You Know That Your City Has Become A Hellhole When….

All across America there are cities and towns that were once prosperous and beautiful that are being transformed into absolute hellholes. The scars left by the long-term economic decline of the United States are getting deeper and more gruesome. The tax base in many areas of the nation has been absolutely devastated as millions of jobs have left this country. Hundreds of cities are drowning in debt and are desperately trying to survive.
Last year, city government revenues in the United States fell by another 2.3 percent. That was the fifth year in a row that we have seen a decline. Meanwhile, costs associated with health care, pensions and virtually everything else continue to explode. So what are cities doing to make ends meet? Well, one big trend that we are now witnessing is that many U.S. cities have been getting rid of huge numbers of employees. If you can believe it, 72 percent of all U.S. cities are laying workers off this year. Social services and essential infrastructure programs are also being savagely cut back in many areas of the country. The cold, hard truth is that most of our cities are flat broke and things are going to get even worse in the years ahead.
So how do you know if your own city has become a hellhole?
Well, a few potential "red flags" are posted below....
You know that your city has become a hellhole when most of the street lights get repossessed because of unpaid electric bills.
You know that your city has become a hellhole when it announces that it will no longer prosecute domestic violence cases in order to save money.
You know that your city has become a hellhole when it simply stops sending out pension checks to retired workers.
You know that your city has become a hellhole when it rips up asphalt roads and replaces them with gravel because gravel is cheaper to maintain.
You know that your city has become a hellhole when nearly half of all the people living there can't read.
You know that your city has become a hellhole when one out of every ten homes sells for under $10,000.
You know that your city has become a hellhole when you can literally buy a house for one dollar.
You know that your city has become a hellhole when you have hundreds of people living in the tunnels underneath your streets.
You know that your city has become a hellhole when three of your past five mayors have been sent to prison for corruption.
You know that your city has become a hellhole when nearly half of the public schools in the city get shut down because of a lack of money.
You know that your city has become a hellhole when you have dozens of young people rampaging in the streets that are thirsty for revenge and that are armed with bats, pipes and guns.
You know that your city has become a hellhole when it is considered to be one of the 10 most dangerous cities in the world. [Note: Capetown came in first, Detroit came in third, and New Orleans came in ninth. - ed.]
You know that your city has become a hellhole when thieves defecate in the back seat after they have broken into your car and taken your things.
You know that your city has become a hellhole when prostitution and drug dealing are two of the only viable businesses that remain in the city.
You know that your city has become a hellhole when the police chief announces that the police department will no longer respond to calls about burglary and identity theft due to very deep budget cuts.
Many of the examples above may seem humorous at first glance, but the truth is that they reveal just how deeply tragic our economic decline really is.
This is one of the reasons why I write about our trade deficit over and over and over. Every single month, tens of billions of dollars more wealth goes out of the United States than enters it. Every single month, we are getting poorer as a nation. Every single month, we lose more jobs and businesses.
Any politician that tells you that he or she can solve our economic problems without fundamentally addressing our horrific trade imbalance is lying to you. That means that there are a whole lot of liars in both political parties.
If the number of good jobs continues to decline, the plight of the average American family is going to continue to get worse. Home sales will continue to hover around record lows. The American people will continue to become increasingly frustrated with the economy.
The signs of decline are all around us.
Quit listening to the politicians and just open up your eyes and look.

The tough reality for extorters of the weak and farmers of the poor is that they grow dependent on the weak and the poor.
Meaning they can not eliminate neither the weak nor the poor.
Life as an extorter and a farmer has other benefits but they certainly dont include being able to live without the weak to extort and the poor to farm.

Her cure was to get the state out of the economy tho. Here at ZH, many commenters/posters demand ever more state control, wailing and wondering why the regulators aren't "doing their jobs" and multiplying their regulations. For every bad gubment intervention, there's a call for more.

The SUBURBS around detroit are 90% white and have great living standards and functioning schools. This same trend is evident all over the US. Whites were forced to flee urban cores to escape the crime, violence, and incivility of blacks, and to ensure their children aren't forced to go to "school" with a population that lacks the aptitude to graduate greater than 50% of its numbers.
Blacks in schools are immense resource drains. Once their population rises to a certain point, the school is lost. It becomes more like a prison at that point, and anyone who has a child that they care about moves to a better district. This is the unspoken fact even among blacks. I personally know several who did the same white flight.
Trav, I believe you've put the cart before the horse. The minorities move in because it's cheaper and their wage rates are lower due to ingrained racial prejudice. It doesn't happen all at once. One could also argue that the suburban model was doomed from the start since it ignored thousands of years of experience in building viable cities.

Is it not interesting that prostitution and drug dealing are mentioned as being two of the only viable businesses that remain in the city. Is it because they are not regulated by government? (Accepting bribes to 'look the other way' is not considered regulation.)

I was just in that city like 2 years ago. The RenCen is pretty much the only skyscraper in that skyline that is not completely empty, as in boarded up and vacant.

I have one adopted child of a mixed race that came to us when his idiot (black) single mother was foreclosed upon after not paying her mortgage for one year. She didn't even bother to tell her children. They came home from school to find all their belongings on the front lawn. Did that bitch even bother to hold these two boys while they went through the shock of the situation? Fuck no, she ran to the nanny state to collect more of my tax dollars. No literaly, she left them to cry for a month at our house because or children were friends. Even her own kids hate her guts now. US citizens would like to paint the human activity known as production as being self-perpetuating. That has been one of their big gimmicks.
But the reality is that this human activity consumes resources, that work is a drain on resources.
Production of IP guzzles resources.
While facts point at US citizens as main origin of the current situation, they would want their cheap propaganda to hide what it cant.
Living gobbles resources. There is an alternative. I hear on the other side, it isn't a US driven world. It's supposedly driven by some guy wearing sandals, though I don't know if his name is Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, Shiva or Zeus.
Whenever I hear someone talking about using resources, I wonder what it would mean to distribute resources, or use resources, fairly. Do we split up according to national borders, given San Marino the same amount as China? Do we distribute on a per capita basis, handing the advantage to whatever nation has been the most biologically irresponsible---which for all of human history has been China? What about people who decide not to have kids...do they get a bonus since they won't be producing future generations of resource gobblers? Or do we just let Darwin decide?
When you rail against "US citizens", it seems to me you actually mean white US citizens. I may be wrong. I'm no supremicist, since my own contribution to the march of human progress is unlikely to make the history books, but pound for pound the white male has been pretty productive in advancing the body of human knowledge. Even today, only about 11% of the species is white, non-Hispanic, but from Newton to JC Maxwell to Einstein the discovery and invention is rather astonishing. I know people have written books trying to explain this phenomenon, though in "polite company"---another way of saying when trav7777 isn't in attendance---such things are not discussed. We are left instead with the vocal majority, like you, who can only find fault with "US citizens", and where majorities can have their XXXX Pride Day or make verbal boasts of being "proud of my XXX heritage", when if a white male makes such a statement he is immediately labelled a Supremicist.

Here's something you might find fun. Well, actually you will not find it fun. It is a parlor game I like to play to get people to see their own biases and rationalizing. Take a speech from some non-white person in which the speaker talks of "pride" and "heritage". Replace every ethnic descriptive with "white" or "Caucasian". Takes on an entirely different feel.
I stole that idea from a former ethnic Indian writer for a Hong Kong newspaper, who used the speech given at the handover of Hong Kong to China in 1997, to make a point. Lines such as "a great day for Chinese people around the world" sounded quite different when read "a great day for white people around the world". At that time, there was an Australian female politician who was lambasted in Asia for wanting to limit Asian immigration to Australia (Pauline Hanson?). This was pure hypocrisy. A good friend of mine in HK was of Portuguese origin. His family had come to Macau several hundred years ago, then moved to Hong Kong sometime in the early 1800's. He spoke fluent Cantonese. He married a Chinese woman who had stolen across the border into Hong Kong from the mainland when she was nineteen. After 1 July 1997, he was unable to get a Hong Kong passport, because citizenship by the Basic Law was only "open to all of Chinese ancestry". Everyone in his biological family from nearly ten generations had been born in Macau and Hong Kong. He tried for years to make his case and get a Hong Kong passport. Eventually he had to get a British passport. His wife, of course, easily got a Hong Kong passport.
The point of all of this? Not much, except that you have become a rather tedious bore who might try looking into his own heart to discover the real source of your continuing resentment.

His ilk, which are the 'passive producers' apparently, will find themselves unprepared to deal with any upset in the current standards of living and services. I see them all over and avoid them like the plague they are. I've turned them away as clients because their 'air of superiority' or their expectation of services without paying for it becomes apparent fairly rapidly and it's best to leave them to drown in their own pool of 'success'. That is, they turn off so many vendors that soon no one will even consider working with them and they find that they did in fact need help from someone else to be successful. We have them in our 'neighborhood' and they quickly make themselves known by talking down about absent residents, putting Obama signs in their yards, and never lifting a finger to help in fixing a road, removing a tree off a fence, etc. They are excluded from most social gatherings at that point, are never included in discussions of what may come in the next few years and how to prepare for it, and get the blanket 'Love to lend it to you but it's not working at the moment' when they need to borrow a tool. Well put. Yes, you hit on a great point regarding semantics and the co-opting of words and institutions to serve a darker purpose. What is my idea of cummunity? Here is an example; I installed a couple sewer lines on two of my properties this summer. A retired couple that lives next to me saw what was going on and mentioned that they were thinking about running a line too. (Like many others, their 401k has been raped). I organized a meeting in that neighborhood (about 18 homes, all on septic) and ended up installing two other lines for the cost of the diesel fuel in my excavator. We turned their septic tanks into cisterns that now collect the rain water from their homes. I left wide PVC lines so that they can drop sub pumps in if they want to pump the water out (I got another friend to pump out the tanks). Sorry, I wasn't going to pay for sub pumps for everyone.
To these lazy fucknuts, "community" means "what do I get out of the relationship". To me, it means "how can we work to make our quality of life better". Already watering my yard and 25 acres of farmland from some cisterns and a well.
