W2.0:Rick Perry Wants To Try Ben Bernanke For Treason

lizzy36's picture

Texas Governor Rick Perry suggested in Iowa today that should Bernanke "print more money" before the election that it would be treason. Treason is a capital offense.

Speaking just now in Iowa, Perry said, “If this guy prints more money between now and the election, I dunno what y’all would do to him in Iowa but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas. Printing more money to play politics at this particular time in history is almost treasonous in my opinion.” Treason is a capital offense.

One is not sure if Governor Perry is taking aim at monetary policy here or trying to win over Ron Paul supporters. However, advocating violence against a sitting Federal Reserve Chairman does not really sound all that Presidential.

Someone might also want to remind the Governor that suggesting Texas secede from the Union might also be construed as Treason. But I digress.

I don't know about you gang but I am really looking forward to 16 more months of rhetoric, hyperbole and all things related to the $3B auction, Americans so innocently refer to as the presidential election of 2012

The Ron Paul aficionados are going to get their hearts broken again when he gets summarily dispatched in the primaries.

When the general election comes down to Obama and Perry, I hope they have the good sense to get on board and send Obama packing.

You begin with a slanderous statement, and finish with an opinion.  Maybe you should touch up on some logic, and then get back to us.

The part you maybe don't get is that we don't believe that what a politician say's carries much weight. Hate to break the news too ya, but what these clowns say has a tendency not to hold much correlation with reality. The obvious is that Perry thinks he can snag some RP support by talking trash about the FED.

Good luck with that.

Yup, he completely declined to offer his opinion on the Fed ('I'll take a pass on the Federal Reserve right at the moment') beyond some 'tough guy' rhetoric,  It is clear that he doesn't have his anti-Fed talking points memorized yet and 'wisely' chose to defer to what he does know...  fed equals money printing, his constituents don't like money printing, his constituents like 'tough talking leaders'.

Someone should tell Perry that this is what the Federal Reserve does- they print money.  If he did not already know that I think he should sit in on an Econ 101 class.

Dos, the Fed prints money.  He did not say he wanted to shut the Fed down, he said they should not print money.  If he said he wanted to end the Fed, that would be one thing, but his comment was sophmoric in nature:  of course the Fed will print money, they will until the Fed is ended.

whereas the good doctor is taking the position that the FED can't print all the FRN's they want, but no one has to accept them, IF THEY CHOOSE NOT TO.

Lennon,

I agree, but that's not what he said.

IN the situation we are in now as a nation the  Bernak should not print ANY more at this time............ he was simply making a point, with an exclamation point.(his opinion)

How any things have we seen this admin do things WE would consider treasonous,or at the least extremly detrimental, and Unconstitutional?.

A less inflamatory way to have made his point would have been to say, would be to do so would be fiscal insanity.

Political grandstanding, they ALL do it.

He would not be my first choice, but almost anyone would be better than what we have now.

Fortunately no one is pointing a gun at my head, and forcing me to watch 16 months of this whack job stuff. Otherwise, I'd probably tell them to go ahead and shoot.

Perry doesn't stand a snowballs chance in Hades of becoming president. And every time he opens his mouth, he demonstrates to us all just why that is.

This your first contributor post Lizzy? I do not recall ever seeing a topic with your name at the head. If so congrats. I've been here just over 2 years, and always enjoy your witty comments.

You are completely delusional.  Perry will dispatch Mitt Romney once the primary season begins in the South.  Perry is the most likely GOP candidate to defeat Obama in 2012.

Perry could NEVER win the disenchanted Obots, the youth, or the independents...

Only ONE person can do that:  RON PAUL!

Nobody is in the same galaxy with RP. The other candidates don't even have brains. That said, I do have misgivings about RP, simply because he does not seem to have any sharp confrontational skills. He is like a bulldog with dull teeth, and he tends to whine a little when making otherwise excellent points.

RP could use some PR (heh).  My problem is he does not go for the jugular; he plays with his prey (not my style), but maybe he is wiser than me (he probably is) and he is patiently waiting to pounce (I hope so).  He also should smile more at the camera.  Just sayin'.

Ron Paul is the last of the classic Statesmen. he is firm but polite and holds to an ideology that embraces the concepts of courtesy and consideration. Push him far enough and he will cut your nuts off.

We should all focus on the fact that the corporatocracy controlled mainstream media is attempting to minimalize Mr. Paul by not just limiting but outright restricting his exposure via manipulation of what we used to call the "free press". This is David Rockefeller at work here gentlemen. Remember the last individual who attempted to abolish the federal reserve banking system and what happened to him. You need to watch "The Men Who Killed Kennedy".

akak's picture

Sorry, but that is pure bullshit about Kennedy --- he in NO way whatsoever tried to "take on the Fed", much less abolish it.  I am astounded by the profound ignorance and ongoing misinformation surrounding Kennedy, silver certificates and United States Notes, and this bizarre latter-day theory that he somehow tried to issue non-Federal Reserve currency in some scheme to undermine or circumvent the Fed.

The simple fact is that both silver certificates and United States notes had already been issued, and were being issued, for almost a century before Kennedy, and his executive order regarding printing them was nothing but a rote formality demanded by the laws of the time to replace such notes withdrawn from circulation due to wear in order to maintain a roughly constant supply of them.  This was well-known and utterly uncontroversial among financial and monetary analysts, and in the numismatic and paper note-collecting communities for many years, so I watched with amusement and dismay as the retarded theory started growing 10 or 20 years ago that Kennedy was some sort of stealth monetary reformer in Keynesian drag.

The truth is, Kennedy was no Ron Paul, nor even remotely close to any kind of monetary revolutionary, so please, for the love of god, stop perpetuating the ridiculous and ignorant theory to that effect.

Your perceptions have been conditioned by the media which only covers politics from the horse race point of view. Policy is almost never mentioned in these stories about who is top tier and who is or is not electable. Ron Paul doesn't try to kiss anyone's ass. He's all about the policies. That's why we love him.

I've not paid much attention to Paul the last few times he ran, and unfortunately, he may just be getting too old for most people to even consider him.

Guess we'll just see, won't we?
