As Hugo Chavez Wins Presidential Re-election Someone Makes Absolute Killing On InTrade

Tyler Durden's picture

Moments ago the Venezuelan Electoral Council (one wonders if the term 'Hanging Chad' has a different meaning down there?), announced that with 90% of the votes counted, and an 80.4% turnout, the winner of 54.4% of the vote, and still reigning presidential champion, is Venezuela's Hugo Chaved. This is not surprising. What is quite stunning however, is that someone made an absolute killing in the Chavez reelection contract, which after trading in the 80s range (indicating an 80% probability of reelection), dipped moments ago to the low 20s, following speculation Chavez may be on the way out, only to soar to 99.9 as of the last trade. In other words, someone just made 5x their money on the Chavez vote in minutes, money which has most likely been well spent on Cuban Cohibas by now. Congrats.

The exit polling was 51-48 for Henrique Capriles but it comes out 54-45 for Chavez, that about right.  Chavez picked out 55% to 57% as his winning number but cut it back a little when he saw the strong (winning) performance of Capriles.

Whoever counts the votes wins.

In America we have the Republicans must win by 3% rule.  If it’s a close election democrats win 100% of the time.

A fucking fraud show.

Pass a constitutional amendment restricting every federal government in the world to 10% of the GDP and be done with it.  Government and politicians are useless assholes that are the clown to distract the world from the theft bankers commit, nothing more.

The thugs with the guns that beat the peasants to death for the bankers.

When the fiat dies there better be some mother fucking bankers heading to South America.

The 3% rule is called the Al Gore rule.  It been used quite often in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Washington State, Florida, South Carolina, and all over the USA.  If you are a republican you must win by 3%.  Just ask Norm Coleman or Dino Rossi.

Rand that's just retarded. They counted those votes four times and Gore kept wanting a recount. It had to be settled. After the vote was over and the election was passed various third parties recounted the votes and it always came out that Bush was the winner. For the record I didn't vote for nor support Bush but I condemned what was going on because I knew it wasn't good for the nation.
Looking back and researching it I now realize it was all part of ushering in the new world order. They had to make us lose faith in our institutions. A plan they continue with today.

Fuck Rand get out of the red blue illusion and think these things through.

Fuck Engali, M.D. and your $400 aspirin.   My point is that the votes don't count.  It is demonstrably true that the votes don't count here or elsewhere, as evidenced by Chavez and Bush before him (no, I don't care if Gore won or lost, but facts are facts and anyone who wants change must understand how the system works).  As it concerns Bush/Gore, the Supreme Court was sharply divided on party lines so the idea that it was somehow "the rule of law" just goes to show what you all mean when you talk about same.

The really shocking bit for me (not American) was how in Jeff Bush's Florida in traditional black and poor neighbourhoods (which were likelly to vote Democrat) there were fewer voting boots and they closed while there were still many people waiting to vote.

That and how the code for Diebold machines was never opened to examination by independent 3rd parties.

That was the moment middle America bent over, pulled their pants down and got it good and hard with no lube. That day The Powers That Be got their confirmation that they could get away with anything: all the shit that happened since then culminating in the imminent destruction of the USD as the World's Reserve Currency is just the natural result of that.

Not saying that Red team is better than Blue team, just saying that when you can fix the election the dynamic of how much is it worth to buy someone and how much incentive does that person has to stay bought changes.

A fucking fraud show.

"Former US President Jimmy Carter has declared that Venezuela’s electoral system is the best in the world.

Speaking at an annual event last week in Atlanta for his Carter Centre foundation, the politician-turned philanthropist stated, “As a matter of fact, of the 92 elections that we’ve monitored, I would say the election process in Venezuela is the best in the world.”

Venezuela has developed a fully automated touch-screen voting system, which now uses thumbprint recognition technology and prints off a receipt to confirm voters’ choices.

In the context of the Carter Centre’s work monitoring electoral processes around the globe, Carter also disclosed his opinion that in the US “we have one of the worst election processes in the world, and it’s almost entirely because of the excessive influx of money,” he said referring to lack of controls over private campaign donations."

I'm late to the party, but please allow me to take a crack at this.

If you are a medical facility and serve low income people, then government policy does force such distorted charges, to a degree. Because Medicare and Medicaid, the latter being the worst, pay below market value for services, the price that gets paid by others ends up being higher as a result.  It is true that there is no gun to the head of the providers and that the volume of business brought in by accepting these patients helps pay the fixed costs, but in some places those patients make up such a large part of the patient base that it really does skew the calculations enough that the only way the lights can stay on is by charging an absurd amount for services that aren't as closely controlled by the system. Imagine that the prices of getting an oil change was covered by your insurance company and that an oil change company would normally charge people $30 for a typical change. If insurance only allowed the labor charge to be $1 and the price billed for the oil to be another $1, don't you think you'd be billed $28 for an oil filter if it was allowed? And are you really paying $28 for the filter or is that a paperwork issue that makes it stupid to focus on the component pieces? Or to put it another way, when you buy a new car, do you really care if the dealership gives you $5,000 for your trade in and charges you $25,000 for the new care (for a net of $20,00) or "gives" you $10,000 for the same trade in but charges you $30,000 for the same new car (for the same net, of course)? For the sake of this, forget all other external options.

Part of the issue has to do with service code billing. Every little thing a doctor or provider does, has to have a code that is submitted to the state agencies as well as private insurance companies for reimbursement. The bill doesn't simply say that the patient was treated for a heart issue, it lists out every test, every exam, every drug and every other service provided.  There are tens of thousands of codes that are very, very specific to what is done, on what body part and by whom. If you need stitches that run for one inch, that's a different code and reimbursement allowance than you'd use for a two inch stitch. yet, if you walked into 100 different clinic with the exact some problem, you'd be amazed at how much variance there would be in the service codes that were submitted for reimbursement. While if you paid out of pocket, that hoop jumping would not need to occur (although it likely would, because the provider is so tied up by contract with the insurance companies, that some costs get passed on to those who don't have that protection).

And, because government policy establishes the service providing monopoly, competition is limited and true price clearing signals are prevented.

In short, rand, it is very complicated and is not at all as clear as paying $400 for a couple pills. Any more than the DoD pays thousands for a hammer.

If you want me to dissect this further, I'd be happy to do so.  Just ask.  So you know, I own a medical facility, so I am very involved in the day to day of all this. And, no, before you put words in my mouth, it isn't a good system and there are many, many ways it could be better.

Are we to expect that any trade negotiation between Amerikka and Venezuela would benefit the person on the street? We're just looking to destroy more food/farming infrastructure of other countries.

When we start worrying about the American people and quite butting into everyone's fucking business around the world, maybe Chavez can be thought of otherwise. In an 'american' world, it is not. And if confirmed, then Chavez is empoverishing his nation.

Clearing one's debt is empoverishing oneself in 'american' economics. It suppresses your own consumption and boost the lender's consumption. By 'american' economics, it is all wrong.

The way to grow richer in 'american' economics is to find ways always to go deeper into debt, to consume even more.

If confirmed, this stupid bravado by Chavez should be extremelly worrisome to Venezuelans as it means that they are now prime to be shackled with heavy debt, once again, 'american' style.

Never clear your debts in 'american' economics, always try to find ways to go deeper into debts, this is an essential.

Too bad for Venezuela, Chavez will drive them deeper into poverty even with all that oil.

"Under Chavez, poverty fell to 31.6 percent at the end of 2011 from about 50 percent when he first took office. Extreme poverty declined to 8.5 percent from about 20 percent over the same period. Venezuela has the lowest level of inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean, according to the United Nations."

I am very sad that you're the only person who has pointed this out. For all the bitching there is on ZH about politicians misrepresenting facts, a lot of commenters here aren't any better. Especially as soon as they're talking about something that has the word "socialism" associated to it.

Speaking of specimens, have you been stirring up trouble on Easter Island by leaving your 'specimens' on the sides of their new roads?

By them, it was meant to be 'americans'. Chavez, with his fuzzy dealing, kind of always trying to substract his country's national resources from the 'american' consumption patterns, is the guy who is driving 'americans' into poverty.

The world exists for 'americans' to consume it. Dont stand on their ways, their consumption urge turns them in juggernauts who back down on nothing to get their consumption habits enforced.

THIS JUST IN:

Air Force One detoured into Caracas tonight to deliver the Venezuelan expat vote from Chicago.  Under Venezuelan law, anyone who died during El Presidente's previous 6-year term is allowed to cast a vote in today's election.  As a political courtesy, Barack was allowed to vote for his pal Hugo as often as he wanted while on the ground - just to make Him feel "at home".

Barack also extended an invitation to the newly reelected socialist to visit America, and soon.  November 6th has been penciled in and voting laws will be hastily reviewed in this country to see what political courtesies can be offerred Chavez.

That is all, Citizens.
