Apple Introduces A Slightly Bigger Samsung S III (And Faster, "Excel-Optimized" New New iPad 4)

Tyler Durden's picture

Below is a picture of the product that Steve Jobs never wanted launched, and which Apple has been forced to release due to competitors which are suddenly beating it in its own game. And the price: $329. The Nexus starting price is $199 which is also Kindle Fire territory. Anyway, the 8 inch iPad is here (which upon measurement actually turns out to be 5"... particularly the white version). So when is the iPad 36C coming? Finally: will there be an iDiscount for those with over $100,000 in student debt?

Oh, and Apple also launched a New iPad. Or wait, is that iPad 4? Confusing. Whatever it is it has a faster CPU for all those excel spreadsheets you will be doing on it all day long.

One word summary: cannibalization... and maybe another: GoogleMaps?

AAPL Stock -2.5% - below Friday's closing VWAP...

Did not realize Apple made chips after moving to Intel. Wonder if Apple is going to dump WinTel?

I have an iphone and so does my wife and daughter. I was an early adopter and I really like the phone, having said that there really hasn't been any reason to upgrade since there is very little to difference between the 4s and the 5. To be honest at this point the only thing that ties me to Apple is all the aps we currently have. If it weren't for them I would probably look at other options.

In addition to the expensive iPad mini, it appears they're practically re-releasing the same product with a new name (iPad 4). I realize the crazy buyers of this shit don't think critically, but it looks VERY lame and/or desperate to do that. Is there ANY fucking point at which buyers of this stuff say "enough already".

Samsung makes everything on the inside of the iEverything that Apple sells. Foxconn merely assembles it, but the rest is all made by Samsung.

I find it disconcerting that someone going by the screenname of Bastiat would not be aware of this, or understand it's implications. I also find it amusing that I can now poke fun at you every post without feeling rude or that I'm alienating a colleage. For if you are a colleage of mine, then it's better to be surrounded by enemies.

The only thing that differentiates Apple  (in this arena, at this time) is the software. I don't care for it (too restrictive), but it is pretty reliable, and it works for non-geeks.

Its sad. I have a Macbook pro and a mac pro pc. I look at these two modern marvels of engineering pride and see Steve Jobs and all the hard work that went into making them. Innovation has now left the building. I hope Steve is knocking them dead where ever he is.

Despite being a mac user for only the past 3 years, I've long being an admirer of Apple's evolving hardware design. Now, as you said, the company is suffering from innovation deficit, while remaining complacent by riding market demands that are already being satiated by competitors.

I'm guessing the latest iPod nano is the point where reverse evolution is taking place.  I hope they find someone with vision, as well with reason, to create another iconic product, instead of simply managing their immense reserves through Braeburn.

(Hint: Roboid servants and/or flexible e-ink tablets.)

IPOD starting price now $300.00

I was going to pick one up for my son but that's too much IMO.

Likely they'll reduce price after Christmas but still I was shocked.

Nexus looks interesting.

I turned-off the data package on my Samsung phone because I thought it was getting ridiculus. Now it makes a great IPOD like device (and does spreadsheets).

Suspect many who gave-up on RIM jumped ship to APPL - epic.

I honestly feel like they just tacked that 29 bucks on last minute and now it's a Kindle Fire for me. Unless they release an Apple LCD this company is gonna stagnate from here on out. Entirely too much competition for them to stem the tide.

AAPL's stock price brings back familiar stories of that old tech bubble.I remember that bubble well.A very long out of the money PUT strategy may be my next move. This type of trade very rarely works and you have to be very careful to discern the right conditions, which may be coming soon.I would say that the price might even hit 100 bucks down the road one day.It needs some economic catalysts though,or some extra help from political morons in Europe,China and America.Still watching...

Apple's recognition that there is a market for 7-inch devices is a plus for  competitors. By recognizing the existance of competition, Apple gives them form. In effect, this violates one of the 48 laws of power. Not good for AAPL.

So... What is this other than a smaller IPad? Instead of ponying up $700, they'll put up $3xx for something smaller?

Feels like a more expensive iPad. It's like how a can of tuna gets smaller and less like actual tuna every year. Inflation hitting Apple hard. This feels like their margins are getting squeezed.

The battery (fingers crossed) rocks. I mean it's 2-3 times longer than my HTC.

My Samsung S3 is still discharging after 45 hours on battery, and still at 47% capacity. That's after spending about an hour on the phone, 30 minutes playing games, and listening to an entire episode of the Peter Schiff show on the speaker at full volume.

Of course, you have to learn how to make it battery-efficient (hint: disable useless apps, GPS, wi-fi, and mobile data when you're not using them, and always exit your apps properly by using the touch back button on the bottom right, not the main push-button on the bottom).

I recommend going to a custom jelly bean rom. I am running an insomnia version of jelly bean for att and I am getting awesome battery life. Runs for two days and thats with 4g and wifi enabled. To do this, I run a battery program that turns off wifi/data whenever you are off the phone. I also use a screen filter to dim the screen more than is usually possible. I by no means am I light user. I listen to a lot of podcasts and check stocks/zerohedge/email a fair amount during the day. I don't hate on apple, and actually recomend it to users who have no clue what their doing. I just can't stand people saying the iphone is the end all be all. If you can be a somewhat advanced user on the iphone, you should very much consider using the gs3.

Never read so many retarded Apple haters comments. Apple competes and this means they do not innovate anymore? What do people expect? No competition and all innovation? Competition is part of doing business morons. Without Apple there wouldn't even be competition in tablets. The tablet was DEAD before the ipad reinvented it remember? Try to be proud of the last company in the US that actually creates a quality procuct, instead of selling cheap plastic.
