A day to ponder how an industry can drive so many of it's brightest lights to personal self destruction. An industry struggling with an obsolete business model that extracts obscene sums from the masses, creates obscene personal wealth and inflicts obscene personal suffering on a few chosen idols.
How many music industry executives and shareholders have suffered a fate similar to the honor roll of artists who have struggled and then paid the ultimate price of premature death?
That is the question that should be asked on a sad occasion such as today.

The media is THE BIGGEST problem. People think that if they didn't read or hear about it in one of the properties of the mainstream media conglomerates, it didn't happen. People still think that the controlled and often manipulated coverage that they read is news.
Yet when in 2009, during the height of the avian fly scare, when a pharmaceutical company like Baxter, a DOD government contractor, 'accidentally' sends 73 kilos of live avian flu virus mixed in with human flu vaccine to 18 different distributors all over the world, including the USA and a pandemic doesn't start, only, because a Czech researcher caught the killer flu 'vaccine' after injecting ferrets that dropped dead, the American people hear NOTHING.
The Toronto Sun, Natural News, and other independent European papers wrote about this, but the mainstream press, like the New York Times, not a word. Instead, the entire months of February- March 2009, the NYT only reported on the dangers of vitamin E, or the inconclusive benefits of Vitamin D.
Millions of people could have died from a flu strain that has a 60% fatality rate, yet nothing happened to Baxter, the FDA did nothing to revoke, or even investigate their laboratory's FDA clearance.
After a huge story like this is ignored by almost every news outlet in the United States, how can anyone trust the mainstream press to inform us of anything important?
I saw a small mention of that in ProMed (the online digest for http://www.isid.org the International Association of Infectious Diseases for humans, animals and plants worldwide) and was dumbfounded that there was no coverage of it anywhere in the mainstream press.
The answer is that no one can trust the mainstream press to inform us of anything important if TPTB don't want the general populace to know about it. Having alternate sources of information and also ways to share it are crucial for our peace of mind (and perhaps our survival).
But also consider: I think the majority of the people around us believe that government will always do what is best for them and society at large. And then there are the rest of us who find our way to ZH.

The Post-WWII Era has been the Era of Leisure and so many simply do not know how to use leisure time. They waste it, abuse it, and feel real pain if left on their own seeking diversions and distractions because they simply cannot abide their own company. So many people are shallow, empty, devoid of intellect and simply prone to inertia unless prodded, kicked, bribed or cajoled into action. The passivity is there before the Television and the prostration before authority is widespread through fear of exposure of inadequacy, easier to submerge in the crowd than expose the fragile and ill-formed personality to responsibility or accountability. Escapism.

Re. concrete example really hits it on the head Agreed. Actually, it took me a second look to notice you were exposing Time's duplicity. CNN does that too. The CNN outside the Homeland is mild and reasonable compared to the jingoistic rah, rah, on CNN inside.
Basicly William, I'm talking about the lies and the Kool-aide that have dazzled soooo many who can't see they're walking the plank. I wonder, if when it's all over they'll go thru recovery, like escapees from some violent cargo-cult.

Reagon had his "Just say no to drugs" bullshit while he was funding CIA-backed Nicaraguan Contras by allowing them to sell cocaine in Los Angeles and shielding inner-city drug dealers from prosecution. This was to get around the law prohibiting direct funding for contras.
Gary Webb's reported on this and the San Jose Mercury News backed away from the story, effectively ending Webb's career as a mainstream media journalist. He was criticized and outcast from the mainstream journalism community. In 2004, Webb was found dead from two gunshot wounds to the head.
Eventually he was vindicated as many of his findings have since been validated and "the government eventually admitted to more than Gary had initially reported" over the years.
Webb alleged that the 1997 backlash was a form of media manipulation. "The government side of the story is coming through the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the Washington Post," Webb stated. "They use the giant corporate press rather than saying anything directly. What does this mean? That the Greek society should operate for free as far as “breathing” is concerned. “Breath” is the purchase of a house. Why is that? Because every day people are born and dying. Every day people get married, create families and give birth to children. That is that houses change hands on an everyday basis just because society lives and “breaths”. It is not possible to make this constant internal activity a debt producing factor. So, it is not possible to use foreign capitals to fund this activity.
If Greek society was a poor economy of poor workers, it should also have low price houses. Workers should buy them with what they had in their pockets, either a lot or just a few. If poor Greeks had only beans at their hands, their houses should have been calculated in beans and not in Euro ...in best case, buyers should be supported by their insurance funds with real money coming from their real levies. They should not have taken funds from external agents. They should not have to borrow Euro from the loan-shark banks and create external debts. When salaries are at 600 euro per month, houses cannot cost 300,000 euro ...things are simple. It is just a matter of proportions and the proportions are created by the economy dynamics and therefore the “breath" of the people.
When we used drachmas, salaries were at 200,000 (approx. 590 Euro) drachmas per month but houses cost 20,000,000 drachmas (approx. 59,000 Euro). The ratio of the average salary to the value of a decent house was 1/100. When we entered the Euro zone, salaries remained the same but house prices became five times higher. The ratio of the average salary to the value of the same house became 1/500. This means that suddenly in Greece with the poor people it became natural to talk about houses costing tens of millions. Why is that? Because Greece lay on the “bed” of the European “ICU” and was “put on a respirator”.
Criminal bankers stuck a “tube” in the Greek economy ...a “tube” connecting Greece to the international circuit of loan sharks in an uncontrolled way. This was tragic. Why is that? Because criminals interfered with its “breathing” in a criminal way by not financing the development of the Greek economy. They turned its “breath” into a financially profitable activity. They funded the “bubble” of real-estates by giving housing loans. It is a political crime that the world has never seen before, that is the private banks were allowed to borrow money from foreign loan-sharks to fund the internal housing market.
This had a tragic outcome. The same house that when drachmas were used cost about 20,000,000 drachmas came to cost about 100,000,000 drachmas but this time it was funded by banks. " ...

not too long ago the president of Coca Cola said, that someday he thought there would be "a Coke for everybody.." this is the same product which was universally sold and distributed for several decades. McDonalds profiels their customers in all the various foreign countries, but how can they maintain their margins? I think the guy is right, but how does the corporate model hold up when there are no more mass producted products? But then I wonder about an Ipod with a million Apps? An App for everybody? Maybe they will plant the Ipod in our brain, with driving GPS, blood sugar monitor, and endless elevator music which goes right to the brain without bothering to go through the ears? What about commodities, why bother with gold, why bother with anything when everyone has it? In the future eveyone will have their own bond, like some rock stars, which pay interest based on your earnings. Your born somebody gives you this bond, and the value of the bond varies according to how well you are doing, and how much interest you are paying. Sounds sorta like indentured servitude though, but isn't that what money is all about?
