Much as I love Jeff Beck, you can see why Stevie decided to release the song himself after BB&A's stab at it.
I think you have it reversed. Stevie released the song then Beck covered it.
Musically the beat is very different. Carmine Appice did a very strange syncopated beat.
The original song was not really written for guitar soloing, that is why guitar bands prefer Becks take. However, if you are in a dance bar, the original version is what you will hear.
AppIce is considered a god by many drummers.
