Kurt Haskell, a Michigan lawyer, said his life also has changed, but said he still believes a federal agent gave Abdulmutallab a defective bomb to carry onto the plane to create an incident that would cause the government to install full body scanners at airports nationwide.

"Regardless of how media and government try to shape this case, I am convinced that Umar was given an intentionally defective bomb by a U.S. agent," Haskell told Edmunds. "It really saddens me that the government won't admit its role in the event. Because of this case, I will never trust anything the government says, ever."

Haskell then turned to Abdulmutallab and said: "Umar, you are not a Muslim martyr. You are merely a government patsy."

He and his wife, Lori, who also spoke, urged Edmunds to impose the maximum sentence.

The defendant laid into the U.S. government for oppressing Muslims worldwide and for federal prosecutors in Detroit for misquoting and misrepresenting the facts of the case "to achieve their evil goals."

Then, responding to Haskell, Abdulmutallab said: "I am not a government paddy."

This is off topic, but I asked a question on another thread, without a reply, what does "priced into the equities market" mean in laymans terms? Forgive me, but I am just a carpenter and I am trying to learn what this means. Can anyone explain this to me? Please

Hope you're still around to catch this reply.

Saying something is "priced in" is just a way for talking heads to say they think that the price of a stock (or group of stocks, commodities, treasuries, etc -- any "asset") reflects a good valuation if something were to occur.

So, one talking head could say: "I think the market has a Greek defualt priced in." meaning they don't think that a Greek default will cause a huge sell of in stocks resulting in a large price depreciation. In other words, this person thinks that the market has taken a possible Greek default into consideration is setting the price.

On the other side, I could say: "I don't think the markets have a Greek default priced in" meaning when it happens, stocks will sell off resulting in large losses.

As for me personally, I think there is no more "market" pricing in anything since the Fed, the banks, and the government have interfered to the point where no price of anything is a good reflection of its real value. That and the fact that in this debt based paper system, everyone's "asset" is someone elses liability.

On another note: There's no such thing as "just a carpenter." There are only people who search for the truth, and people who don't.

And yes, I take a little offense to "just a carpenter." I come from a long line of carpenters myself.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question, LarryDarrell, I am actually very proud of the skill level I attained over a productive and personally satisfying 35 year career in high end suburban residential and gold coast chicago condominium construction. My employers clients were among the wealthiest residents of the city of chicago and the northern suburbs(evil banksters, hedge fund owners(citadel), the little prick who bought the chicago tribune, the rotten prick who inherited his father's chewing gum company, two dysfunctional brothers who once owned the most successful video rental chain in the U.S., a snooty bastard who owned a food company that bought sara lee( what a rotten prick), a very nice and generous couple who started the pampered chef business, and many other strange, dysfunctional, paranoid, uber wealthy inbreds, and one stupid wife who had to come to the job to tell us she was flying to New York that morning to purchase some fucking bath towels with her gay designer, whoopee!). Some of our customers were very generous and thoughtful, but they were few and far between. Whew! glad I finally got that off my chest

I always take this to mean that the market already anticipated the event in question so it does not react as one might expect because the event was already "priced in." So imagine there have been hints in the media that the Fed is going to raise interest rates and as the rumors get stronger the market begins to react to the rumors. Then when the Fed finally announces a rate hike and DOW hardly moves at all in reaction, the pundits on CNBC will attribute the lack of movement to the fact that the rate hike was already priced into the market.
