Why Are We Fighting On the Same Side with Al Qaeda?

George Washington's picture

Reuters notes that the leader of Al Qaeda - Ayman al-Zawahri - is backing the Syrian rebels, and asking his followers to fight the Syrian government.

Some of the main Al Qaeda fighters who overthrew Gadaffi - and now appear to be in control of Libya - are already helping the Syrian rebels.

This is curious, given that the U.S. is considering military options for ousting the Syrian government, American allies Britain and Qatar allegedly already have foreign troops inside Syria, and the U.S. has been planning regime change in Syria for over 50 years.

Mainstream reports also state that the U.S. and its allies are backing Iranian terrorists.

I thought Al Qaeda was America's mortal enemy. Why are we backing terrorists?

Dictating venue it is in a book called Art of War, ever heard of it?

But point taken, if a guy is gassing a quarter million of his own people he doesn't need anyone else's help.

As far as Afghanistan, do you not know that the US and oil co's were trying to "do a deal" for a pipeline across Afhanistan right up until we invaded?  The Afghanis ended up not liking the deal and weren't bowing low enough to the banster-oil kingpins.

Of course, that is only one factor.  The goal for over 20 years is to pin down Iran.  They have accomplished that...now it is "all systems go"....

By the way....ZH'ers know from whence you come....it is so obvious.

Ton of Israel in Afghsnistan, tons of oil and Israel in Kosovo, Vietnam and Korea too.

At least that is what I heard on the internets.

The evil zionistas were behind the USS Kohl the embassy attack in Kenya, the little thing at the olympics, the little hostage thing in iran and another half dozen attacks via proxy against US interests the last 30yrs too-

I heard it on the internets.

OBL, in his 1996 Declaration of War (it's on the net) lists in plain English even someone brain dead like yourself might understand: Islam wants the USA out of ME holy land (I don't believe in any thing "Holy" in the physical world, but that's what they believe and most religions believe in holy things).

Just they way you'd want Mexico or some other foreign invader out of America if they were planted here.

As Michael Scheuer clearly explains, Islam does not hate the USA as proven by professional polls taken here.  Islam does not hate democracy and is pretty much in love with trading things (when it's not done by force).  They like capitalism pretty well overall.

Islam wants the USA to stop protecting the Al Saud family of Saudi Arabia, who own and run the most evil dictatorship (yes, it's not Camelot, sorry to burst your stupid bubble) on earth, where the Al Saud family flush solid gold toilets while the average Muslim eats dirt.

Islam wants the USA to stop protecting Israel, who has no "right to exist" (no such right exists anywhere).  Only two ME nations publicly agree with Israel's (phony) right to exist, and they do this only because we bribe them to, and Islam wants that to end too.

BTW, the Israel-firster schill on Fox News Fred Barnes told me on the phone, when I asked who gives Israel the right to exist...Fred laughed at me and said, "God".

No the U.S. foreign policy is the reason for those incidents (USS COLE, Kenya Embassy, Iran Hostage crisis).  USS COLE was a direct result of our interference in that region. Yemen officials didn't cooperate with the U.S. authorities and the FBI agents were regularly threatened. Their helicopter was targeted by a missile so its an obvious assumption that we weren't welcome in Yemen. Why would the military dock vessels in a known terrorist harbouring country that is hostile to the U.S..

Kenyan bombings - The bombings are widely believed to have been revenge for American involvement in the extradition, and alleged torture, of four members of Egyptian Islamic Jihad (EIJ) who had been arrested in Albania in the two months prior to the explosions.

Iranian hostage crisis - A direct result of decades of abuse by the U.S. backed Shah of Iran who replaced Mosaddeq. He nationalized the Iranian Oil companies which didn't set well with U.S. and Britian, so he was replaced in a U.S. backed coup.

There is a history behind each of the incidents you mention.  Look at the cause not the end result.

WE ARE AT WAR WITH OCEANIA

"Almost all of the information about the world beyond London is given to the reader through government or Party sources, which by the very premise of the novel are unreliable. Specifically, in one episode Julia brings up the idea that the war is fictional and that the rocket bombs falling from time to time on London are fired by the government of Oceania itself, in order to maintain the war atmosphere among the population (better known as a false flag operation). The protagonists have no means of proving or disproving this theory. However, during preparations for Hate Week, rocket bombs fell at an increasing rate, hitting places such as playgrounds and crowded theatres, causing mass casualties and increased hysteria and hatred for the party's enemies. War is also a convenient pretext for maintaining a huge military–industrial complex in which the state is committed to developing and acquiring large and expensive weapons systems which almost immediately become obsolete and require replacement."

The subjects must be entertained, distracted from the ills and disasters accompanying the new world conquest.

Seriously George, you wondered off base on this one. I'll tell you why you're on the same side.

Syria is using HEAVY ARMS on civilians, and they happen to be the right flavour of Islam for the Taliban to be interested.

And as we all KNOW, only the US, Israel, and sometime Russia are permited to use this equipment on civilians. For everyone else, it's a crime against humanity.

War by proxy is hardly new... what's your point?

Taliban are in Syria. They would have been flooding in over the border, especially now that their leader has made it an official front. The US and iraquis have probably been waving them on merrily, better there disrupting syria, then messing with plans for removing US troops.

Whats that? Awfully convenient timing... Syria becoming destabilised and drawing Taliban forces out of Iraq at a time when the US needs Iraq to at least look like it might be able to stand on it's own 2 legs.. coincidence I am sure.

The US is preaching, the taliban are preaching, and civilians are dying, while powerful people play powerful games. The same old story, and George wonders why they're on the same side.

pretty obvious from your post that you are lost in MSM lala land.  back to your original post, "syria" is not using heavy arms on civilians...  Syria is fighting a group of foreign backed (NATO/Israel) insurgents... these same insurgents are carrying out terrorist bombings to spread fear and chaos.  More outside intervention is the goal...  This is imoral, illegal and will lead to world war three...  the blood is on NATO/Isreal's hands.

btw, not sure what "news" source you read, but the "taliban" are in Afghanistan, not Iraq.   good grief.

I don't know where to begin with that level of ignorance. Wooo "secret squirrels" doin secret things.. that's believable is it?

Well... regardless of your stupidity, it is not OK to shell a suburb. It is NEVER OK to shell a suburb that has civilians living in it.

My slow learning american friends, the horror of this method of 'warfare' was outlawed 70 years ago for good reason.

You learned in Vietnam that shelling the populous is a bad idea, and you learned again in Iraq and Afganistan.. but you never really learned. Probably because the commanders of those forces will never be dragged up in front of the Hague, so it's all ok.

It's not OK. It doesn't matter who fires the shell. Its not ok.

By shelling the suburbs.

It's ok as long as it's not your suburbs...?

That makes it justifiable? If it was NY, and Obama just wanted to stop those pesky foreign religious extremists, who happened to be holed up in a major city, it would be ok to use artillery then?
