Romney-Obama III: 'The Brawl In Boca' Live Webcast

Tyler Durden's picture

This evening's main event (well aside from the baseball and the football), taking place in beautiful Boca Raton, Florida will be fought over six rounds focused on the 'never-a-dull-moment' topic of Foreign Policy. After last week's STFU stare on the Benghanzi bungle, we expect the incumbent from the blue corner to come out swinging (on his experience). The challenger from the red corner, will likely keep his distance early on as general items such as 'America's role in the world' are discussed but once his jab has been measured, and the debate switches to 'The changing face of the Middle East', we would expect the haymakers to start to be thrown. Let's get ready to deeeeebbbaaaatttteeeee! And may the first person to point out where the Straits of Hormuz are on a map, win!

These topics will appear in the following order:

  1. America’s role in the world
  2. Afghanistan and Pakistan
  3. Red Lines – Israel and Iran
  4. The changing Middle East and the new face of terrorism — Part 1
  5. The changing Middle East and the new face of terrorism — Part 2
  6. The rise of China and tomorrow’s world

From the Mexican-Mormon branch of the family.

It was a touching story of a poor immigrant family assisted by government welfare and going on to make good on the American dream...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Romney

In the United States, Romney grew up in humble circumstances.[19] The family subsisted with other Mormon refugees on government relief in El Paso, Texas,[20] benefiting from a $100,000 fund for refugees that the U.S. Congress had set up.[21] After a few months they moved to Los Angeles, California, where Gaskell Romney worked as a carpenter.[17][20] In kindergarten, other children mocked Romney's national origin by calling him "Mex".[22][23]

I wonder if either candidate will talk about the historically massive (possibly the largest ever) private equity bubble that has quietly formed and is rarely, if ever, spoken of.

At the very least, it looks like we might be returning to 2008. At worst, it looks like there's a possibility, and some would argue that it's a probability, that we're headed for a massive crisis that will fuel another tsunami of deleveraging.

Thursday's WSJ article, on private equity firms "Debt Fuels a Dividend Boom."

Wall Street Journal: Debt Fuels a Dividend Boom

PE Firms are adding massive layers of debt to companies they own in order to fund payouts to themselves.

The deals are known as "dividend recapitalizations." Private equity owned companies raise cash by issuing debt, the proceeds are distributed as dividends.

We saw this during the buyout phase of the 2000s and it looks as if it is going on again. These private equity firms buy profitable companies, load them up with debt, take a big payout and then issue an IPO on the stock market for the suckers to buy, and also profit from the sale of the stock. The failure rate of these companies, on a statistical basis, is far higher than the normal rate.

Also, amidst all the claims of "record corporate profitability," even by some wise elders who contribute to the ZH top margin, few, if any speak of the counter-factual that publicly traded corporations have issued a record amount of bonds (also known as debt) during the last 3 years. Even considering they floated that debt at historic low yields, there's a far larger principle involved (pun intended), and it's on the order of many trillions of dollars.

Wait...who am I kidding? Of course neither candidate will mention these issues. This "debate" is about foreign policy. They really dodged a bullet with the collective brain trust that formed the "Town Hall" asking economic questions of the "candidates."

Mitt's going to sell off the whole US to the highest bidder, outsource all jobs to the lowest wage payer, start WWIII to distract everyone and retire to the Cayman Islands to be close to his money after it all implodes.

Obama will endeavor to keep the mobs off the streets with more foodstamps while NOT doing anything to hold Wall Street accountable for anything and limiting the upcoming war to the neocon hit list

Does ANYONE really think there's much of a choice between these two?   99.9% of us are screwed no matter who is 'elected'.

If one had DL'ed the BC from the official wh(dot)gov web page and opened it in Adobe Illistrator they could have clicked View>Navigation Panels>Layers and seen that there were multiple layers (7 iirc) to the doc filling in his personal info. Some professionals figured this out so quickly that Alex Jones was reporting on it the same day the thing was released.

I thought the whole thing was bs too though at first, but changed my mind when I saw one of the many lawsuits to block his inauguration was based on that he gave his legal name as Barry Sorento and a diff SS# when renting an apt while going to the Occsidental College in Cali (can't seal that). There were lots of things like this. The funniest to me was that his first book publisher said he was born in Kenya in the tiny bio paragraph on their authors - for six years strait.

Now the dude who created and instated the blueprint for Obamacare in his state is running against him on the issue. Wish I had done more with my life but leaving the house has been difficult this decade.

Not defending either of them, but what kind of math does Penn employ to come up with this one?   By some accounts, Bush killed upwards of one million people.  Obama is picking them off a few dozen at a time.  How about this -- the only difference between Obama and Bush is that Bush pretended to be a cowboy and Obama pretends to be a Constitutional scholar, but they are both war criminals.

Mon, 10/22/2012 - 22:54 | 2911616 jumbo maverick

Funny that you equate it all to a math problem. One million minus a few dozen at a time=?

I have no problem with pulling the trigger to defend yourself or another innocent person but what bush and Obama have done well unless you have pulled the trigger to really understand what it means then you just wouldn't understand.

Mon, 10/22/2012 - 23:18 | 2911681 LetThemEatRand
LetThemEatRand's picture

Did you miss my statement that both of them are war criminals?   The reference to "math" was the absurdity of the attempt by the comedian to state that Bush killed more or less than the other, as if the body count dictates for whom one should vote.  And the irony that his favored candidate killed more.

Mon, 10/22/2012 - 23:31 | 2911699 DaveyJones

a very difficult analysis indeed. But a president who promises to end the war, says he looks forward and not back on the bush administration, expands secret kill lists with science fiction drones, bows to the same financial, war, drug and insurance gods, and continues to exponentially pile on the debt is a serious problem in my book especialy when he pretends and promises to be the opposite. Bush kinda admitted he worships oil not that I love him either. As I always argue, like the debt (and peak oil), each president will get exponentially worse until this place blows.

"Wal-Mart heir funding Obama big time."

How exactly does this fit into your rubric of the "productive class"?   The Wal-Mart heirs occupy several of the top spots for wealthiest people on the globe.  And they do nothing productive with their inherited (e.g., dynastic) wealth other than give a few mill here and there -- chump change for them -- to the political elite so as to garner influence.   Their money buys them tax breaks suipported by the likes of you, and it is a high ROI indeed.

Romney should hit hard that the best foreign policy is a strong domestic economy.  Being a debtor nation in the trillions of dollars to China makes for an awkward foreign policy

Iran, Libya, Middle East are all just big fat f'n distractions.  You can't have a foreign policy of strength when your economy shrinks year by year even with QE^infinity.

Yes, like how he told Jeremy the college kid from the last debate he would find him a job, and then later demanded low wage jobs return from China to America.  First, this is a lie, as Romney would outsource every job he could.  Second, I am sure building iPads for 12 hours/day without a bathroom break is exactly what Jeremy went to higher education for.

No, Jeremy went to higher education to hook up with loose chicks and drink Everclear.

Yes, because all college kids are the same: they don't study, they don't have part time jobs, and they should have just gone to trade school to be a plumber, because fixing a toilet is the hardest thing ever done!

Although unemployment remains high due to a lack of growth, it has picked up since Obama became President.  Bush lost millions of jobs in '08, Obama got them back.  If you think Romney isn't going to outsource jobs like every Republican has ever done, you are a lost cause.  Romney has made his money dismantling companies post bankrupcy. This is what he will do to America.

Anyone can post a bunch of numbers but posting the so called official numbers that many follow are what counts. Without a citation, your numbers are nothing but a dream.

The BLS is supposed to be posting the actual numbers, argue that those are false as they are supposed to have the real numbers from the states.

Please indulge me with your source.

Thanks...

As for Krugman, I notice he is amazingly silent refuting on my post although he has posted to several posters below my post. This can only mean to me that like all liberals, and not knowing how to attack me personally when truth appears, he's got nothing to the (real) purported data I presented. This alone should show what a loser that fucker might be. He either doesn't know how to do simple math (which took me two minutes to refute thanks to google) or he is a disinformation propagandist for Obummer.

I suspect typical liberal propagandist thinking but that is only my opinion...

Altogether, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan could cost the U.S. between $4 trillion and $6 trillion, more than half of which would be due to the fighting in Iraq, said Neta Crawford, a political science professor at Brown University.
Her numbers, which are backed by similar studies at Columbia and Harvard universities, estimate the U.S. has already spent $2 trillion on the wars after including debt interest and the higher cost of veterans’ disabilities.

Economics is one thing turning us into Zimbabwe and Fraud is quite another. Check out who in Congress  told the Fed do less and who in Congress told the Fed to do more. Tell us Paul why didn't obama bring criminal prosecutions against the Banks that bankrolled him?

For all the bluster of Obama, pre- and post-2008, as well as that of Attorney General Eric Holder concerning the alleged criminal activities on Wall Street, there have been zero Wall Street prosecutions under Obama/Holder.  Compare thatwith his predecessors Bush and Clinton:

GAI [Government Accountability Institute] details how the George W. Bush and Bill Clinton administrations both actually took down financial criminals - unlike the Obama administration.  Between 2002 and 2008, for instance, GAI points out how a Bush administration task force "obtained over 1,300 corporate fraud convictions, including those of over 130 corporate vice presidents and over 200 CEOs and corporate presidents."

"Clinton's DOJ prosecuted over 1,800 S&L (savings and loans) executives, senior officials, and directors, and over 1,000 of them were sent to jail," GAI adds.

But, despite having "promised more of the same," especially in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, the Obama administration's DOJ has not brought criminal charges against a single major Wall Street executive.

The Bush and Clinton administrations' track records on prosecuting white-collar crime, and the Obama administration's failure to do so, Schweizer said, is "evidence that this has less to do with some sort of partisan or philosophical issue."

Bush - 1,300 convictions;

Clinton - 1,000 convictions;

Obama - Zero attempts.

You'd think with that flawless record of no arrests on Wall-Street other than the occupy people,  along with that master crime busting task force that took down those foreign  Poker sites, that the Criminals on Wall Street would be a bit more grateful. But Hey, Mitt is one of their own. I mean, who would be a better president for Wall Street, a Guy who thinks economics is a wash and wear product and Wall Street sells it, or a Guy who took companies down using the TBTF bankers? The man who invented Bid rigging so the Major PE players wouldn't bid up a Major takeover target. The man who could singlehandedly  close a factory down , send all the jobs to China, borrow billions to pay his firm dividends then walk away and let the company die in the gutter while dabbing at a small facial sore. Yeah MITT . Fuck em up Dude!

The choice here is clear. They want someone with a grander vision for the take-under of the US. Mitt has that vision. Hell , he's no  stranger to debt and being overleveraged. Neither is Obama. But where Romney excels is how to borrow so much money, use it to pay off friends and himself and not get any of the Dog shit on him when the creditors come howling.

Maybe I haven't convinced you. You might be asking: Who else could top the performance of Holder, Obama, Geithner, Breuer and Bernanke?

 Romneyites .

That's right. They'll have that debt up to 35 trillion by this time next year and the Hamptons and Greenwich Connecticut will be the first cities with over 1000 - 500 Million dollar mansions ..a piece...with NO PROPERTY TAXES.  All with Handpicked elevators by Mittins and Annmny. By Gawd, we can't go wrong here. Wait till you get a winning trade at your Bloomberg and a message comes up with Jamie Dimon's Face saying "Not fair, confiscated, you won one in a row out of 200 tries douche-muffin. Bwahahahah .God I love me some of that Mitt in the morning"

Romney's great great grand dad, once removed, said he found the plates on September 22, 1823 at a hill near his home in Manchester, New York after an angel directed him to a buried stone box. Gramps said the angel at first prevented him from taking the plates, but instructed him to return to the same location in a year. In September, 1827, on his fourth annual attempt to (win the nomination) retrieve the plates, Gramps returned home with a heavy object wrapped in a flucke, which he then put in a box.

Two complete TOOLS of the elite's military industrial complex debate which one is the biggest supporter of the elite's Neocon war mongering military industrial complex war machine!

Two Israel first candidates debate which one will send the most money and weapons to Israel. Which one will slavishly subordinate American interests to Israeli military and foreign policy.

Two supporters of a police state and secret torture prison culture that subverts the US constitution debate which one is most pro police state.

Two candidates who support the US alliance with al-Qaeda terrorists fighting anti western governments in Syria and Iran debate which one most supports the Musilm extremist elements fighting in Syria of whom at least 3,000 known al-Qaeda terrorists are in the free Syrian Army.

Two candidates debate which one will keep in force longest the unconstitutional Patriot Act, which strips American citizens of every right they have under the US constitution.

This is the choice we Americans are lucky enough to have. Two candidates, both of which are Neocons, Israel firsters, tools of the military industrial complex, war mongers, drone addicted bombers, and out and out imperialists who want to use American young people to fuel the ranks of the war machine. Some choice!

Speaking of Banking Queen Barney

(Reuters) - Democratic Congressman Barney Frank defended the nation's largest bank on Monday, saying in a statement that the government was wrong to go after JPMorgan Chase & Co for the alleged misdeeds of Bear Stearns.

Frank, the co-author of the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial reform law, said federal and state officials should reconsider holding financial firms liable for the wrongdoing of institutions they absorbed at the government's urging.

The unusual statement comes after New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman sued JPMorgan, the nation's largest bank by assets on October 1 over mortgage-backed securities packaged and sold by Bear Stearns.

‘The Biggest Kiss’ Mitt Romney was right: Dodd-Frank is a gift to big banks

A few snips

If Romney touched a nerve, it was not because he was contrarian, but because he was correct. As many analysts and officials have explained, Dodd-Frank subsidizes large, influential Wall Street financial institutions, while imposing disproportionately heavy burdens on Main Street banks and the communities they serve. Even if we take President Obama, Senator Dodd, Representative Frank, and the rest of Dodd-Frank’s supporters at face value when they protest that they actually intended to rein in Wall Street banks, the laws they passed accomplish the opposite result. Intentional or not, a kiss is still a kiss.

In short, Dodd-Frank’s “liquidation” provisions will not actually end too big to fail—they will sustain it. Dodd-Frank has “ended” too big to fail only in the same sense that the 1928 Kellogg-Briand Pact “ended” war.

Nor can it truthfully be said that “taxpayers” will not fund the liquidation process. Under Dodd-Frank, the Treasury Department and FDIC can fund liquidations by imposing fees on financial institutions—fees that ultimately are passed through to the taxpayers and others who own the stock of those fee-paying companies or who are the companies’ customers.

With the federal debt now running way beyond any ability to tax us out of this, what is your proposal for keeping the US out of likely default?

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-08-08/blink-u-s-debt-just-grew-by-11-trillion.html

Dangerous Growth

The U.S. fiscal gap, calculated (by us) using theCongressional Budget Office’s realistic long-term budget forecast -- the Alternative Fiscal Scenario -- is now $222 trillion. Last year, it was $211 trillion. The $11 trillion difference -- this year’s true federal deficit -- is 10 times larger than the official deficit and roughly as large as the entire stock of official debt in public hands.
