don't they always underestimate? that's kind of their thing. Generally it leads to a healthy sized beat. Obviously not so for this quarter but they have a history of setting relatively low expectations. So one would be wise not to read too much into it.

@css: earnings were up 24% year-over-year. They had been expected to be up almost 28%. So, P/E will still come down, just not as much as many thought.
I think it will be a great buying opportunity at the 200 DMA. I expect the iPad mini to be huge in the consumer market, and especially with kids, and I expect the regular iPad to be huge in the corporate space. Operating cash flow of $50 billion and trading at about 10 times ex cash.

it's a normal occurrence with the release of material information in after hours or pre-market. Gives everyone a better chance at digesting the info. Unless you'd rather just have algos running the show in a less liquid environment. If they hypothetically released in the middle of a trading day the stock would not be halted it's only down a few %.
