Will Tokyo Be Evacuated Due to Fukushima Radiation?
Tokyo Radiation Exceeds Chernobyl In Some Places … Japanese Government and Experts Discuss Evacuation
As I noted last month, radiation in some parts of Tokyo is higher than in the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
Yesterday, Al Jazeera pointed out:
Experts estimate the radiation leaked from Fukushima nuclear plant will exceed that of Chernobyl.

The need to evacuate parts of the sprawling capital of 35 million may have once seemed an incredible prospect but some experts say the possibility can no longer be ignored.
Indeed, as Japan Times reports today, the Japanese government started discussing the potential need to evacuate Japan soon after the quake hit:
In the days immediately after the crisis began at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, the government received a report saying 30 million residents in the Tokyo metropolitan area would have to be evacuated in a worst-case scenario, former Prime Minister Naoto Kan revealed in a recent interview.
***
“It was a crucial moment when I wasn’t sure whether Japan could continue to function as a state,” he said.
After the March 11 earthquake and tsunami crippled the plant, Kan instructed several entities to simulate a worst-case scenario. One of those assessments said everyone residing within 200 to 250 km of the plant — an zone that would encompass half to all of Tokyo and cut clear across Honshu to the Sea of Japan — would have to be evacuated.
Things Are Getting Worse – Not Better – In Japan
While this is a worst-case scenario, things are getting worse – rather than better – at Fukushima. See this, this, this and this.

Say George - did all your West Coast acolytes whom you encouraged to "invest" in iodine tablets make a killing? Or was all that "the US will be contaminated" fearmongering just the same old GW hoqwash? Don't you have some maps for us showing how it all "could" cross the Pacific in just a few more days?
Don't worry - at least you give the Lennon Hendrixes of the world a place to link back to their "madness"; this of course is absolutely appropriate to a GW post (most of which are just breathless innuendo seperating links back to his website (which if you bother to read are also devoid of any actual facts).
Tokyo will be evacuated in order to fill the empty void along the US Gulf Coast due to the toxic cloud of methane...................ooops sorry wrong thread.
amazing facts in that counterpoint. Mind your gas
Facts aren't allowed in GW commentary threads. It's been explained clearly to me that using facts and rational argument means you are in the pay of whatever bugaboo GW is currently flailing.
another counterpoint crammed full of data.
gasmiinder
Damn boy, you really aren't up on this shit are you?
Personally, I'm on the East coast and scared. Philly had some nasty stories regarding radiation readings and another about spikes in infant deaths.
May you should start paying attention.
Then again one less fool means more shit for me.
Never mind keep your head up your ass. I can wait for a long term benefit.
If you're on the East Coast and scared about this you have zero knowledge of the physics involved and, more importantly, zero capacity for judging risk. But that puts you right where you need to be with the GW herd. Clearly since "some nasty stories" are at the heart of everything GW does here (and then zip zilch nada when in fact none of those stories pan out) you should be right at home.
Several months after we dropped the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the US really had no idea what all the effects were. Accusations were made by the Japanese that we had somehow dropped "A poison bomb" onto Japan.
This was dismissed as hogwash at the highest levels. Eventually, we did send a team of scientists to study the effects of the two atomic bombs on the landscape and populace.
At a certain point we realized that the Japanese were not lying. We had dropped "poison bombs" on them, the poison being the effects of radioactivity, which we didn't fully understand at the time.
We are still ignorant about most of the effects of radioactivity because there is absolutely no longer any profit in understanding this. This is why we still have the completely idiotic belief that only a handful of people died from Chernobyl. If radioactivity is dangerous, then nuclear energy isn't as cheap as we thought, and our long term plan is bunk.
The problem is, as a species, we've become dull. Bored with existence. And we lack the capacity to really grasp what is going on in Japan. It's unprecedented, and there aren't really words for it.
Well we may be bored now. But looking round for rodents to eat and defending ourselves from the raping gangs should spice life up again. These things go in cycles.
Eloquently put.
Blame idiot sheep who watch TV. The elites control is all and all the networks are the same. If you watch TV or hollywood's shit you enable and empower them.
TV is for stupid people; look who voted for Obama.
No one should be taking iodine pills. Just drink green tea/mate/ and eat kelp and you will stave off most of the radiation.
Are you assuming no radiation is in the air? It has filled the whole Northern Hemishpere.
I've read it three times now and it still says, "stave off most of the radiation." Still can't believe it.
You will not get rid of all the nuclear radiation that enters your body, but you can block most of it, and you can flush a lot of it out.
The goal is not to stay nuclear free, it is to keep your body working and to continually clean it.
Sarcasm. Both Green Tea and Kelp have been tested to be radioactive themselves because of the high levels of atmospheric radiation.
Atmosheric radiation is beneficial. The problem now with tea and whatnot is that nuclear fallout can be absorbed by it. Win some you lose some.
You don't know what you're fucking talking about. Stay ignorant mate, you've got good company.
You got me ... oh, wait ...
No shit. This has been on the blogs for months, but for some reason not in mainstream media anymore. I figured it must be pretty bad then. Looks like it is. Kinda like the BP spill. Outta sight...outta mind.
I hear China has some empty cities just laying around waiting for an entire nation of displaced, hightly trained workers to fill them up.
There is no hate deeper than the Chinese for the Japanese. Those cities shall remain soulless.
China could sell those empty buildings to Japanese refugees, solve their own real-estate overhang, plus get their revenge in one go (considering the likely construction quality of the ghost cities.
Nanking is not forgotten by China!
Great book, "Unbroken", should anyone think we should never have dropped the bombs on Japan.
We'll soon be bitching about the massive invasion of undocumented Japanese.
Most of us will be somewhat sympathetic initially, but they'll eventually be 'saltbacks' or 'japs' once more.
Does anyone doubt that our government would not open our borders for humanitarian reasons?
In a few short weeks the world will visually find out what happens when a nuclear plant explodes and no precaution is taken. Mothers in their first trimester when Fukashima blew are about to give birth to babies exposed to massive amounts of radiation. The visual of broken DNA sequences will tip the world on the reality that it faces concerning what will be the greatest man made disaster in the history of this planet.
From the above blog....
You've already seen the horrendous effects of depleted uranium rounds being used in Iraq. Another story that has gotten no coverage in the MSM.

DU munitions are a war crime. Despicable.
God help them. Very sad.
Silver Short Sword Seppuku! Hai!
(Krugman re-birth ritual)
Krugman doesn't have the marbles to admit his fate.
The Whiteness descended onto Japan in true Black Swan fashion. Only nature knew what lay in waiting for the poor island of Nippon. An island steeped in ritual and history, it was to be utterly destroyed in a few blinks of an eye. Now, it lays in ruins.

Madness has crept upon the sleeping and turned the tables severely. We are all mad, shown creatively or not. People have shunned this. Now they will learn how to accept it.
Japan will soon be deserted. One of the world's busiest and most important hubs is only just downwind from one of the worst nuclear disasters ever. It will be a ghost town. Massive deflation will hit the Japanese industry. The trickle of people moving now will turn into a rush of tens of millions. Many will never visit their homeland of Japan again.

Krugman Keynesian WIN: relocating Tokyo!
Krugman, I am certain is developing a mental illness.
As for Japan, they're again simply trying to bury the problem. Like it or not, the contents of the core of the reactor need to be removed. The best method for doing this is in-situ leeching. It's used by miners to get the uranium out of the ground in the first place.
Basically, you drill a hole into the ground, fill it with acid or alkaline, dissolve the uranium, pump it out, and then process it. Once enough is removed, the reaction will stop entirely, making the rest of the process much safer. Yes, it will take a while. Yes it will be dangerous in many ways, and yes it will ruin the containment vessel in time. But it must be done. The core must be separated and reprocessed. For this, we need the big miners. Massive diggers to lay a form of catchment underneath, their techniques to remove the core. Sending robots in to pick up large chunks of it simply is not going to work. It needs to be liquid. It needs to be processed as close to site as possible and chemically separated into dangerous isotopes and boring old hold in your hands yellowcake.
Until this is done, the radiation problems cannot get better. Entombing it will not work any better than Chernobyl. The problem must be removed, the reaction stopped and only THEN can anyone hope to work on methods for cleaning the ground around it. It can be done though. But it will be done by miners who are used to pouring millions of tonnes of dirt into a machine to extract a few precious grams of resource.
This is not a waste issue. It's a resource issue. We need the resource people to extract it.
mmm, much hope youve given me you have
The situation is bad, real bad. But not as bad as GW paints it. I think myne gets it. Unless some kind of new explosion occurs or a spent fuel pool collapses, Tokyo will stay put.
Oh yes, think of all the jobs that will be created rebuilding the entire city - score!
Fuck that, build a whole new island!
Horrible
Japan should really take the opportunity to build a floating Island of Neo-Japan.
I feel like the project for a 2nd Tokyo is around the corner. And by 2015, Dai 3 Shin Toukyou Shi!!! And 2016, the apocallypse...
