People are going to be pissed off no matter who wins this election and that is a very important social dynamic I believe is vastly under appreciated by the majority of mainstream pundits and analysts out there. This is also very distinct from the environment that prevailed in 2008. Four years ago, the financial markets were crashing and the economic future of America was circling the toilet bowl, yet a majority of Americans embraced the potential of a young, inexperienced biracial politician from Illinois who was saying all of the right things. Despite the gigantic disappointment he has proven to be as President, there is no denying that he had all of the Democrats and most Independents under his spell on this day four years ago.
Fast forward to 2012 and the country isn’t “divided” as mainstream media talking heads like to say. The country is pissed off. Genuine and legitimate frustration permeates the land from sea to shining sea and rightly so. Ever since the banker coup of 2008, crony capitalism has been institutionalized as the only real way to make money. If you aren’t connected or “too big to fail,” sorry but America isn’t the place for you. What makes the economic nightmare so much worse is that it is being coupled with a complete and total decimation of civil liberties. One by one the Bill of Rights is being ignored and indeed trampled on systemically by the political and economic oligarchs emboldened by their successful takeover of the executive, legislative and for the most part judicial branches of government. Many Independents disagreed with Obama’s economic philosophy but gave him a pass because he promised to end the wars overseas and restore civil liberties. Instead, what we got was a President who signed the NDAA on New Year’s Eve 2011, which included section 1021, allowing for the indefinite detention of American citizens without trial until the “end of hostilities.” Well, because now know the Orwellian “war on terror” is never-ending, the indefinite detention is forever. The worst part is that Obama claims he didn’t want these powers yet when a group of high profile plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against section 1021 and won a ruling deeming it unconstitutional, what was the President’s response? He appealed it to death until he found a panel of judges to agree with him. Not only did he want this power, he seems to crave it. Another well deserved Noble Peace Prize.
The above is just one example of many. His kill list, which the Administration now refers to as the “disposition matrix,” grows by the day to include people with zero affiliation with Al-Qaeda, and Obama seems to relish in the absolute power of being judge, jury and executioner. Tragically, a President Romney will be no different. He is already on record supporting the NDAA, war without Congressional approval and we heard his complete and total support of Obama’s drone strategy during the third and final debate. Sure, people that care about civil liberties will vote for Romney saying that he will at least be better on economic policy, yet that is the exact same thing people did with Obama in reverse. They ended up being disappointed with him and Romney will disappoint as well. These guys are both big government, crony capitalist puppets and that’s the bottom line.
Another thing that must be considered is basic math about the U.S. political landscape. According to the latest Gallup poll, 32% of Americans identify themselves as Democrats, 28% as Republican and 38% as Independents. Now of course, amongst the Independents a majority lean more toward one party or the other, but this is much less the case today than it was in 2008 or in any election prior. Furthermore, the mere fact that so many choose to identify in this manner makes it clear that they are unhappy with either of these political gangs. These Independents want legitimate third, fourth or fifth party options but instead end up herded into the mainstream parties by a sophisticated corporate scam, part of which centers around the Commission on Presidential Debates, the gatekeeper of these circuses which ensures no alternative candidates can debate and excludes any difficult or uncomfortable questions.
There was a fantastic article written in the Huffington Post yesterday that examines the rampant frustration within the Republican Party titled: Frightened Republicans Try to Close Down Election Competitors, Such as Gary Johnson. I thought the most powerful quote was:
Both the Republican and the Democratic presidential candidates talk about liberty, freedom, fiscal responsibility, free enterprise, choice and the Constitution. But neither candidate believes in those principles. Elect either Barack Obama or Mitt Romney, and government will be bigger, spending will be higher, regulation will be more intrusive, the military will be fighting more wars, more service personnel will be dying, more money will be wasted abroad, civil liberties of more people will be violated, and more privacy of more citizens will be invaded. Overall, the free society will continue to retreat.
The above is invariably true and brings me to the key point of this article. Should Romney win, the 28% of Americans that identify as Republican will be thrilled, and the remaining 72% will be largely upset and on edge. Should Obama win, similarly, the 32% registered Democrat with be thrilled and the remaining 68% will be upset and on edge. Hence, the 70% referred to in the title of this article. This is a recipe ripe for social unrest and it will be coming to our shores as I outlined recently in The Global Spring.
Personally, I am done with the two part system and will be voting for Gary Johnson. I am not playing their games any longer and I will not fall for any more of their scams. In my brief voting years I have pulled the lever for both Republicans and Democrats, but I do not think I will vote for any one of them ever again. I implore everyone to do the same, no matter who you vote for, vote third party. The only wasted vote I see is one for either Mitt Romney or Barrack Obama.

We don't need home repair or to smoke more pot(though it might feel better the results won't be) I am praying that Romney doesn't believe the stuff he has shoveled the last couple of weeks...he is too smart.

He slashed the size of state government during his term and left the state with a $1 billion budget surplus. During his tenure, he vetoed more bills than the other 49 governors combined—750 in total, one third of which had been introduced by Republican legislators. Johnson also used his line-item-veto power thousands of times. Johnson was term-limited and could not run for a third consecutive term as governor in 2002. In the 2008 presidential election campaign, Johnson endorsed Ron Paul for the Republican nomination.

UT ex-Gov. Huntsman might have made a swell Pres. During the campaign for nomination he publicly said the actual net cost to taxpayers per gallon of gas (health, military excursion, etc.) is more like $13-15/gal.

It's so funny how I hear this shit about "both candidates are the same", from the mouths of these so called independents, libertarians, "woken", etc...; but you'll also always see them republican-leaning. Just check Mike's page where he posted this, on the comments. And I see the same here at ZH most of the time, to the point it kinda tires-pisses me off; always the same bullshit. I can't believe anybody could take Romney-Ryan seriously, they're a joke on all fronts. Can't say I like Obama or the dems, just look at the results: more foreign killings, more liberties destroyed at home, more bailout and ass licking from the moneyed interests, etc... They wont advertise their position in the ridiculous terms of the Romney-Ryan one, and might have more of a velvet hand than, lets say, Bush Jr. But in the end, they're just not beneficial for their own country or the world at large.
And Mike makes one mistake with this assumption: the 70% of political disillusioned ain't the dynamic of change.
Remember North Africa and what made them revolt. It wasn't political dissapointment. It was hunger. The price of bread had sky-rocketed due to bad harvests globally summed up with QE programs which made commodities boom.
If I have to bet what's the dynamic that might spark a revolution in America, it's most probably the price of gas above anything else.

Yet I ave seen it digressing in so many ways the past 3 or 4 decades and many would disagree as they don't know any better. We did with less as we did not have credit cards, did not have 300 channels including porn, had no cell phones, could not fathom what a term facebook would mean and so on.
we had friends, family stuck together, even ate dinner together on occasion. When one of us was in trouble it wouldn't be the government they called as we were there.
I realize not all people had these experiences, some had it better, many worse. I came from a rural, small town environment, where most knew each other. That life seems to be disappearing.
The women seem to be looking better now than they used to as they aged, but other than that and better reliability in automobiles.I don't see that many real benefits to today versus yesterday.
I really cant really justify a medical system as being superior for most ailments than the doctor of yore who came to the house with a black bag and he did not tie a person into prescriptions for life.
We were free. No homeowner's associations with their petty gestapo enforcement techniques and there were not enough police around to make life difficult for anyone and if a person was evil enough to be worth apprehending he or she would eventually get caught.
There were no reality shows. We made our own reality.

FWIW: I see that those who've been charged to stand guard over my generation have been severely undermined by the 'American Dream'. In pursuit of its security I have no doubt my parents' generation meant do do well by us. Looking at the Dream from a distance though its clearer what was overlooked. The man behind the curtain has always been there and has worked hard to keep his presence concealed.
What we (all generations present) need now is to reconcile the common denominator; the things we all agree are important.
Mitt Romney is an atrocious prospect for President and President Obama has absolutely proven once and for all just how captured the system is. All of us know these things are true and when we all come to the table without fear and prejudice, but with open minds and hearts we may finally regain our freedom.

I've been eligible to vote since Bush/Dukakas and I've never voted because I've always felt the choice was either Shit A or Shit B.
This year, even though Romney winning my State is already a foregone conclusion, I'll be voting Libertarian.
Do I like Gary Johnson? No. But he is the only candidate is who supports a meaningful autonomy as opposed to the dictatorship that we've been living under for my entire life.

Neither candidate can stop Bernanke and his printing press. Neither wants to either. They need $150 billion a month from that printing press to keep the government going.
$1.8 trillion a year added to the money supply to keep the government going, while GDP is shrinking, not counting a trillion or so for Wall Street.
That's just not sustainable. We may put up with it here in America, but the rest of the world won't. Sooner or later they'll get tired of watching their USD reserves lose value, and dump the dollar en masse.
If someone else comes up with a stable gold-backed currency (and can defend it militarily) it'll hasten the day the dollar dies.
When it happens it's game over for America, no more oil imports, no more imports from China, no more imports from anyone, prices here will skyrocket, people won't be able to make ends meet anymore, supply chains break down, and it's war in the streets, civil anarchy.
It could happen during the next presidential term.
I don't think their will be anarchy. There may be some riots and what not, but history shows that people will suffer much before something like a revolution or civil war occurs, and America is no different and the living standards are still way to good for that to occur.
Watch Spain or Greece or Portugal or Itally to see how long it takes before their populations finally, if ever revolt in masse. Spain has 25% unemployment and it still hasn't cracked yet.
Ah yes, but there is a vastly different social dynamic in Spain, Greece, etc. than there is in America.

They probably believe in the Constitution. The constitution endorses the ownership of people providing labour or service, 'american' PCness of those days to tell slaves.
Being an 'american' has always been about masquerading coercion as freedom.
Both Obama and Romney are your typical 'american'.
Why nothing is going to happen? Because due to incoming depletion of resources and the incapacity of 'americans' to back up their claim they were able to overcome the environment, the 'american' middle class is now an overpopulated class. Way too many 'americans', not enough Indians.

And it happens that all those who keep voting are in the same situation: they are fighting to remain on the good side of 'americanism'. They share more in common than they share with those 'americans' who fell or are falling on the wrong side of 'americanism'
The 50 (32+28) who know that if they gain control over the State apparatus, they will gain something, have little in common with the others they are going to pushed under the train to sustain their 'american' way of life.
And being on the losing side of the election will not close the gap between those who are the wrong side and those who are fighting to get the better of being on the right side.

There is only one person in this world that represents your beliefs and opinions, and that's you.
You cannot vote someone into power to represent you. Although, you might be hypnotized by propaganda into believing so.
The only vote that counts is when you spend your money or trade for something in barter. The problem comes in when there is a Central Bank that prints up money out of thin air, and then use that "free money" in order to outvote the vote you made in the market with your money. We have the best Government that money and propaganda can buy, and the Central Bank has made your vote meaningless.
The people, the masses, used to have the power because they had the money in their hands, and politicians and the government used to have to actually work(beg?) on getting the people to give them some of it for government programs. Now the Government has captured control of money itself and doesn't need to ask our permission for much of anything.
When they took us off the Gold Standard they took away our money... in order to make it theirs.

Congress's approval rating is 11%. Will the Nov. 6 elections make any difference? Of course, doesn't voting always make a difference? </sarc> Here's how I predict the difference after the elections will "break down"...

Government itself isn't specifically the problem. What becoming part of the government does to normal, average unethical people is the problem.
