My friend and I have always had these long talks about philosophy, ideology etc. Some things we agree on, others we don't. I'm glad somebody mentioned Gandhi, because that was one of history's best lessons in fighting an empire through non-violence.
But it wasn't non-violence that finally caught the attention of the British Empire, or, for that matter violent mass riots - they could have gone on forever. It was the economic attack on the British institutions and industry that forced the British government to take Gandhi seriously. The first flag of the Indian National Congress had a spinning wheel in the center, to symbolise the struggle for economic freedom inspired by Gandhi's "Home Spun" ethos. The Salt March in 1930 protested the British Salt Act of 1882, a ridiculous law that made it illegal for Indians to make or sell salt, making it a complete British monopoly.
If you think about it, there are many more monopolies that are controlled by the financial institutions/government today, fiat currency being the most obvious. In order for the #OWS movement to win, they must encourage non-violent, non-compliance in the system. That may mean not buying your goods from multinationals. Not going to fast food franchises. Accepting and paying for goods and services with "hard" currency. And taking your money out of TBTF banks (If you're too stupid not have done it already) - maybe putting it away in a credit union. Anything and everything you can think of to bring down the revenue streams and power base of TPTB, without getting yourself in jail (That only feeds the highly lucrative prison system), or hurt. The truth is, even if you do nothing wrong, you're still likely to be arrested, beaten or shot like poor Scott and others, so be aware of the risks you are taking by not being a compliant sheep. Personally, the only thing I will be doing is economic non-compliance. I won't incite others to do what I myself am not willing to do.
As a participant in OWS NYC, I have been advocating that we not try to fight the powers that be, we just ignore them and rebuild our own institutions the way we want, organized the way we want, so that the existing power withers from neglect and lack of infusion of funds / assets. Fighting their system is much more difficult than creating your own. Do not fall into the trap of fighting them... first establish your own institutions. The tactic is being used by finance right now against governments / nations.

The first 3 to 4 months you work each year goes to the private bankers of the Federal Reserve via the IRS to pay them for interest on our debt. Congress creates tons of debt as favors to the central bankers because the central bankers have bought Congress, but for a very few members, like Ron Paul.
