Apple Announces First Weekend iPhone 5 Sales Of 5 Million, Half Off Highest Estimate

Tyler Durden's picture

There was much riding on the Apple update for the first weekend sales from the new iPhone 5 and here they are.

This number would be great if only it wasn't 50% off the highest whisper estimate of up to 10 million sales in the weekend. It is also the reason why the stock is now sliding down well over 2%, threatening to light the AAPL hedge fund hotel on fire.

Too much hype by comscore over the weekend that it has beaten all the record.

GetZeeGold's picture

Blue light pushing or shoving.

This is Kmart......there will be order.

LongSoupLine's picture

Good thing demand is only half with Foxconn burning to the ground...

GetZeeGold's picture

When did that happen?

The problem with you is you can't seem to focus......the subject here is AAPL If you want to talk about Fox....wait for Tyler to post it.

LongSoupLine's picture

well, I meant the riots.  Perhaps I embellished a bit for dramatic effect...blushing

GetZeeGold's picture

Sorry Amigo.......OWS is dead.

LongSoupLine's picture

ummm, I'm a bit confused by your responses regarding "Fox" and "OWS" do know what I'm referring to...right?  "Foxconn"

GetZeeGold's picture

Yeah......I shifted it.

I'll wait a while.....and let you catch up.

LongSoupLine's picture

That may take a's Monday, I'm still drunk, and only have had 1 cup of coffee.

fyi, based on the junks I see on your responses, everyone else hasn't caught up either

Sorry.....I wasn't aware.

fyi, based on the junks

I always wear full body armour on Mondays.......didn't notice.

I've been steadily green arrowing GZG.

kridkrid's picture

He's funny. Constant sarcasm isn't everyone's cup of tea. Works for me.

GetZeeGold's picture

Then you're in full tilt retard.

monkeyboy's picture

So APPL's not going to a TRILLION???

Stoploss's picture

I saw the new Galaxy S3 commercial last night.

AAPL gots trouble..

GetZeeGold's picture

I saw it and I bought it.........ROCKS!!!

TWSceptic's picture

It's still a cheap plastic South Korean copycat without style.

I got the 5, it's simply the best smartphone ever. Haters gonna hate.

ParkAveFlasher's picture

I totally don't hate you, I just think you're a shmuck.  Like a nerd just, not actually intelligent.

You care about a phone that tells you when, where, and how to shit.

I get the free phone with the plan and spend the $400 on pussy.

edit: I get the free phone with the plan and spend the $400 on pussy or .9999 silver.

AldousHuxley's picture

apple "invented" smartphones like columbus "discovered" America with "Indians".

the chipset, LCD panel, etc....all created by Asian R&D centers

apple just puts shit together in a nice box and had steve jobs douche bag tell fanboys that they are gods.

pretty soon, when the Asians do their own global marketing and sales (not that hard compared to R&D engineering)....then Apple will proably just run over to government for bailout or sales just like most of Fortune 500.

even fucking drone tech was hacked by shithole Iran. Country lagging in technology soon becomes just another museum tourist destination for richer citizens.

value chain:

Raw commodity export --> cheap labor --> skilled manufacturing --> R&D OEM --> Global marketing and sales channel --> Global brand --> Tourist Destination --> Raw commodity export

Colonel Klink's picture

Just remove the C from your user name and I think you pretty much nailed it.

spastic_colon's picture

time to change all of the economic reports to include Samsung [sarc sorta]

GetZeeGold's picture

Everything I own is made by Samsung.......maybe I should buy it.

AldousHuxley's picture

In Korea, you don't own Samsung, Samsung owns you.

EscapeKey's picture

Well, personally I'm waiting for availability of the Goophone I5:

Problem with Samsung's S3 is that with cheap androids such as those above, margins will race towards zero very, very quickly.

edit - not forgetting their awesome tagline; "This changes anything. Again."

kridkrid's picture

I saw an iPhone 5 commercial last night and thought ruh-roh. It was showing me the mechanics of my thumb and my thumb's ability to traverse a space slightly larger than the space previously represented by the screen size of the iPhone 4. It almost seemed like parody, but it wasn't. It was a white flag. The Fonz is in midair and happy days are/is behind us.

Spastica Rex's picture

I can't wait to hear the air go out of this balloon.

kridkrid's picture

Until you realize that AAPL is nothing more than a metaphor... Or even then, I suppose... But schadenfreude is better enjoyed when the whole world isn't burning down.

kridkrid's picture

TWSkeptic didn't like your post. Shruggs shoulders.

spastic_colon's picture

looks like the CPI reports may have a problem....appears that extra line of icons won't be enough to keep it in check, let's be clear, the only reason these new igadget releases are useful is for TPTB to be able to control the CPI

Debtonation's picture

When is the iPhone 6 coming out?  I can't wait any longer!

EscapeKey's picture

Krugman's next article will surely highlight how awesome the economy would perform, would Apple release a new iPhone every 3 days.

Spastica Rex's picture

As I've said, drop iPhones out of helicopters.

Pad the boxes.

LongSoupLine's picture

Soon...It'll be called the Foxconn 1.  Mail order it from Brazil.  /sarc (sort of)/

That's gonna leave a mark.

My vote is for US Bonds but what do I know.

Cursive's picture

Maybe if the 5 was 20% heavier than the 4S, it would have sold 10M units.  A $700 stock that's subject to the changing and whimsical tastes of the public.  What could go wrong?

LawsofPhysics's picture

yes, a toymaker with this kind of "valuation".  I'll only add that you are also talking about a public with increasing less purchasing power as the entire world is now playing a fiat game.  No currency is backed by gold, hence, everyone wouldbe wise to turn all paper promises into something of physical value.  Remind me, what's value of the ithingy when the power, internet, and cellular network all go down again?

laomei's picture

An ever less-effective paperweight.

ParkAveFlasher's picture

I'm still waiting for you to send me my Foxconn application, laomei.

Spastica Rex's picture

What's the value of the "C" on a Coach bag?

Stupid is as stupid does, luckily for the marketeers.

AlaricBalth's picture

Amen SR.
And who the hell is Christian Louboutin? My fiancé went to Bal Harbour on Saturday and came home with a pair of shoes that cost 1/3 of an ounce of gold. For shoes!!! Geez...I still wear a pair of Sperry Top-siders that are older than her. Then she put her new shoes on with some fishnet stockings and a mini skirt, and all was right in the world.

What a sap. I'm so easily manipulated.
