2011 - The Year Of The Earthquake: A Visual And Auditory Guide
If there is one thing 2011 taught us is that one totally unpredictable and unexpected event, such as the great March 11 Tohoku earthquake, tsunami, and Fukushima disaster, can wreak massive havoc on otherwise stable economic ecosystems, models and forecasts. According to many, most certainly the Fed, the events in Japan had a major spillover effect on global GDP that lasted for months, in turn forcing fiscal and monetary responses around the world. A true black swan. As the following brief video summarizes, 2011 was the year of earthquakes. Has the earth become increasingly unstable? Will the pattern from 2011 continue into 2012 and beyond? Is mother nature getting angrier? We have no idea, but we do know that the following clip is quite awesome: make sure you have your volume turned up high.

Fukushima tsunami was an unbelievable disaster. Hard to imagine how many people died and how far inland the water went.

Shall we play a game?
We're on an 188 day earthquake cycle. Next one up in a few days. All explained here:
http://poleshift.ning.com/page/posting-guidelines
After reading this, everything makes sense.
We need take the Long View, get the Big Picture. Earthquakes are good. Shows we have a relatively young, geologically active planet with an enormous, molten iron core that keeps the magma moving, volcanoes exploding, sliding those tectonic plates around. That core also creates the magnetosphere that holds our life-sustaining atmosphere in place. Look at Mars. Cold, dead planet; atmosphere mostly gone. We don't want to be like Mars.
This is a cult site run by someone who says a rogue planet will cause a pole shift this year. She knows this because she hears voices from the little grey butt burglars from Zeta Reticuli. If that's not enough reason to call bullshit, here are the first two rules for her site:
Frankly, these sites are so stupid, baseless and unbelievable that you have to consider that they're being purposely setup to discredit and obscure valid or real conspiracies, corruptions or surprising and contrary observations that threaten the conventional knowledge, as people look at all these bizarre claims and unsourced and unsupported dirge, and just summarily reject it and anything resembling it.
Thus consolidating the status quo.
The truth is more than strange enough. Why bother to make up stupid speculative embellishments?
Don't know about that site in particular, but the government certainly does these sorts of things regularly to distract the conspiracy theorists, discredit an idea, figure out how to manipulate people, build lists, and pick fights. They mostly do it with UFOs, stupid leftist youth movements (i.e. Kony2012) and to some extent they do it with 9/11 (see, for example, the hologram planes theory). Something to hide?
And yeah, the 188-day earthquake claim is bogus too. There is only one quake cycle which is accepted as such. It is localized to Parkfield, CA and it isn't very accurate in its timing.
I don't take parkfield seriously at all.
The closest thing to a 'cycle' of quakes I know of are patterns in volcanic (non-tectonic) siesmic-swarms associated with magma movements, prior to and during a volcanic eruption. These can express as cyclic behaviours of induced strong ground vibrations (as opposed to high energy transient shocks), that register as 'quakes', created (in theoretical terms) due to the shape of the conduit 'plumbing' of the particular magma chamber. (there's some trivia!)
Earthquake occurance is stochastic.
There is no 188 day earthquake cycle, nor any other.

Massive earthquake in LA soon.
Soon in human terms or geology terms?
Within 9 months. I have forseen it.
Why you guys gotta always HARP on Mother Earth about her troubles?
If there were an earthquate, Obama could just fly counter-earthwise around the earth to go back in time, and give a speech to it. No worries.
I would welcome a massive New Madrid quake if it would break apart the socialist corrupt thug USSA. Anything to get free of the future of control we face from our federal government.
It's wishful thinking... it's very unlikely that any disaster is going to sow the seeds of freedom.
We're much more likely to get a military dictatorship after a National level disaster.
I would agree. the government is obviously preparing to do exactly this.
I seem to recall that the first responders to be sent into New Orleans after Katrina were heavily-armed mercenaries from Blackwater, not humanitarian relief workers.
It might take something like Yellowstone to do that. There are days when I wish it would blow.
Guns vs Butter bitchezz. Too busy with wars. Nothing else matters , only war and Oil .

Wasn't it Elenin that was going to kill us all?
Tiger's wife? Is she still pissed?
Why would she be? She don't have to play the flute on the golden 9 iron any longer, and has a check book now.

Birth Pangs.
Soon, my friend.
Very soon.
Most Amerikans think quakes only happen here in Kalifornia. Looks like the real action is on the other side of the plate.
Well there was a 9 in Chile in 2010. That is what is so ominous. Sumatra, Chile and Japan. Three mega quakes in less than 10 years. That's a bit unusual.
It is not unusual at all.
What is happening now is typical of what's been seen in digitised seismic records, going back since the early 1960s.
Humans have been seismically observing the Earth for the merest blink of an eye--and incredibly small sliver of the earth's geodynamics.
We've barely seen anything and have at best characterised what generally happens now, but we don't know what is really 'normal' longer-term, and longer term is something that's so long that no human can even comprehend it (let alone be around to measure it).
There are a series of seismic plotting and display programs available from the Smithsonian on DVD, and also this one:

It's well known that earthquakes tend to have antipodal reactions.
This map will help to identify those points:

Wow, japanese earthquake was an absolute gang - F**k
or was it an attack?? seems VERY out of place in view of everything else on the vid... remember Japan was doing biz with Iran before the blast
I think Jim Stone has nailed it:

Considering the active pacific plates encircle the entire pacific and north and south americas, its almost uncanny how FEW earthquake events took place on the west coast of north america. Tension anybody? Glad i live on the Shield.
The Juan de Fuca plate off the Pacific Northwest coast slips about every 350-500 years and is capable of 9's and 10's on the Richter scale. I noticed as you did very few quakes in that region and I had the same thoughts.... tension building there ??
http://myshasta.info/tempest/quake.html
Makes you think the Pacific Northwest is due for some major activity. The rest of the Ring of Fire is active and they are quiet. Interesting....

Interesting link, thanks
He missed one though, the explosion at Port Chicago, CA on July 17, 1944. This demolished the E.A.Bryan and another ship and killed almost 300 black stevedores. As an aside, I stood at ground zero in early '93 and I didn't find out about it 'till I returned from the ME.
Peter Vogel has put together a fascinating e-book

Sigh!
I wasn't trying to address size (I have no problems with that) but WHAT. LOL
The documentation and conclusion show Port Chicago to be the 1st nuke explosion, what it was (uranium hydride), and where (civilian area- not a nevada test site).
Nevertheless your links are interestying, thankx.
Seems to level out towards the end. Obviously the Fed needs to inject some more QE.
Electric universe theory. Posit we (as a planetary system) are moving into an area of the universe that is more highly electrically charged... wouldn't that affect the stability of the earth's plates? Mechanism? I don't know... perhaps the sun... maybe the electricity affects the earth directly. Why would we be told any of this? Why wouldn't it all be denied? After all- wait, what did Lloyd say? Disgruntled employee, nothing to see here, move along... and wouldn't the same electricity affect the human brain? Those habituated to doing evil will become more evil- Lloyd, Jamie, Jon, Barack, (er Barry), Benji, Timbo etc, etc, while those who have purposed in their hearts to do good, will be confirmed in their goodness?
Just sayin'.
As we continue to frack and crack the rock plates through out the world more instability will appear. The number of earthquakes in the US is rising quickly. Who knows? Ten more years of this and we may quake our way back to the stone ages.
I live in Seattle.
It is going to be spectacular.
Could you imagine the devestaion of a Tsunami in the Hood Canal ??? All that water trapped in there with no place to go but in-land.....
Cute: A cumulative count always goes up. Slope seems fairly constant after the spike early in the period. The number of worldwide earthquakes was around 30,000 pa from '03-'08, 15,000 in '09 then around 20,000 in '10-11. There's probably some reverse correlation between frequency and magnitude.
Our sun is moving through the Milky Way. It drags the solar system along with it. Don't you think that new gravitational influences will occasionally have an effect on the push & pull of the third rock from the sun?
No. There's no way to effect the Earth from that distance of objects not even in the solar system, without affecting everything else in a way that's proportional to the momentum, the mass, of the objects. Such as the moon, our tides, our sun itself, other planets near us. EVERYTHING rotates in the galaxy. Our sun is not the only one & they tend to rotate in the same direction relative to the center.
Pretty much you need to ask this: what kind of gravitational force could distort the crust positions enough to cause a quake yet NOT raise tides, NOT move the moon, not change how long our days are, and so on?
One thing that is striking about this video is how little activity is on the California side of the Pacific plate. I saw a presentation from a geologist regading this - this video supports the geologist presentation. There must be a tremedous amount of pressure built up in this area. It should be intersesting when this area starts to move.
And if they start to move across the globe all at the same time? If they trigger e/o in an avalanche of earthquakes around the ring?
Sounds like someone needs to rent "Escape from LA" starring the ravishing Kurt Russell. California breaks off from the US after a major earthquake and they make it the new Alcatraz. Cameo by Peter Fonda, dude!
I was looking at Corona California. Isn't corona mexican for piss?
Corona = crown (English)
Sorry Tyler, but FUCK YOU for equating a GLOBAL LOSS OF LIFE into a GDP loss. Seriously...are you fucking retarded? I mean..yeah your right...less people = less whatever. But to dumb it down into something so trivial...so mathmatical.....it's robotic and inhumane.
p.s. I love this site and am one of it's oldest members. 2 years 30 weeks
If you think economic loss has nothing to do with loss of life, I don't know what to tell you.
The above article points out that the losses go far beyond the immediate deaths due directly to a natural disaster. The economic losses that follow can be catastrophic as well.
Losing the life of a loved one is painful. But someone who's family is living but cannot afford to eat feels pain that is every bit as real.
During WWI and WWII, there was global loss of life. But those living struggled to survive. Should we ignore that struggle, lest we offend the dead for recognizing it?
By watching that video and recognizing (mathematically) the odds that another earthquake will eventually strike, I can get a dose of reality and make sure I am prepared to protect my family. Mathematical representation of the truth sometimes hits people hard enough to make them realize, it could happen to them too.
It's simply the emphasis on economic life vs. actual life that's offensive. That's all.
I admire the value you place on human life. Sadly, many of us have become numb to the idea of death, because we rarely witness it firsthand. However, because of that, we rarely examine (objectively) the true risks, and we assume we are untouched by something that happens "to someone else". For this reason I think we all need a little mathematical, un-emotional, wake-up call now and then.

A movie "Dr Strangelove"
he will convert humanity into witty sentences meant to goad the pig to war.
As far as the Quakes are concerned the expected percentages of a good 8.0 in the New Madrid will essentially reduce St Louis and Memphis to rubble.
Autozone boasted of a National Headquarters designed to survive the worst Nature can provide etc. However I say there wont be any employees left alive to productively use that building.
That is also one reason everyone here uses a mobile home. It's easier to rock and roll doing the big shake what with the wheels and all.
Big quake in Seattle? Watch out for the Lahars....
Yellowstone? Oh that one will bury the Nation in 3 feet of ash. (It has before, almost to the Gulf Coast and sparing the Carolina s)
California? Good, drop that thing into the sea. Tack on a bunch of tugs and ship the thing to China. That should take a load off our books.
And here is one no one talks about.
There is a Island in the midatlantic. If it shakes and falls into the ocean, 9 hours or so later from Maine to Florida a killer wave will kill 50+ millions all the way inland to the mountains.
I say a flush beats a full house? Eh?
http://kushmonster.blogspot.com/2012/02/scientists-suggest-haarp-involve...
good link, many thanks.
Gezus guys, don't you even understand that continents are formed, deform and generally become more complex and discontinuous via an endless series of huge regular earthquakes?
It's a process called geodynamics.
It's been around as long as the Earth has been.
Mt Everest was marine sea floor that was thrust upward by thousands of separate huge earthquakes. At the top you find marine limestone.
So are you really going to buy into this absurd idea that present era earthquakes are created by HF antennas?
Especially when these are occurring in exactly the same geodynamically active zones that they have been occurring in for millions of years. And the magnitudes that we have evidence of in terms of the effects recorded in the rocks, and are exactly the same as what we see occurring today.
Are you really going to go with this idea that these event are not prosaic routine geodynamic earthquakes?
I suggest you don't.
Tyler, what this post/thread is suggesting is complete bunk.
Anyone who looks at the 9,300 quakes >4.5 scattered around the planet during those 12 months (that's 25 a day, for those who only got as far as college math) -- including almost continuous quakes at the Japanese plate joint over a period of 4 months from March to July -- and still belives it was HAARP, needs a lobotomy for their own safety!
While sitting in the E.R. with our oldest son today (keep you kids of skimboards), we were all having a chat about the Executive Order O'Bama just signed.
It makes me wonder what sort of government-made collapse they are intending or at a minimum, hoping for/counting on.
One of us suspects an economic collapse but I'm starting to wonder if there won't be some EMP or other disaster so the gubbermint can initiate its martial law and get everyone's attention shifted off of the economic crimes committed on the citizens. There is just no way they can cover up what has happened to our economy and I suspect the preferred "reset" would come from a disaster of sorts.
Just a thought...from wandering conversations. I just feel that feeling - that "something is around the corner for us".
argh. Dutchsinse. Sorry to say that that youtuber likes to add in pictures, data or commentary that has nothing to do with reality, evidence, whatsoever. Not to be too harsh a critic but that's just so far over the line credibility is shot.
Apparently Dutchsinse is a debunker:
http://poleshift.ning.com/page/main-establishment-lies
no, Dutchsinse gets debunked. I've got him a couple times myself on his "HAARP circles" where there are none. He flat out makes shit up.
One possibility worth considering is actually global warming.
We know that scientists are measuring a degree or two of higher ocean temperatures, but what is happenning far lower?
If we consider the crust as an enormous insulator, it stands to reason that heat still penetrates slowly through it. That is to say, the core of the planet is slowly cooled by the oceans, and heated from the inside by tidal forces, and who knows, perhaps a massive fission reaction of very heavy elements (uranium) at the centre.
So what if the 70* of the planet that is covered with ocean warms slightly? Could this cause portions of the crust to melt, thinning it over time?
Here's an experiment for you. Cook some canned soup on a stove. Turn it down slowly until a skin forms. Then put a lid on it.
You should see that the previously stable skin slowly melts back into the rest of the mixture.
Perhaps we're doing the same?
Yep ... you nailed it! A 0.2 degree rise in the 2,000°F magma down there would, of course, be expected to wreak havoc!!
Who knows, you may get a Nobel Prize for this. Stranger things have happened with the Nobel ... cough Obama cough Krugman cough
As it happens people already seek to use cooling from the deeper Earth to regulate higher heat on the surface. No question that deep enough down there's hot magma but we don't drill that far down. What's heat on the surface is largely driven by the infrafred blanket, co2, methane & water vapor, holding in the day's heat. Otherwise underground anywhere that's been hot would be the source, you could measure & even film it with IR cameras. It isn't the case most of the time, hot-spring / volcanic areas excepted of course.
LOL ... The plates that cause earthquakes float on magma. Though earthquakes [generally] don't occur close to the magma, they do frequently occur more than 70km below the surface -- where the temperature is greater than 700° ... again making the mean surface temp change of 0.2° ridiculously irrelevant.
Ya, and those plates are so thick that the magma's heat, without a channel to bring it up, is staying down there. That's why a 0.2 degree surface difference matters for us, which isn't to do with internal earth temperatures.
