The Hunted And The Hated: An Inside Look At The NYPD’s Stop-and-Frisk Policy

When I came into this police force I wanted to help people, but the civilian population, they’re being hunted.  They’re being hunted and we’re being hated.

On the basis of personal experience - must say that the offspring of the Police do tend to be bullies - presumably "just like Dad".

You'll notice that their "transgressions" seem to be generally overlooked too - unlike us lesser mortals' offspring.

your uncle may want to rethink that position when it comes (and it will soon) that his pension is taken from him. When its his turn to paint out a protest sign, he may well find that the "society" out there is really a good bunch of caring, thinking people.

Seems like rights don't matter.  If you haven't seen it, this is an excellent, and entertaining, law school lecture about why one should NEVER talk to the police.  The second half of the same lecture is from a former detective who reveals the numerous ways that he got confessions.  Of course, I could only imagine the fury that the NYPD might pour down on someone actually trying to use these concepts.  It is, however, most interesting and has over 1.9 million views (be sure to watch when to skip the ad at the start).

The "police" serve the monied. The job of police is to keep the jails and prisons full. Private companies supply food, clothing, use the prisoners as slave labor. Private contractors build the prisons, maintain them, union employees get paid. As long as the people put up with this it will not only continue but get worse and the cops will slowly move up to the lower middle class, then middle class, then upper middle class until their jobs pulled out from under them.

Maybe examples like this could help unite the predominately white libertarian community and the minority communities.  We will all have more leverage in our fight for freedom and justice if more of us work together rather than falling for the divide and conquer strategy that the powers that be try to trick us into participating in.

You guys seem to be missing the point.  Look---the perp looked back at the officer in the cruiser as it drove by.  It is extremely discourteous and offensive for a serf to gaze on the majesty of an elite.  The eyes should remain focused on the ground, head bent subserviantly as an offering of the neck, should the elite choose to take it.  Anything less is an invitation for an ass-kicking, at the very least.  Officer Friendly was well within his "rights":

Officer Friendly:   Whatchu lookin' at, fool!!!

Perp:   Jus' lookin', man, aint dat my right???

OF:   You have the right to shut the fuck up, fool!!   I suggest you exercise that right!!  Now spread 'em!!

Perp:   But, whah whah whah, whine whine whine.  Jus' mindin' my own bi'ness, shufflin' along, shuckin' and jivin'...

OF:  Shut the FUCK UP!!   (Hits Perp in back of back of head with billy club, Perp falls to his knees, where a puddle of piss forms on the sidewalk).

Perp:   Aw, man....you didin' haveta do dat....

OF:   (Barking into radio strapped to his right shoulder)  Officer in need of assistance!!  Suspect resisting!!  Suspect resisting!!   (unhooks can of capsaicin pepper spray,  liberally douses the Perp).  There, you little dickhead, pimple on the ass of society....take that!!!!

Perp:  Aw, shit!!   Stop!!   OK, I admit to smothering my grandma for the money in her purse to buy smack!   I admit to bein' a low-life worthless mutha fucka!!   Jus' stop fuckin' with me!!!   (Now a dark stain appears at the seat of his pants).

Officer Friendly (looking around quickly to make sure there's no witnesses):   Say hello to Satan, you worthless piece of shit... (fires two .45 ACP rounds point blank in back of Perp's head, brains splatter everywhere.  Hungry flies buzz in to feast).

This, folks, is the way things should be.  The Perp is part of the 47% who depend on us worker bees to fund his sordid existence.  Officer Friendly is not going to jump anybody in a suit who is obviously a tax payer, so relax.  NY Cops are just taking out the garbage.  It's a dirty job, etc.

While Putin getting ready...

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/world/putin-takes-the-helm-in-russia...

Putin takes the helm in Russia’s biggest nuclear exercises since 1991

President Vladimir Putin took a leading role in the latest tests of Russia’s strategic nuclear arsenal, the most comprehensive since the 1991 Soviet collapse, the Kremlin said on Saturday.

The exercises, held mostly on Friday, featured prominently in news reports on state television which seemed aimed to show Russians and the world that Mr. Putin is the hands-on chief of a resurgent power.

Tests involving command systems and all three components of the nuclear “triad” – land and sea-launched long-range nuclear missiles and strategic bombers – were conducted “under the personal leadership of Vladimir Putin,” the Kremlin said.

New York leads the way in America's fall from freedom to fascism.  Why would any tourist want to visit a city where the cops are so abusive?

Mayor Bloomberg has put a higher priority on eliminating large soda drinks than his citizens being routinely violated  Why does the  media not cover this massive violation of the constitution everyday?

You seem to be forgetting they rigged the US courts to protect the crooked cops, as the very pre-condition of police brutality

Amazing how people even in America think the US courts are like in the movies ... with 1 out of every 140 Americans already in the biggest prison gulag in the world

Yeah, one or two police brutality cases really blatant on video or similar, there is some money paid ... they allow those partly to claim 'the system works'

But most people who get their faces beaten in by cops, arrested on false charges etc., get zip zero and nada ... and stay in prison on top of it

Good luck having a cop abuse you, and then trying to get sympathy from a US judge who gets bribery cash for every person he sentences to custody and slave labour in the for-profit prison corporations

Never been boarded by Coasties in international waters? Run a CG flag up a US Naval warship's mast, and bingo - U.S. blue water sea police. Coastguard LEO ops utilizing Navy assets for extended range and time at sea were a mainstay in the Carribean back in the 80's and 90's while they were looking for dope runners. They even brought their own choppers onboard.  I recall several very nice blue water sailboats being boarded and searched - to no avail - by Coasties in flak jackets w/ automatic weapons. The infamous "safety check." Boarding sailboats beat the hell out of chasing cement carriers. Been there, seen that.

Pardon us for being a bit dim, but we were under the impression (obviously incorrect) that the USA did NOT have jurisdition in International Waters, and such "board and search" missions are a de facto act of piracy.

"Land of the Free" "Home of the Brave"?

Think about it. Think about the creeping fascism at home and the criminal wars and bombing abroad. The use of know terrorist elements to attack NATO unfriendly nations. Syria being a prime example.

Our own cops are becoming like Soviet NKVD, America runs secret torture prisions, we are bombing 7-8 different countries we are not at war with.

USA plans to destroy Syria and bomb Iran. We already fund terrorists that oppose Iran's government. We provided air support to known terrorists in Libya. Don't even ask about our training and funding of death squads across Central America.

Indeed. The "Land of the Free" and the "Home of the Brave". The American Neocon elites are out of control madmen. Both Obama and Romeny support every element in the new fascist America.

The future world is one in which you, your friends and family, and neighborhood defend yourself.  The way it should have been all along.

Only in the fevered imaginations of coddled middle class Americans are "gangs" bad things.  Gangs are in fact an expression of natural human instinct and tribal behavior, and no different from larger, more formal structures like corporations or nations.

wouldn't hold my breath on this... since the real issue has nothing to do with nuclear weapons or Iran's nuclear energy program... this is a temporary diversion at best, and at worst, the last bit of posturing before the war starts in earnest.

Jeez, imagine that. Right before the election.  Who would have thought?

Iran wants their boy back in the White House.  Of course, "negotiations" isn't "agreement." Nor will it stop Iran's nuclear weapons program.

UPDATE:  NSC spokesman denies any agreement to one-on-one talks between U.S. and IRAN.

What kind of retarded airports do you frequent? You ever been to the airport and seen a long line of young blacks and latinos waiting for the machine screening, while the white people skip the line and pass straight to the gate?? Any attacker would just recruit a white person or slip something into a white person's bag. (87 percent of those stopped and frisked are black/latino.)

And does Airport security curse you, shove you, threaten to break your arm, then stop you again after another hundred yards and start over?

You seem to be determined to keep your eyes shut to the suffering of others around you.

This is yet another case of the courts and

regulatory agencies failing us.  Whether it's judges throwing out lawsuit against banks for illegal foreclosures because of the stinking corrupt MERSCORP system, deregulation of the financial industry, dropping rules regulating market share of media markets or reasonable search, the watch dogs are off in the corner chewing the bone tossed by the robbers.  As troubling as all these things are, the lack of rectification by the courts in particular is equally troubling.

A place where politicians are the only ones to commit insider trading, something citizens go to jail for.

Where states legailze marijuana and the fed pursues those who participate in the states lawful activities.

Where grandmothers, children and people who are rehabilating from medical procedures are degraded before they enter an airplane.

The only country in the world who is actve in more than three war zones.

Delete the identified illegals from the incarceration list and the stats are on par with the rest of the world. This doesn't account for the millions more unidentified illegals here on fake id's. Most of the crimes are against Americans.

Your math is way off...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/nake-m-kamrany/incarceration-rate_b_142382...

United States incarceration rate defies the rule of optimal sanction that would promote equity and efficiency. It incarcerates 753 per 100,000; comparable European figures include 153 for England, 96 for France, 92 for Italy, 66 for Denmark and 90 for Germany. The high figures in the United States are caused by imposing punishment rather than rehabilitation as the pendulum for "tough on crime" swung in the 1980s. California's three strike laws, power under proposition 2, direct filing and other tough-on-crime measures are illustrative.

From the link: India has one of the lowest incarceration rates with 281,000 prisoners in their jails.[5] This is a rate of just under 25 per 100,000; given a total population, 1,129,866,154.[5] India reported 1,764,630 crimes in 2007.[5] There were 236,313 assaults and 111,296 burglaries. However most of the criminals are easily granted bail after commiting crime and most of the cases are verdict pending. It would be number one if verdict is pronounced in all the pending cases.[7]

and in this you see the reason why the police are instructed to arrest as many people as possiblek, for any reason. IN some parts of usa, lare cities, I am told that the police actually effect a near 100% arrest rate of youth before their 20th birthday. The reason is this, what is the first thing they always say about someone when in conflict with the government? He had no arrest record, or he was prior arrest record. The latter of course means that person has no credibility before a jury, cannot easily get a job or rent an apartment, is a slave for life. This usa goverhment never does anything except for multiple reasons: stop and arrest is useful to control people, get them into the system, huge prison populations are very profitable businesses. The federal prison system is the largest manufacturer of office equipment in the usa. Former AG Edwine Meese used to own the largest "chain" of half way houses that all released prisoners are required to stay in on realease for several months, etc., etc, etc. Its about control and making money, not about the police.

I remember watching a teen being pulled over.  As he got out of his car, the cop just went nuts on him.  The poor kid tried to duck his head under his arms but the cop was pummeling him with both fists, kicking at him at the same time.  It was as if the cop was having a temper tantrum.  My friend and I were forced to witness this assault for no apparent reason than perhaps a bad attitude (which I did not detect).

This was in Pennsylvania.  Fortunately, in my town, the cops are decent.  They tend to be Christians, I am told.  Maybe that makes a difference.  They are professional and willing to negotiate (talking quietly with you).  I'd like to see the good cops get community/state/national recognition for being Stand-Up Men who maintain their cool at all times.

Police brutality victims must feel extremely vulnerable knowing that the bad guys are the cops and cannot be counted on when you are a victim of a crime.

Speaking of criminals....I had been a cop show fan and do not recall even the worst of the worst (child killers, rapists and serial killers) being treated with this type of humiliation, harrassment, physical assault and disregard  of rights (a lawyer present).

Many of these Cops on what's called a "roid rage".  They are hooked on steroids. They take them to bulk up. Then the testorone is running at super heated levels. That's whne they do a stop and fisk. When they are in that drug induced state, a dropped pen could make them go crazy and start punching the crap out of people. Then again, many of them are just Pschos and enjoy this type of "work". In fact they would be the ones who would say "I can't beleive they pay us to do this. God I love America". You have to wonder if many of these cops understand that they need a "Cop Helper" to get those 250s.

A Decade or more back, most of these cops would never get past the psych weed-out exams they have. Then the Police Departments didn't want Pychos with Sticks and Guns.  Back then, many of the officers also belonged to Army reserves and the National Guard, mainly for the extra income. Then the war in the sandbox called Iraq happened . The reserves, the inactive reserves and the Nation Guard were called up for combat duty in numbers not seen before.

The police forces were getting  strip mined. At first they waited and kept the jobs open thinking the cops would be gone for a single tour like Vietnam. Then they realized , as All Americans did, that these guys were going to be used for the duration, no matter how long it was. So the Police Depts began to call up the marginals that had failed past exams. Once they went through those, then they dropped all pretence and just hired the guys that would do anything to carry a gun and work in uniform. Many of them being rent-a-cops paid at slightly above minimum wage.

This is what large city police forces has evolved too. Who do you think goes when they have to lay cops off now? The least "agressive" ones. The elite want big bad-asses to protect their own. That's the NYPD in a nutshell. That's where a huge majority of the non-producers who get rich by screwing people live and work. They elect one of their own as Mayor and the inevitable happens. Before 9/11 they would have had trouble getting a program like Stop and Frisk going from the rank and file. Not anymore.

Unfortunately, this is a self perpetuating feedback loop.

The more the populace views the police as mindless thugs, the more difficult it is for the police department to attract mentally balanced individuals.

As we have seen, the same goes for the mayor's office.

As an aside, I know a young Hong Kong woman who went to live in NYC for two months for training last fall. She rented a serviced apartment in lower Harlem but was worried about crime.

I said don't worry Harlem is safe now.

This was around when the OWS people were getting beat up.

I think there's a number of reasons why this policy has been adopted.

1.  It is creating a separation between police and citizens.  This makes police feel isolated, and re-inforces their natural tendancy to act as a gang.  This means that when the next level of control is implemented, they will be more willing to commit even more serious infringements of peoples rights - because they will see the general public as enemies/outsiders.

2.  To create a feeling in the general public and citizens that they cannot trust the police, so that when the social situation begins to deteriote - people will not easily be able to engage the police and gain their co-operation in pushing back against further infringement of rights.

This is the way you set up a police state - by creating a serious division between police and public - so that the police can more easily be used as a tool of the state to support a criminal regime - coming soon to the US and EU.

If the police allow themselves to be used and controlled in this first phase - they will find it increasingly difficult to extract themselves from the situation later.  They are being trained to be thugs of the state.

RE: the video. The police complaints are disingenuous - from what I saw of the young men's experiences, and their complaints.

Here's a script that would show genuine police concern to make their numbers without upsetting the community:

'Hey kid. Sorry about this. Just doing my job. Got to stop you. BTW, how's your mother, your father? You gettin' on ok at school? OK. Kid. I can see you are not doin' anything wrong. On you go. Have a good night. See ya around.'

"'Did you really think that we want those laws to be observed?' said Dr. Ferris. 'We want them broken. You fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick, and you'd better get wise to it.

There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible  for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted - and you create a nation of law-breakers - and then you cash in on guilt. Now, that's the system, Mr. Rearden,

that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with.'"

I refuse to visit the US.  The last time I did was for my father's funeral, twelve years ago.

When European friends and associates are planning to visit nyc and ask me for advice, I tell them to stay away from the police on the street, because the police are the major danger to them. Of course, they look at me as if I was nuts but when they return home, they always are sure to tell me that I was correct and how disturbing it was to witness such behavior.

This is just another example of people giving up their rights in the interests of public safety.  This is the problem with America...Americans.

The problem seems to be that most who claim to Love Liberty don't give a shit what's done to black people, plain and simple. And most of the remainder seem to celebrate it.

I was shocked to see this posted by a Liberty Movement head.  Maybe there's hope after all.

I am getting a bit tired of the 'priveledged' running roughshod over us without consequence.

Bloomberg strikes again

http://www.onlinesentinel.com/news/farm-reform-bloomberg-campaign-cash_2012-10-20.html

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg apparently isn't done advocating for former Gov. Angus King in Maine's Senate race.

The New York Times reported Wednesday that Bloomberg -- the billionaire founder of his self-named financial data services and media empire -- is creating a super PAC to funnel $10 million to $15 million into select campaigns across the country in the weeks before the election.

The paper lists King's campaign among them.

If so, this will be the third time that Bloomberg has put his name and his money behind King, an independent still regarded as the race leader. The mayor, also an independent, has already given $500,000 to Americans Elect, a nonprofit that plans to spend at least $1.7 million on independent ads intended to help King. Bloomberg also hosted a fundraiser for the candidate in New York on Tuesday.

Federal law prohibits both Americans Elect and Bloomberg's Independence USA PAC from collaborating with the King campaign. Critics of those laws point out, however, that the prohibition is almost impossible to enforce.
