Wall Street Protest Starting to Look Like Egypt

George Washington's picture

Wall Street Protest Starting to Look Like Tahrir Square, Egypt

Alexander Higgins reports:

NYPD police scanners are estimating a crowd up to 5,000
are occupying liberty square in a scene that is now starting to look
more like Egypt’s Tahrir square.

The protests have become so large that Fox News has set up a live stream covering the protests. Here are some screen shots from their camera.

Here are some additional photographs from a helicopter.

Who Are the Protesters?

Wall Street is trying to write all of these people off as being
“hippies” who “need to get a job” (to which the protesters would
respond: That’s the point – There are no jobs, because Wall Street has destroyed the economy.)

Wall Street Protest Starting to Look Like Egypt.

The poor and the desperate, formerly-middle class people participating in the protests are not taking well to Wall Street’s “Let them eat cake” response.

But all types are marching, including grannies and pilots:

610x Wall Street Protest Starting to Look Like Egypt

Marines and other military men and women.

Wealthy folks such as Russel Simmons and Alec Baldwin.

Liberals and conservatives.

On the other side of the protest line, Mayor Bloomberg is whining that the protesters are targeting bankers who “are struggling to make ends meet”.
He has a point: if Wall Street is reined in so that the rest of the
country has a chance, the bankers might have to cut back on their mistresses, prostitutes and solid gold toilets.

Class Warfare?

Yes, this is class warfare. But it is class warfare by the 1% against the other 99% (and see this). Specifically, it is the looting of the country by the top .1% through fraud.

As Warren Buffet – one of America’s most successful capitalists and defenders of capitalism – points out:

There’s class warfare, all right, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war ….

Leading economists note that rampant inequality was one of the main causes of the Great Depression and of the current economic crisis.

Indeed, given that inequality in America is worse than Egypt (or Tunisia, or Yemen or most Latin American banana republics), and that social mobility is lower in America than in most European countries (and see this), we have been predicting these types of protests for years.

If Wall Street is starting to look like Tahir Square, it is because
America is starting to look more and more like Egypt – with a handful of
super-rich, and crumbs for everyone else.

Occupy Washington October 6 @ freedom plaza. I will be there. At first I was doubtful that the movement would have any legs but the tenacity and spirit of the protesters have won me over.

The protests are an important symbol but in the end wont be enough to force change. The root of the problem is our lack of control of the money supply and the fractional reserve banking system ran through the fed. I say take your money out of the system. The only thing that will ultimately force the elite to listen is a mass default on debt by the people.

If you have your money deposited in a major financial institution...withdraw your funds and put it in a credit union or buy physical gold and silver.

If you have student loan debt...dont pay

If you have credit card debt...refuse to pay

If you have a mortgage thats underwater...default on you home. (But keep saving your payments. With all of the logjam in the system it takes an average of one year for your home to be foreclosed on. If you save what you normally would pay you can delay the banks for longer than you would think.)

Some would say it irresponsible. But I feel its more irresponsible to continue financing the current system. Whats more important your credit or your childrens future? This is the only way for the people to take back the power.

Don't vote for Democrats or Republicans. VOTE NO CONFIDENCE!

"Wall St. Ruined the Economy"?

Wow!  Gotta love the way the uber left points the finger at one group alone, taking any individual responsibility out of the equation.  Let's remember that no one put a gun to your heads when you bought your home.  If you were too stupid to lever up, you should be getting fucked right now...How about Congress, Barney Franks gargling some dude's balls at Freddie Mac, hence greater "pressure" to issue more loans at with lose to no regs.  This thing is so F'n far beyond Wall St. that you're a fuckin' idiot of you side with the pot smoking, no tax paying hippie kids on 3 day benders polluting the streets of NY.

I think the nut jobs and freaks should occupy Hollywood, it would be about equally idiotic and irrevelant.  As for Egypt, great outcome right???, Muslim brotherhood taking over...the fools that threw Mubarick out wish they had him back.  Now EVERYONE is fearful for thir lives and future.

I'm a construction worker by trade. My job is to build homes to code so that the house doesn't fall down and kill whoever is living in it. If the house falls down it would be because I was shirking my responsibilty. Bankers also have codes (laws) that they chose not to follow. They committed fraud and theft on a massive scale. A bankers job is to ASSESS RISK. I can ask you for a million dollars all I want but you aren't forced to give it to me. When the bankers shirked their responsibility and the house burned down they got the people to bail them out instead of living with the consequences. We gave them trillions of dollars and the system is no more secure now than it was then.

And for those of you who say that Washington is the problem I do agree, but let me ask you a question. In reality does Washington control Wall St. or does Wall St control Washington. The financial elite in wall st. and the federal reserve are the SOURCE of the problem. Its time to take them down. The consequences will be severe but no worse than whats gonna happen within two years anyway if we do nothing.

As of now, I am assuming this impotent nonsense to be state sponsored unrest.

If proven correct, hold onto your hats.  We are about to go yugoslavia especially when the military and police fracture along racial lines.

I think that loose caboose and several of you here have it correct, it may be time to stop typing, talking, and telegraphing your intentions and just start acting.  Whether it be in person (protests) or electronic etc.  The more you talk about it the easier it is to defend against it.  Many necessary cleansings began as grassroots efforts, think religions, they all started as small sects.  If you hit the right nerve at the right time then your power will grow.

If you think that the Google's, Apple's and Yahoo's etc. etc. have not been listening and relaying info to the current gov't powers whether domestic or foreign, then you are naive.

Speaking of religions, has anyone really tried to tax these institutions?  think windfall tax revenues!

These protesters are absolutely clueless.  Keep protesting the people who received stolen property instead of those who committed armed robbery (the government).  I hate to tell these folks but the reason the country is in such bad shape isn't because of Goldman Sachs, it's because of the US government.  They should be a few blocks down from the stock exchange and go to the NY Fed; go protest the real cause of our problems.  What a disgrace.  Egypt? I hate to tell you, but you are fooling yourself if you think this protest is just about the corruption on wall street.  You see, they know this is the hand that feeds the government and directs the government.  They are striking the root of the problem, which is where the money comes from (ehh... federal reserve is a private bank, just incase you were wondering...).  If money is the root of the evil, the protestors are marching against who is supplying the money to the government to allow the government to behave without taking it's constituents into consideration.  Once the free money flow stops, corrupt politicians will find their aliances broken or needing to change to maintain their self interests.  There will also be massive back stabbing and turncoating resulting in more and more corruption comming to light and eventually allowing the sedintary lifetime politicians to get replaced with people that are interested in working for the benefit of the long term survival of this country.  This will also reinvigorate americans the country over to take heart that not all is lost, and that not all of their fellow americans are cowards, and that they don't have to do everything themselves.  This will bring real change... especially if we see the government turn ugly to protect its master.

Look, all the money in the world wouldn't have any power whatsoever if the fucking corrupt sociopathic morons in our govenrment gave a damn about the people instead of only themselves.   The banks bribe the government because it works, because our Congress and bureaucrats are for sale to the highest bidder, and that is never going to be Joe Q Public.   Yes, by all means, protest the banks, I'm all for it, and I wholeheartedly support what's going on in NYC.    But ultimately, the finance industry did not take an oath to uphold the constitution and represent the people -- that's the job of our elected officials, and they have failed miserably and should be held to account.  They are ultimately to blame.
