The Life (So Far) Of Hurricane Sandy

Tyler Durden's picture

She's wet, windy, and bringing a world of hate to the Atlantic Seaboard - but where did she come from? NOAA offers the complete animated real-life of Hurricane Sandy...

Meanwhile in Bermuda - waves are reaching 37 feet!!!

and in case you were wondering just how big Sandy is relative to Irene:

Can't said i'd be hanging out on Long Island about now...but i sure wouldn't mind ordering "hurricanes all around" and gettin' down the Cloud Club...pick up a honey and "ride out the storm" http://www.google.com/imgres?start=129&hl=en&sa=X&qscrl=1&rlz=1T4TSNO_en...
of course this might the what ends up happening:

Yes you are wrong. Storms blow up from low pressure systems in the caribbean all the time. Usually they dont track due north though. They usually go west into Belize and Mexico.

What I'm wondering is why a video of Katy Perry with fire shooting out of her tits is one of the top linked vids for NOAA sat animation ??? WTF ?

I think those people pointing the finger at and blaming the wrong men, the general public, for Human Induced Climate Change, should be pointing the finger at themselves, and we should be pointing our fingers at them,  for the Geo Engineering experiments they have been conducting on us.

Not believing companys and governments are modifying the weather is like not believing in electricty or airplanes.

Aerosol Geoengineering and Hurricane Modification Program Run by Homeland Security

The 2010 American Meteorological Society (AMS) meeting presented details of aerosol geoengineering program run by the Department of Homeland Security.  The program included discussion of how aerosols were effective at decreasing and increasing the intensity of Hurricane Katrina.

The current aerosol geoengineering of Hurricane Sandy is a continuation of the Hurricane Aerosol and Microphysics Program (HAMP).

I would say it is a very fair point. Most systems in the Caribbean originated off of Africa, they didn't form in the Caribbean, nor usually in South America.

This track is the complete reverse to normal i.e it looks like it comes out of Venezuela and heads towards Africa, and did not form off the African coast before tracking over the Atlantic to the Caribbean as per normal...

Crikey. Maybe the Chavster has something better than HAARP/HAMP to play with !!

I will concur,  W-T-F !!

The government is actively plotting against us and engineering world events and creating weather systems to some strange end of control.

Appreciate the concern Doc. Long Island has barrier islands (Fire Island, Long beach etc.) that usually get the shit kicked out of them and eroded bigtime in these storms. Then you hit the south shore of LI. I am about 5 miles inland once you hit long Island. It is not a long way at all and it is not much above sea level. The wind does not worry me at all. It's the sea level. It gets you from above on a high tide (but it has never made it as far inland as I am) however the water table can rise from below and your basement can be a swimming pool in an instant. There is nothing you can do about that though. They have evacuated everyone from about two miles south of me towards the water although I know most of my friends (moved their wives/kids etc.) and then stayed put so they can drink a few beers and watch the game tonight.

Personally I think this storm is a media frenzy and not much more. But we will see. I will let you know. I doubt the weather will send me scrambling. But when the dollar tanks I will be updating from my mobile device as I head for farmland right quick. Then I would appreciate your concern much more....

Walking Dead was good tonight!  Where are your boots on the ground? NYC?  Seems everything will shut down a day before storm hits, I suppose so people can prepare. It is the power loss that most will feel. I do not like going without power. If I lived in a storm prone area, I would have put in a generator in a seperate little shed when I built my new home. As it is, being in the way upper midewest, our only fear is a blizzard, and they rarely knock out power. Up here the power lines are very heavily built, it take one major piece of work to take them down. Utilites are quite good in that respect. They also work hard to keep tree limbs trimmed away from lines before , not wait till wind blows them into lines.

Here it is Monday morning, nearly 12 hours after the subways were closed down. And not a leaf is stirring.

After the Mainstream Media cranked up the volume to fofty-eleven, the panicked sheeple huddled in their pens, bleating pitiably and pissing themselves.

This, claimed the authoritative MSM, is the Mother Of All Maelstroms -- the sort of cosmic catastophe that wiped the dinosaurs off the earth, leveled ancient forests, and set back human development by millions of years.

But of course, it isn't. Like a certain notorious event a few years ago, it's an exercise in sheeple control. And it's goin' GREAT!

Have you hugged your government today?

It's a larger storm that Irene in size, but less tightly wound at the center, with lower top wind speeds (75 mph/120 kph) -- conservation of angular momentum, people!

Somehow, this is Bernanke's fault :)

http://www.intellicast.com/Storm/Hurricane/Active.aspx?storm=1&type=advi...

Sandy has also partly merged with a strong cold front moving in from the west, another "Perfect Storm" scenario, except it won't happen off the Mass coast, but somewhere along the Delaware River.

Has anyone seen, anywhere, any explanation why this storm is going to cut hard left into the east coast when the jet stream doesnt do that? Truly interested in the science.

Sun, 10/28/2012 - 22:33 | 2926648 bunnyswanson

Reason being there is a cold front moving down from the northwest, I believe.  It will clash with hurricane.  Full moon will have additional impact on tides.

A rare high pressure system off of southern Greenland will steer it inland, or rather PUSH it inland. The normal low pressure there would have pulled it out to sea. The storm is unusual because of this rare high pressure system. ANd because of the physical size of it, not it's wind or rain intensity. Also it will be held up by inland weather systems and that could make it move slow, more time for wind and rain to damage things.

My personal guess is this is over hyped by 50%. Big storm, but winds are not that strong nor is it set for record rainfall. NYC and storm surge are the biggest damage potential.

The cold front coming from the west. Jet stream is whipping around Georgia and coming right back up thru West Virginia-ish. The jet stream is sucking it back in and up with it. Along with the system around. Greenland-ish.
