(Who Killed Davey Moore, Bob Dylan)
WilliamBanzai7 Blog

Who killed the Economy,
Why an' what's the reason for?

"Not I," says Greenspan and Bernanke,
"Don't point your finger at me.
We could've stopped it before it was too late
An' maybe kept the markets from this fate,
But the crowd would've booed, I'm sure,
At not gettin' their bubble's worth.
It's too bad it had to pop,
But there was a pressure on we two, you know.
It wasn't we that made the economy fall.
No, you can't blame we at all."

Who killed the Economy,
Why an' what's the reason for?

"Not us," says the short selling bear market crowd,
Whose screams deflated the subprime cloud.
"It's too bad the economy tanked that September night
That Lehman was left to its sorry plight.
We didn't mean for Fuld's bank to meet its death,
We just meant to see some sweat,
There ain't nothing wrong in that.
It wasn't us that made Lehman fall.
No, you can't blame us at all."

Who killed the Economy,
Why an' what's the reason for?

"Not me," says the Politician,
Puffing on a big cigar.
"It's hard to say, it's hard to tell,
I always thought Wall Street was a bottomless well.
It's too bad for our wives an' kids the Bull is dead,
But if he was sick, someone else should have said.
It wasn't we that made him fall.
No, you can't blame me at all."

Who killed the Economy,
Why an' what's the reason for?

"Not me," says the gambling man,
With his 401k Statement still in his hand.
"It wasn't me that knocked the Bull market down,
My hands never touched it none.
I didn't commit no ugly sin,
Anyway, I put all my money on it to win win win.
It wasn't me that made it fall.
No, you can't blame me at all."

Who killed the Economy,
Why an' what's the reason for?

Not us said the clowns over at AIG
We sell insurance to those in need
Our risk models run infallibly
It was a financial tsunami worse than any natural calamity
How big is our hole we just can't see
We're too big to fail
So bail us out Uncle Sam if you please]

Who killed the Economy,
Why an' what's the reason for?

"Not me," says the feckless financial news writer,
Pounding print on his digital typewriter,
Sayin', "CNBC ain't to blame,
There's just as much danger in the finance game."
Sayin', "Wall Street greed is here to stay,
It's just the old American way.
It wasn't me that made it fall.
No, you can't blame me at all."

Who killed the Economy,
Why an' what's the reason for?

"Not me," said the Wall Street conman whose securitized risks
Laid the markets low in an opaque cloud of toxic mist,
Who came here from some Ivy League door
Even though Ponzi scheming ain't allowed no more.
"We scammed and we scammed them, yes, it's true,
But that's what we are paid the big bucks to do.
Don't say 'fraud,' don't say 'steal.'
It was destiny, it was God's will."

Who killed the Economy,
Why an' what's the reason for?

on a side note i thought it's funny that the video being hosted on a chinese video site named youku. as if it's not obvious enough youku is a complete ripoff of youtube, youku watermarks their video collections to keep other chinese companies from ripping off their vids haha.

williambanzai7's picture

Whoever polices Dylans songs has done a good job of wiping this one off of YouTube. Which is an irony in itself.

Cynical Sidney's picture

enforcement of intellectual property rights propels the chinese to infringe on our IP rights, irony indeed. we need patent reform now ;/

Outstanding post.

Was this by any chance funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for the spread of Monsanto GMOs (of which they're heavily invested in), and for the total privatization of education (of which they're heavily invested in), and for ever more global vaccines (of which they're heavily invested in) and for more mercenary armies in Africa?

Didn't think so......

Buckaroo to the Ramparts!

Far Freakin' Out! - I'm trippin' back to '68-'72, the last time I was excited and had hope for the U.S. of A.  This is way more exciting because the OWSers are targeting the banksters and their mendacious servants, the politicians.  Nice to know the 99% has gotten smarter after 30 more years of corruption.

This time we clean house top to bottom.  Let the Second American Revolution Roll.

Thanks for the hit of Photoshop Sunshine WB7!  Love the Mr. Rogers/V mashup.

Excellent,... soooo in a class by itself :-))

Thanks WB7, thats your best song parody yet, fits like a glove. There was a time decades ago when singers actually wrote their own songs and the songs actually had some intelligence and meaning in they lyrics. I wish someone along those lines and of the caliber of Dylan would come along again, protest songs should make a comeback, here we are two Vietnams later and instead of the Commies as a bogeyman, the banking cartel is the real threat.

williambanzai7's picture

I think there are people out there, but the music industry has no reason to
Consider them.

Fazzie's picture

They didnt like the hippies or rappers either until they figured out a way to market them.

williambanzai7's picture

Actually the rappers had to figure it out by themselves, then they followed.

I'm not sure if that's the best or worst visual combat ever.

Very cool my 99% brother.

Anyway for other news that matters

Obama Administration's War on Medical Marijuana Continues to Escalate

The last bank in Colorado to openly do business with the medical marijuana industry has announced that it will no longer do so. The banks have caved in to federal demands they do extra monitoring and reporting on their customers in the marijuana business, fearing the feds could have worse in mind for them than they've stated. Dispensaries throughout the state are preparing to go cash-only.

The IRS announced that medical marijuana dispensaries, which the federal government does not recognize as nonprofits even when their states do, cannot deduct the major costs of doing business on their tax returns -- rent, payroll, etc. -- a move that could make collective provision of marijuana to patients difficult to continue. Harborside Health Center in Oakland, a major and well-respected leader in the field (our Scott Morgan has dubbed Harborside "The Best Place in the World to Buy Marijuana"), paid millions in taxes but owes millions more. They say they'll have to stop operating if the appeals process fails to reverse the decision.

Tomorrow California US Attorneys say they'll announce a new "strategy," including forfeiture actions and maybe worse against property owners who rent buildings or land to medical marijuana businesses. It's not a completely new threat, but it is sounding like an enlarged one.

Have a license for medical pot? You can't have a gun, U.S. says

Michigan's medical-marijuana users can't catch a break.

Three major state appeals court decisions have gone against them in the last month. Now, federal authorities have issued an order that licensed medical-marijuana users nationwide can't possess a gun.

That means no hunting, no target shooting, no gun collecting and no guns for personal protection -- even by patients who legally cultivate marijuana crops -- according to a Sept. 21 directive to prosecutors nationwide from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

( These are designed to lay the foundation for future actions against citizens. There is also a bill recently put forth making it illegal for US citizens to use drugs even though they are legal in the nation the US citizen is in.

One potential scenario would be a US citizen who is a spokesperson for some protest group smokes pot in Portugal. He is targetted and arrested by say the FBI when he returns to the US or a friendly country. Convicted and placed in prison out of the limelight. Or maybe moved to the oft mentioned FEMA camps.

Either way these seemingly small actions have much larger potential consequences. Just like the new ability to Kill us citizens without a trial.

Be afraid, be very afraid.)

Is Joe Cassano in there?  Gery Gensler?  Lew Ranieri?  Angelo?

Senator Rand Paul made an effective case for corporations and free market capitalism on Fox Financial News.

Free markets capitalism is still the best path to Prosperity

williambanzai7's picture

I don't disparage the idea of markets and capitalism.

I disparage the fallacy that markets are able to self police fraud.

We have seen how that works.

It is a simple lesson we perpetually seem learn and unlearn in parallel with Kondratieff waves and Mandelbrot sets.

I'm going back to New York City, I do believe I've had enough.

I have to say, I always loved that album. It and Abbey Road were true master pieces.

I spent many hours listening to that music and studying that cover...in between...

I forgot to mention, today is John Lennon's 71st Birthday.

I'm sure he would have approved.

These appear to be actual photos from OWS!

I love this video from Occupy Atlanta - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QZlp3eGMNI

This sums up the sheeple mentality of the OWS crowd - Banzai, you have more class than these freaks (I think)

That is human nature,

My time, at one time was spent working in my darkroom, or working, pounding nails, building stuff, creating stuff, now it seems my time is mostly spent on ZH learning stuff, this learning curve is steep! I love your work WB7

williambanzai7's picture

I had a proper dark room. I used to love watching the images emerge in the developer. I can still smell the chemicals and hear the rinse running.

Ansel Adams was right about photography, half of the game is in the dark room. Now it is photoshop.

alchemystic's picture

If you have any intrest in checking out some of my photographs this should get you there a little more easy(I think)! http://membrane.com/alchemystic/

williambanzai7's picture

I just looked at your work. You are clearly a serious photographer so I want to ask you a serious question.

Do you have a digital camera?

I'm here in HK. But if I were there, there are all kinds of things relating to what is happening that I would want to go capture. The erosion of The American dream.

I have yet to see the Walker Evans or Dorthea Lange of our time emerge.

I am waiting patiently.
