Turkey Scrambles Two F-16s To Syrian Border

Tyler Durden's picture

For the first time since July, Turkey scrambled two F-16 fighter jets to the Syrian border following a Syrian military helicopter bombed the border town of Azmarin. The WSJ reports that the two fighters flew along the border shortly after 2pm local time following heavy fighting between rebels and Syrian government forces. Booming explosions and the rattle of machine guns around Azmarin could be heard Friday morning from the small Turkish border town of Hacipasa. One eyewitness said the Syrian attack helicopter retreated when the Turkish jets flew along the border. Turkey's move on Friday to scramble jets close to the fighting inside Syria comes amid a sharp escalation of tensions along the shared 565-mile frontier.

Via WSJ:

HACIPASA, Turkey—Turkey scrambled two fighter jets to the border with Syria for the first time since July after a Syrian military helicopter bombed the Syrian border town of Azmarin, eyewitnesses said, underlining heightened tensions along the neighbors' long border.

The F-16 fighter jets flew along the border shortly after 2 p.m. local time, following heavy fighting in between rebels and Syrian government forces in Azmarin, a Syrian border town opposed to President Bashar al-Assad's rule.

Friday's move to scramble jets underlines escalated tensions along the border, but it isn't the first time Turkey has dispatched its fighters during the Syrian crisis. In July, after a Turkish F4 Phantom jet was shot down by Syrian forces, Ankara dispatched F16 fighters from Incirlik base in southern Turkey in response to Syrian helicopters flying near the province of Hatay. Two more F16s were scrambled from a base in the eastern city of Batman after Syrian helicopters were spotted close to the Turkish city of Mardin.

Israel seems to be gearing up for all-out war:

http://thespiritoftruth.blogspot.com/2012/10/nuclear-war-alert-is-israel...

Precisely why remains to be seen.

john39's picture

they would know, since Israel is the primary driver for warmongering in the ME afterall.... funny that, 'god's' chosen addicted to war... hmmm.....

Spirit Of Truth's picture

I think the real pertinent question is: Why are 'God's chosen people' always on the defensive in this world? If you are going against God, who then are you for?

use basic logic.  If an entity created humanity, why would such entity chose one small group and favor such group above all others that he created?   yeah, total logic fail, but great brainwashing tool.    Revelation 3:9, wtfu.

Hugh_Jorgan's picture

Unless, of course, you actually take the time to read the Bible and understand what the covenant between God and "his chosen people" was supposed to be. The commonwealth of Israel has always been open to anyone (which the Jews and Christians will both deny), and they were simply supposed learn and demonstrate God's ways to the rest of the world and not worship anyone but Jehovah. They utterly failed to do this despite being given numerous chances. So, God sent Jesus to show us what it looks like to follow all God's Torah and his ways, (and, of course, redeem us from our sins by his sinless sacrifice as Christians do understand). Israel was never meant to be some kind of exclusionary "cool kids" clique that God designed for them, they were supposed to be everyone who is devoted to Him and Him alone.

You won't hear this angle from the Orthodox Jews or any mainstream Christian denomination. They have both decided that the other is flat wrong and just ignore each other. Sadly, neither side understands how closely their destinies are intertwined in the end, but I feel pretty confident that this is what the Bible actually teaches and either way prophesy says that the truth will seen by all, eventually.

Man in his arrogance will pollute everything he had even a modicum of control over (as with pretty much every organized religious "venture" throughout history). Each person must take responsibility to learn and build their own personal doctrine and NEVER blindly follow someone who appears to have it all figured out. But then again that's the real trick, now isn't it?

Amen to that. God's not the great dictator, He's the great persuader, it's just men opt not to bother listening.

Totentänzerlied's picture

The great persuader has a neat trick up his sleeve: damnation and eternal punishment. Not a dictator, a psychopathic mass murdering tyrant.

Hugh errr Hugh!  An informative post, not sure why the thumbs down, I will +1 you to even it up, I think you've got a good perspective.

(I don't usually pay attention to thumbs down, but in your case I noticed)

You are talking about the elites?  Right?  The know how of the Lower and Middle class people on starting wars is....well a silly thought.  When has a war been started by a farmer, shop owner, or even a shoe cobbler to name a few?

vs.

Presidents, Kings, Queens, to name a few.

I note it doesn't say chosen for what in the bible.  Bad example of human nature perhaps?

How did Turkey know about what was on a passenger plane?  It seems like we are tying to start something here.  http://www.stockingblue.com/851/dirty-tricks-up-turkeys-sleeve/

I know I find it implausible that one of hundreds of Syrians involved could have leaked the news, especially during a civil war.

SeverinSlade's picture

FSA appears to be intentionally attacking the Syrian regime near Turkey's border in an attempt to spark a war between the two countries.  After all we know that the FSA is made up primarily of non-Syrians (who happen to be AlCIAeda operatives).  War with Syria/Iran after November 6th seems increasingly likely.

Christophe2's picture

Alternatively, Turkey is trying to make the fighting easier for the Turkey/NATO mercenary troops in Syria.  Where normally Syria is able to use its attack helicopters to back its ground troops against the terrorist FSA, due to Turkey's F-16's they had to be withdrawn...

Goddamn Zionist Erdogan.  He isn't going to survive this politically (Turks are pissed at him, in no small part due to billions in affected trade), but it doesn't seem like it matters to him...  Heil Israhell!

Wile-E-Coyote's picture

Turkey is only being aggressive because they have NATO egging them on. Bunch of inbred arab mother f****

True. But the inbreeding in those Anatolian valleys is another matter

e-recep's picture

really? why don't you educate us about the matter? which valleys are they? how many valleys are there in anatolia? do you have the slightest bit of idea? or are you just another uneducated imbecile with a typical american high school education?

the fascists will have their war...  its all they know.

cue "border incidents" with NATO member....

a nice electoral dovetailing ensues

NotApplicable's picture

Those "mutual defense pacts" sure come in handy when one needs a war, huh?

JimBowie1958's picture

Yeah, because it doesnt really matter how many Turk civilians get killed by Syrian attacks, intended or not.

The CIA or Mossad probably flew that helicopter by the border to try and start sumpin, right?  /sarc

Lololol

Christophe2's picture

dumbass troll.  What benefit does Syria gain from starting an official war with NATO/Turkey?

*No one* has any evidence that the mortar rounds (a light weapon ideal for insurgents, that requires no complex logistics) was fired by government troops.

On the other hand, we know that the area it was fired from is rife with NATO/Saudi/Qatar-backed FSA terrorists who don't balk at murdering and terrorising the civilians in Syria, and hence wouldn't balk at killing a few Turks either (especially if they are Christian or non-salafist).

Urban Redneck's picture

trafficking in armed attack helicopters, is a world away from small arms (up to and incl. mortars)

operationally, false flags are also more difficult as helicopters are short range, high signature vehicles, meaning owned assets aren't easily repainted and slipped across the border for a false flag op, esp when the host state has any sort of radar infrastructure

You mean no evidence other than Syria's government admitting publicly that their forces did do it, you mean?

Fucktwatface bitch.

Well, she did endorse Romeny, so he's got that going for him.  I think she is just trying to link to the hooker/blow bankers that have bankrolled Romney.

I love how our "democracy" is reliant on people that are going to make a decision on how to vote based on some random alkie's opinion.

NotApplicable's picture

I can't get beyond the fact that there are still undecided voters. I'm like, either the rhetoric works, or it doesn't. The idea of it "kind of" working...

I'm undecided.... About which rifle I'm going to have my children practicing with instead of wasting my time at the voting booth.

Don't know how many people will be influenced by LL's endorsement of Romney, but her credibility is far above that of the jokers that are running for office.

Her one redeeming quality is that she's sexy. Otherwise, completely useless. She'd make a great hooker.. Oh... Wait.

Abraxas's picture

Everything goes as planned and announced. "The axes of evil" are falling one by one. Afganistan, Iraq and Lybia have been "liberated". Syria is undergoing the process. Sudan and N. Korea are not even important. Iran is the next step. You can't say that they failed to communicate to the world what their intentions were.

docj's picture

I think you left out Egypt, but otherwise, yeah.

Abraxas's picture

That's right, Egypt and Algeria have also been undergoing the 'democratisation' process. There have been some minor 'liberations' as well...

JimBowie1958's picture

So when did you  immigrate to one of these shining utopias of shariah bliss?

No?

You Truthers act like t his is all theater when real people are being killed, maimed, tortured and 'disappeared' by these thug regimes on a daily basis.

If you like Syria so much, why dont you go live under Assads enlightened rule?

I am sure you hvae some excuse.

JimBowie1958's picture

Dont project your shit on me, bitch.

lol

Vince Clortho's picture

Yeah.  Take that you "Truthers".

Overfed's picture

Yeah. Now that they've all been liberated, sharia law is no more. Oh. Wait.....

The truth is that it is all theater for consumption by the sheeple. The psycopathic US/Israeli "leadership" that you so blindly adulate don't give a fuck who lives and who dies. 3000 people dying on 9/11 ain't shit compared to propping up the petrodollar and the billions raked in by the bankers and the MIC. Fool.

morpheus000's picture

No one likes Assad. The point is he balances other forces. No one likes the other side either. What is important are the outcomes one wants for ones own side depending on who one is. The rest is just part of the propaganda war.
