saying but maybe it is a human impulse to glorify individuals - making the story personal.  For me, my first computer was a Mac and I will never forget the first web page I created - saw endless possibilities.  Then I discovered Unix ....

We do, and we glorify individuals in hope that if we do then one day we will be glorified.

What do you mean?  That word translates loosely.

I am telling you, just to reiterate, that you are using a fallacious argument.  We may using computers, and yes, if none of us did then the system would change, but like a boddhisatva reaching enlightenment, we would all have to change our ways.  Jobs on the other hand could have not practiced slave labor, and he could have changed the world.

Jobs was a whore for the fascist system.

Designed in California. Made in China.

It's a sprawling place where 200,000 people work and sleep meaning this iPod City has a population bigger than Newcastle's. Arriving at the gates, the visitor is initially struck by the giant billboards inviting anyone over 16, the legal working age here, to apply for jobs. Workers live in dormitories on the site, 100 to a room, arriving with a few possessions and a bucket to wash their clothes. The accommodation may be free, but it comes at a cost ? no one outside the plant is allowed to visit the workers. Security is high everywhere, but especially in the five-storey E3 factory which makes the Nanos. Police not security guards are stationed on all gates, studiously checking those entering and leaving the site to thwart rivals intent on industrial espionage.

so Apple investigated (that was 2006)

"The team reviewed personnel files and hiring practices and found no evidence whatsoever of the use of child labour or any form of forced labour," Apple said in a report on its Web site that summarised the findings of its audit of the facility.

However, the probe did find that in many cases workers were exceeding the company's limits for overtime, which specify a maximum of 60 hours or six days a week.  Apple said its inspection found that in at least two instances workers were made to stand at attention for disciplinary reasons.

"The owner of this massive, highly controlled iPad and iPhone factory has also decided to install something he's dubbed 'ai xin wang' - which translates literally as 'nets of a loving heart' (ya gotta love the sheer BALLS of the Chicoms)In reality, these 'loving hearts' are 10ft high wire fences on the roofs and 15ft wide nets at the base of all buildings. The human traps are to prevent people jumping to their deaths and smashing themselves on the pavements below."

Apple's Steve Jobs started life as an abandoned child. The father of Steve Jobs is a Muslim from Syria, Abdulfattah Jandali, born in 1931 and still alive in America today. When Steve was born out of wedlock, the parents of Steve's German-American mother, Joanne Schieble, was not allowed by her parents to marry a Muslim, and Joanne was pushed to give up the baby Steve for adoption, to the couple Paul and Clara Jobs.

Some time after the adoption, Steve's biological parents did marry, and had another child, Steve Jobs' sister, the novelist Mona Simpson (née Jandali).

Though it seems they recently came to know of each other, it appears Steve Jobs and his father never met, Steve feeling abandoned, and Mr Jandali not going to the side of his dying son, or meeting his grandchildren fathered by Steve, because the father was afraid of looking like he was chasing Steve's money.
