China Warns It Will Respond "Forcefully" To Japanese Violation Of Its "Territorial Sovereignty"

Tyler Durden's picture

While the topic of the Japanese purchase of the contested [Senkaku|Diaoyu] Islands may have receded from the front pages of global media for lack of any major recent developments, the issue is still quite ripe in the minds of over 1 billion Chinese (and several hundred million Japanese, not to mention the executives of Japanese car and electronics makers who have seen a cliff-like collapse in purchases of their products by Chinese consumers in the past month). However, just because it is out of sight, does not mean it is out of mind, the front page of the official Chinese Daily is out with a big piece titled "China says no concession on territorial sovereignty" in which it makes it abundantly clear that Japan will have no choice but to back down in what China continues to consider an "aggressive" invasion of its territorial sovereignty. And to avoid any confision. Xinhua clarifies that if "anyone wants to challenge China's bottom line on the issue of sovereignty, China will have no alternative but to respond forcefully so as to remove disturbance and obstacles and move steadily on the path of peaceful development."

So just like Europe, where nothing has been resolved, but merely swept under the ECB's ever bigger rug, and is merely waiting to be unleashed in the next risk-flaring episode, so the territorial dispute in Asia will escalate until either Japan backs down, or China finally makes good on its threat. One can only hope the two don't coincide as the system, already stressed out to the max, will see another major exogenous shock, only this time with the Fed already 'all in', there is nothing incremental that Bernanke's policy will be able to do to avoid the subsequent shock as the global financial system takes another major step down, precisely as David Einhorn warned.

From the front page of China Daily:

China on Friday said it will take forceful measures in response to any moves that challenge the country's bottom line on sovereignty.

"We want to live in friendship with all countries including Japan, but we have to uphold our principles and bottom line," Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun told reporters Friday night.

Zhang said China pursues a policy of friendship and partnership with its neighboring countries and stays committed to the path of peaceful development.

"However, should anyone want to challenge China's bottom line on the issue of sovereignty, China will have no alternative but to respond forcefully so as to remove disturbance and obstacles and move steadily on the path of peaceful development," he said.

Zhang said Japanese government's "purchase" of the Diaoyu Islands, which was announced on September 10, constituted a grave violation of China's territorial sovereignty.

The gauntlet has been thrown. Waiting to see how the U.S. and Japan respond. Our hegemonic might in that area of the world is being challenged by China. This isn't like beating the crap out of a third world nation like Iraq. Watching history unfold is way more interesting then watching the Kardashians.

Japan could go nuclear in 10 days.  Is that what China wants?  China is over-rated.  Historically they ALWAYS screw-up on the verge of greatness.  The Communist Dynasty will likely fare no differently.

And all of this might be the spark to get Japan back into motion.  They have been through so much that they have been shell-shocked by Fukushima and so much else.  A nationalistic jolt could bring them back.  Japan would matter again.

Careful, China!  TOUCH Japan, get your fingers burnt!

Yes. JAPAN will get their nukes in 10 DAYS, so does North Korea, Iran, Sudan, Syria....every country whom the West hates them for having an anuclear capability (Sorry for the fact that the world is flat today) . I beg Japanese does need the nuclear capability back so that they can also make sure the US, who has ever bombed the hell of them in Hiroshima and Nagasaki would get their revenge back. It's not like Japanese has never done any extreme tactics like Pearl Harbor before. It's so funny average Americans would just believe Japanese would forgive them for whatever reason while at the same time, their defender the US army are raping little girls in Okinawa. Who's the real whore of this region geopolitically? You go figure.

Oh, by the way, Japan is an island state. It has no buffer zone or extra land for their population to migrate to if they have been carpet-bombed by nucleal bombs and radioactive climate, Plus they have quite a high density of nuclear plants located every corner of the country (Fukushimas) too. And almost half of its total population are packed in Tokyo alone. Good luck with playing nuclear fireworks with China and Russia.

Or by the way, if Japan does believe they should have the nuclear weapon in the region as the former defeated axises of evil that has caused WW2. Then the United Nations should declare all nations are elightable to have nuclear weapons. Your break the chain, you swallow the consequence.

At the end of the day, If US does want to sacrifice its eternal destiny by playing war games at the tipping point of over throwing the entire world order after WW2, then let make it happen then. I do believe China does want to take over the Asia, Russia does want to re-become the USSR, Germany does want to declare the unification of EU, Muslim World does want to have the final holy war against the Western world, and even many of the extremist lonewolves would like to gain a pie out of this total chaos and end game.

Careful US, TOUCH the Pandora's Box, get your life finished

Read up someday about the Jap Army atrocities at Nanking and a thousand other places in China. Learn someday about the IJA Unit 731: the guys who did medical tests on captured Chinese, including vivisections with no anesthesia - 'cause they were *curious*, see. Find out sometime about the biological & germ warfare they conducted on China - up to and including the bredding and release of plague-bearing rats into Chinese cities, resulting in an estimated 50K dead. And then tell us about Japanese "honor" and how "humane" they were.

Don't get me wrong: the Chinese are sorry little scumbuckets who'll steal anything that ain't nailed down (and if they can pry it loose, it ain't nailed down). But the Japs are much _much_ worse. Ask any asian.

Many forget the Japan military occupied Korea for over 35 years (1910-1945). Japan successfully invaded Korea in 1906 and annexed (enslaved) Korea in 1910. This enslavement was only ended by USA dropping the atomic bomb on Japan and ending WWII.

The Korean government was in exile hiding out in Shanghai until Japanese occupation of Korea was ended.

Or by the way, if Japan does believe they should have the nuclear weapon in the region as the former defeated axises of evil that has caused WW2.

Where to begin?

They have many water cooled reactors that create fissionable  byproducts.

Any nation with similar reactors has a stealth nuclear program.

In order to be in compliance with the treaty on non-proliferation one merely has to separate cores from the electronics.

There is nothing illegal about storing Uranium 'waste' from a reactor in a shape that can detonate, or having electronics and missiles - Japan has all three.

Given 10 days to assemble the warheads into one piece, Japan could have nukes in no time.

Of course all of Asia, and the Chinese in particular, will lose their minds. I imagine that everyone will get behind China and force Japan to relent after what happened 1930-1945.

I'll have to say Japan is good at everything, especially with their Nuclear Plants which have extra functions of turning into a mega dirty bomb that can wipe off the entire habitable land throughout the entire northeast of Japan and literally it has tainted the Pacific Ocean with glowing stuff. Good Job

You really believe Chernobyl is worse than Fukushima? Are you sure you have gotten the real news from the real world rather than from the propaganda of IAEA (A Jap plays as the head of the organization) and Japanese government. Oh right, because Chernobyl is a communist nuclear accident, so it's far worse than an accident blowed up by a Democratic Japan. I beg those Japanese people would be so happy to invite you to join them in Fukushima Town with glowing rice and sushi. Too bad, the residents of Chernobyl have left their town behind for good while Fukushima people would have to stay on with the lies of their government for years to come.

Oh, Forgot to mention, where are the Japanese robots for saving their asses on this? Oh sorry, it seems like they are all made to dance and gangnam style for kids at the end of day, Thanks for the Good laugh

I think that the collision of high speed trains in China and the fact that the tracks were built so poorly that the maximum speed had to be reduced (already) by 30 mph (over 10%) makes me wonder if their if in a few years the Chinese may have a medium (or low speed) rail system. (Not to mention that many of the senior managers were fired over corruption and safety problems).

China has already lost credibility by pushing it this far. Whatever political gain they hoped for is wiped out by the fact that Japan has largely ignored the bluster and stood firm, mocking China top to bottom.

China buys a refurbished aircraft carrier that they can't operate and have no support for and thinks they're in the game. Their weapons and equipment are made in China, a guarantee of victory for anyone fighting them.

As anyone who has lived in China for more than one month can tell you, they have the most stunning women on Earth. The Chinese and Yanks are just as nasty and as corrupt as each other but at least the Chinese women look like women. I'm backing China.

Internal Chinese politics are the main driver for this island bravado. China came out of the Warring States and internal political egotism will eventually devolve it back into the same. Chonqing is just the start. The various regional dialects and minorities ensure China is unified in name only, as the CCPs iron grip softens in time expect more regional WarLords to emerge. It is their history.

China stops buying Japanese goods including suspends export of rare earth metals until reality sets in and the Japanese behave. Alternately the Chinese "temporarily nationalize" all Japanese business in China until the dispute is finalized.

Bottom line Japan is not only outnumbered 11 to 1, its demographicals are f*cked just a bunch of old people while China has an oversupply of young single patriotic guys.

Oh wait up, it could all just be pre transfer of power rhetoric.

As bad as it sounds, and as bad as it would be for Japan, probably the best thing for the future of the world would be for China to "temporarily nationalize" Japanese businesses within China.

Why so?  Because this would provide a very real, very substantial reason for everyone to reverse globalization.  People everywhere would seriously consider bringing their productive assets home, and working at home.  Some would do so.  Hopefully many.

While international trade is perfectly fine, and there are some reasons it is almost unavoidable (unequal availability of resources across planet earth), the most stable world is one in which every unit is as close to possible to self-sufficient.  Then people can "mind their own business" and focus their attention on being productive, not manipulative.

China also very well understands that to take attention away from domestic issues, one needs to creat a foreign threat or foreign dispute. And nothing works better to mobilize uneducated masses than nationalism.
